Learning Support

The Learning Support department is situated in the heart of the main teaching building reflecting its importance at Eagle House. The department consists of experienced classroom teachers and four specialist teachers all of whom trained at the renowned Helen Arkell Dyslexia Centre in Farnham.

The department works closely with staff and parents to ensure that a child’s needs are understood and met within the classroom.

Quality first teaching in the classroom is often all that is needed to support a child, however, if it is felt that more tailored intervention is required then the Head of Learning Support will look in more detail at the child. This may include carrying out observations and an assessment to ascertain what intervention might be suitable. In some cases, seeking advice from an outside specialist such as an Educational Psychologist may be suggested.

The Learning Support department offers a range of interventions across the school including:

  • Providing adaptations, equipment and strategies to enhance learning within the classroom
  • Individual and group sessions to support phonics, literacy and maths (Early Years – Year 2)
  • A popular ‘Nessy’ club for spelling and touch-typing practice
  • Support sessions for study or social skills
  • Individual or group lessons for children needing support with maths
  • Individual support lessons for children with English as an Additional Language
  • Individual support lessons for children with dyslexia or general literacy difficulties
  • Visiting specialists for Speech and Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy
  • The school also has ELSA trained teachers, a School Counsellor and Play Therapist

Every child has individual needs and although we can offer a level of support we require parents to give us full details of any additional needs so that we can judge whether we are the right school for your child.  A provisional place will be offered subject to a school reference and additional information provided by parents.
