Peter Worley CEO and co-founder of educational charity The Philosophy Foundation, runs regular philosophy sessions at Eagle House with Years 2-8.
Philosophy teaches critical thinking and the systematic and rational approach to problem solving. By teaching philosophy through Enquiry children will develop autonomous, creative thinking skills as well as rational reasoning skills, and acquire important communication skills. With these skills children will have a better chance of resolving problems and making the right decisions for themselves as individuals, as they develop through childhood into adults.
Peter’s method of Philosophical Enquiry has been developed in schools over the last 10 years, and he is now recognised as a leader in the field. It has been shown to have an impact on literacy, numeracy and science education, as well as enhancing social and affective skills in children.
There are ten workshop sessions throughout the academic year. Four are in the Michaelmas term and three each in the Lent and Summer terms.
