Reception to Year 6
At Eagle House our key resource for the Pre-Prep and Main School up to Year 6 is The Nelson English Programme.
In order to see what we teach please look at the relevant link below. Like any good school we use plenty of other resources but this represents the programmes of study and indicates what we are teaching in any one term.
Look at the grid and choose the term and year group and then you will be able to see in detail the topics taught and how they relate to the National Literacy Strategy.
Nelson English
Year 7 & 8
These two top years follow the KS3 course Framework English published by Nelson Thornes. This is a resource split into two – Fiction and Non-Fiction. It fulfils all the objectives for NLS at Years 7 & 8. Below are the medium term plans for the academic year.
Year plans for Year 7 and Year 8 can be downloaded directly by clicking on the appropriate year group.
Events
Throughout the year we have various visits and functions in the department.
In (2008 - 2009) we held a Poetry Evening (Words in Motion), where 30 children performed a variety of poetry. We visited the theatre a number of times to see War Horse, The Woman in Black and Much Ado About Nothing. A Reading Forum was held for Parents to discuss the importance and value of Children's fiction.
In our last academic year (2009 - 2010) we held our poetry performance show called Words in Motion, the annual Poetry Speaking Competition and several theatre trips to see War Horse by Michael Morpurgo at the New London Theatre, Arabian Nights at the RSC Stratford, and Comedy of Errors at the Open Air Theatre Regent's Park. 2010 saw the first Eagle House Children's Literature Festival . This was a week of events all dedicated to reading with Britain's top authors taking part. Go to Festival to find out more and read the Festival Blog.
