English – what a fantastic subject! It is a real privilege to share with our pupils the beauty of the language in all its forms. One moment we revel in the genius of Shakespeare, the next tackle the importance of direct speech and then swoop into the delights of creating our very own world through prose or poetry.

At Eagle House the aim of the English Department is to give every boy and girl full exposure to everything the language has to offer. English is a subject with a massive scope of materials and possible approaches but ultimately the aim is simple – to teach our children to read and write to a high standard, to communicate successfully, and to appreciate and enjoy the richness, diversity and beauty of the language.
