Lent Term 2011
Week 11:
Each term the domestic staff run a dorm competition based on how clean and tidy the children leave their dorms and areas before they go to school each day. The children are scored individually for the prizes of 'best girl' and 'best boy' but they are also competing for the dorm prize. Each week Lisa and her team award the dorms with Gold, Silver, Bronze, or the dreaded 'Red' stars as a way to communicate how well the dorm is doing. Those with red stars are strongy encouraged to sort out the situation, but in addition are given the wonderful honour of clearing the dining hall each night after supper!!
Girls Dorm Winner: Kaspar
Boys Dorm Winner: Hoot
Best GirlOverall: Lucky Zhang
Best BoyOverall : Hal Quinn
The boarding staff also run the weekly plus system to reward good behaviour with tuck on privilege night. Here is our top plus earners this term:
Will Morrison
Congratulations to you all!
End of Lent Term Summary:
As always, the Boarding House has been a hive of activity over the past 11 weeks and there certainly has never been a dull moment! This term we have had 39 boys and 31 girls boarding every week on either a full or part time basis which in itself reflects that Boarding is thriving at Eagle House.
Looking back to the start of term, it is always a very enjoyable time to be a House Parent. The children who were new to the school or new to boarding only a term previously, now enter the House with confidence, and more importantly, with smiles on their faces, eager to start the term ahead. They greet their dorm mates and other boarders warmly and almost immediately the House takes off from where we left it at Christmas. The Boarding Staff also see the rewards for all their hard work from the Michaelmas term, as at this point in the year, the children are so familiar with the routines and the structure of the week that the House really does 'run itself'. Everyone assumes their usual roles and shows initiative for what needs to be done and we can all just enjoy time together as part of our ever-growing community! It is also during the Lent term that you really see the boarders bond as a unit - boys and girls, seniors and juniors - they all look out for each other and want to help each other. We constantly strive to make the House as homely as possible for all the children who stay here, and to see the way in which all our boarders conduct themselves around the House and with each other proves that it is very much a ‘home away from home’ for them.
Evening activities this term have been suitably varied and interesting for the children. Swimming and dodgeball, basketball and design, art room and ICT, Manhunt and French, Skiing and ice skating, Coral Reef and movie nights, Just Dance competitions and beauty nights, board games and sewing – so I certainly think we’ve proved that boarding does offer something for everyone. As always, my thanks must go to Lynne Palmer, Nick Jenkins, Paul Gillam, Dylan Ross, Natalie Davison, Richard Barron, Matthew Edwards, Sarah Barnard, James Guest, Duncan Laurie-Pile, Maxine Brewster, Nicole Fetchet and Nick Brimacombe for providing these activity choices night after night – not always easy after a full day at school.
Once the evening activity session has ended, each year group has some quiet time. As the children progress though the school they learn to use this time more and more effectively to complete any learning prep or simply to read a good book. The Year 6s this term have proven themselves to be more mature and organised than ever and have really made themselves stand out, for all the right reasons! Every night when I walk passed the dorm, heads are either buried into books of facts, a favourite novel or children are testing each other on their French vocab. A wonderful attitude to be exhibited by some of our youngest children. The Year 8s also worked well in the run-up to their CE trial examinations with several children choosing to return to the House a little earlier from activities to complete more study before bed.
After half term, the Boarding House was certainly gripped by Peter Pan fever. With 32 boarders participating in the show life was busy co-ordinating rehearsals, late suppers and keeping up to date with school work and it is testament to those children that they managed their time so well. The remaining boarders watched proudly at the Tuesday night performance and a few of the very youngest children were almost star-struck as they returned to the House later that evening and almost mobbed the stars of the show by giving them the most enormous hugs! Huge congratulations to all those who worked so hard to put on such an amazing show – you were all fantastic.
With fewer boarders staying in for the weekends this term, the Sunday trips were tailored to the choices of those who remained in school. Travelling to Wimbledon to see ‘The Hoff’ in Panto, a cultural trip to Oxford, a day out in Windsor with lunch in Café Rouge, golf, cooking and crafts at school, a walk in Windsor Great Park and lunch at Pizza Express and mountain biking at the Look Out. A big thank you to James and Dee Guest, Peter Boyle, Anne-Sophie Le-Mat, John Skepper, Judy Phillips and Alun Grafton for organising these fantastic activities for our full boarders to ensure their time in school is both happy and rewarding.
As the Lent term draws to an end all the Boarding Staff are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Summer term as it marks a great change in the boarding way of life. The lighter and drier (!) evenings mean that the children have so much more freedom and can make great use of our wonderful grounds. BBQs on privilege night, games of rounders on Main, tennis matches against staff and I’m sure there will be a few games of football happening too. I can picture the scene now and I’m already looking forward to it.
Next term we also welcome back Hannah Bailey as Assistant House Parent as she returns to boarding duties, but that does mean we also say goodbye to Dee Guest. Dee has been a truly fantastic addition to the boarding staff in her role as assistant House Parent and I know many of the children and staff will miss her. I want to take this opportunity to thank Dee for all her hard work and for all those late nights and I hope that now she has got to know us all so well she will not become a stranger to the Boarding House.
Have a wonderful Easter holiday as a family. Relax, have fun and we look forward to welcoming you all back into the House next term.
Week 9 & 10:
House Parents' Star of the Week: Aman Ale
Matrons' Boarder of the Week:Seb Baldwin
The House has certainly been gripped by Peter Pan fever over the past couple of weeks. With children rehearsing almost every night there have been many tired faces. As 31 of our boarders are performing in the show this year our House has seemed rather decimated at times! That said, during the quieter activity sessions those who have remained in the House have had a lot more attention and the opportunity to choose activities which they really want to do. Board games and puzzles have been far more popular than usual (and no, don't ask Mr J to play articulate!) and also many of the younger children have enjoyed not having to share the computer time with the seniors. Sessions in the pool with only 10 or so children as opposed to the normal 20-30 has resulted in diving competitions and swimming races being organised . Imogen even enjoyed a late night dip this week and was happily carried around the pool by a number of the boarders!
For the 32 boarders participating in the show life was busy co-ordinating rehearsals, late suppers and keeping up to date with school work and it is testament to those children that they managed their time so well. The remaining boarders watched proudly at the Tuesday night performance and a few of the very youngest children were almost star-struck
as they returned to the House later that evening and almost mobbed the stars of the show by giving them the most enormous hugs! Huge congratulations to all those who worked so hard to put on such an amazing show – you were all fantastic. Will I miss cleaning the all that make-up off the faces of 10 'Red Indians' at 11.30pm at night? Certainly not, and getting you all out of bed in the morning was not the easiest of tasks, but it was all certainly worth it and we look foward to seeing what's in store next year.
I can't believe that already next week sees the end of the Lent term. As always we plan to end on a high with the final skiing session on Tuesday, our end of term trip Ice Skating on Wednesday and then a compulsory Easter Egg hunt on Thursday - after the dreaded packing of course!
Week 8:
House Parents' Star of the Week: Charlie Waters
Matrons' Boarder of the Week:Lewis Riddell
Wow - the lives of 7-12 year olds are certainly busy! With the school production of Peter Pan only 2 weeks away, every second counts for those busy at rehearsals.
Monday night was not our usual swim and dodgeball session this week due to the last parents evening of the term being held in the arts hall. As a result, the week started on a slightly quieter note with a movie night for all. It did mean the children had two fewer days to earn their tuck this week, but pleasingly enough the vast majority had kept their required six pluses and could enjoy a tasty treat.
On Tuesday night the madness really began as we had children at play rehearsals, skiing lessons, in the common room or making pancakes to celebrate shrove Tuesday. There is no doubt that everyone had a great evening, but I am sure that Mrs Guest needed to lie down in a darkened room once everyone was safely tucked up in bed!

On Wednesday a massive 26 members of our boarding community were busy at rehearsals so for those remaining in the House they had the pick of several different activities. 10 or so children headed to the pool with Mrs Brice and Mr Brimacombe, another group chilled in the Common Room with Mrs Margetts and Miss Fetchet and Mr Barron looked after those wanting to watch some TV in the Old Library.
Thursday night saw not one, but two birthday tables. The kitchen staff had made Daisy a wonderful pink cake to celebrate her 12th birthday, and not to feel left out, Mrs Guest was also given a lovely chocolately cake to celebrate her ???th birthday! The boarders gave their usual 'tuneful' rendition of Happy Birthday before tucking in. As it was Thursday, it was of course Manhunt night and despite being rediculously busy with the school production, Mr Edwards did not disappoint. Thank you!
Onto Friday and exeat for all. I trust you had a fun and restful weekend and are looking forward to the madness continuing for the remaining three weeks!
Week 7:
House Parents' Star of the Week:
Matrons' Boarder of the Week:
Firstly, many apologies for the delay in updating this blog. I must stress that it is a reflection on how busy your children's lives are here at Eagle House and, as always at this point in the Lent term, there is never a dull moment! With Peter Pan rehearsals in full swing, skiing lessons commencing, Bingo nights, movie nights and CE trial examinations to prepare for, just keeping track of where everyone is and what they are doing has become my full time job! Nevertheless, after only 1 week back after half term, it is very clear that the Eagle House boarders are living life to the full.
The Year 8 boarders have shown a very mature and conscientious attitude through their exam preparations this week. Many have chosen to participate in at least some form of activity in the evenings before settling down to a little final revision before bed. Following advice, they have ensured that getting to sleep on time has been a priority for them and I hope they feel they have done themselves justice when their results are returned.
For the rest of the Boarding House there has been plenty of interesting activities going on. On Monday night there was the usual choice of swimming or dodgeball - Mr Jenkins has even purchased his own kit for the latter, so I think play is starting to get serious! On Tuesday evenings, Mr Gillam has provided the boarders with a fantastic opportunity to go skiing at the John Nike centre in Bracknell. For some they are having lessons in preparation for the school ski trip, whereas for others who are more experienced skiers it is just a chance for something different and a bit of fun on the slopes. This is a wonderful opportunity for a few weeks and I am glad to see so many people have taken advantage of it. Also 28 of our boarders have been busy rehearsing for Peter Pan on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings which has meant that it has been a little quieter around the House at times (well at least until the hordes return). Having only 24 boarders in the House on Tuesday night we decided to stick to the Common Room area and have some fun chilling with board games and a bit of Just Dance on the Wii. After a small amount of bribery Lewis did eventually join in and very impressive he was to - good sport Lewis!
Wednesday night was movie night and there were two cracking films this week - The Social Network and Up. Movie Nights are replaced with a BBQ and an extended free play evening in the summer term as we move all our activities onto Main Field, so the children are keen to get all their favourite films in during the remainder of the term.
After having a few parents evenings on Thursdays, it was nice to get back to our usual routine this week and in true form, Mr Edwards led a fabulous game of Manhunt. There is no doubt that this is a highlight of the week for many of our boarders and the fact we have such demand for flexi boarding on Thursday nights proves this only further.
Despite an already action packed week, there were further treats in store on Friday night as yet more special events were being held at Eagle House. 22 boarders took the option of attending the EHA family Bingo Night and according to the children, and Mr Guest who kindly took them, they had a brilliant time. However, we all do know very well why coke and sweets are not regularly available in the Boarding House as putting that many children to bed who are rather sugar fueled was no mean feat! For those wanting a more sedate and cultural evening, the wonderful annual Greenish competition also took place this evening. Our very own Soichiro Asao was in the final 5 performing and gave a truly fabulous performance on his violin. It was heartwarming to see him have great support from 10 members of the Boarding Community and I'm sure they all felt as proud of him as I did when he was announced as the winner of the competition. He gave a wonderful performance and left most of the audience spellbound.
As we enter the weekend, there is a little tidying to do in the morning as we prepare for Open Morning before the 12 children staying in for the weekend have a chance to take things a little easier for a couple of days. Miss Bailey and Mr Jenkins have planned a trip to the cinema on Saturday night and Mrs Phillips has several creative activities planned for Sunday.
As always, life in the Boarding House is dependent on so many different people working together and I give them all my great thanks.
Week 6:
House Parents' Star of the Week: none awarded due to half term
Matrons' Boarder of the Week:none awarded due to half term
Half term House Celebration - trip to Coral Reef Water World in Bracknell

After a tasty snack - there is no better way to ensure children get to sleep quickly. 55 tired but happy children!

Week 5:
Week 4:
House Parents' Star of the Week: Jemima Rawding
Matrons' Boarder of the Week: Ellis Turton
What a week! This week started out so calmly with our usual swim/dodgeball combination that has become so popular on Monday nights. The children are always asked if they wish something else to be organised, but as we know children are creatures of habit and love routine, so therefore seem to enjoy this Monday combo! On Tuesday night Mrs Davison and Miss Brewster held a 'pamper evening' in the Common Room, and they were even creative enough to make their own homemade facemasks using kitchen ingredients - very impressive. Some children also visited the art room and Mr Ross had a very competitive game of football running in the Sports Hall.

Thursday night was our film night this week due to Year 6 parents evening in the Arts Hall. This was a welcome relief to many (including Mr Edwards) after the very exciting cross country that had taken place that afternoon. Many of our boarders were selected to run for their age group, and all the senior children were involved in some way or another to help marshall and support the event. After a busy afternoon outside on a windy day there were many tired eyes as the children settled under their duvets to watch the films. The films ended on time and everyone was nicely tucked up in bed when..... the power went out!! Now, in a 'normal' house this would be no problem with everyone in bed, however due to our safety regulations all our 'safety lights' came on (up to 4 in some dorms!) and therefore it was as bright as daylight in the entire House! It was to the children's credit that once the initial fuss died down, they did become settled and try very hard to get to sleep - not easy with such bright lights.
Everyone was tired on Friday after a late night but it was very difficult to enforce early nights for all due to the start of the six-nations. Everyone was allowed to watch at least part of the match and it soon became apparent who was really interested to stay to the end. Morgan and Menna tried desperately to support Wales against the sea of English fans! Just to end the week nicely, the children had a lovely wake up call at 7.05am on Saturday morning when the fire alarm went off. Well, that is one way to ensure everyone is out of bed and bright-eyed on a Saturday morning and breakfast was all over and done with by 7.40am. I might remember that one for the future....
As there were only 6 children in the House this weekend we opted for a 'family' night in on Saturday night. First the children baked AMAZING fairy cakes (they really were incredible) before settling down in front of the TV in the Brice Cinema. With 2 flavours of popcorn on offer and their homemade cakes to snack on, the children all expressed how this was far better than any normal cinema!

On Sunday Madame Le-Mat took the children for a day out in Windsor. They visited the shops, had a French lunch in Cafe Rouge (all ordered in French) before jumping on the tourist bus for a tour of Windsor and Eton. They all had a lovely day and a big thanks must go to Madame Le-Mat and her son for giving the children a lovely day. Also a big thank you to Mr Stygall for giving up his Sunday to be our bus driver!
Week 3:
House Parents' Star of the Week: Daisy Walker
Matrons' Boarder of the Week: Sarah Chapman
As we approached exeat it was nice to have a fairly 'normal' week in the House this week. On Monday swimming proved to be a very popular activity indeed with over 30 children heading to the pool. Some asked for a lane to be put out to practice their swimming whilst a diving competition was quickly underway at the deep end. On Tuesday the children visited the art room or played dodgeball in the Common Room.
On Wednesday night Mrs Margetts decided that it was time to check how effective our boarders are at cleaning their teeth. After supper and before the movies (and sweets!) all the children cleaned their teeth before being given a bright pink disclosing tablet (which dyes any plaque left on the teeth a bright neon pink)! The results were remarkable - some children are doing very well indeed and others were soon sent to the mirrors to work out where a little more work is needed. I do have photographic evidence of the results, but did assure the children they wouldn't end up on the blog!! Despite the laughter and everyone's bright pink lips and tongues, it was a very useful exercise and many of the children were commenting on how they will improve their teeth brushing.
As the week draws to a close, everyone is looking forward to exeat. Boarding is great fun, but life is very busy and we all look forward to some down-time every few weeks - and what better way to spend it than at home with the family.
Week 2:
House Parents' Star of the Week: Will Morrison
Matrons' Boarder of the Week: Tom Beardmore
It is only week 2 and we have already had 4 birthdays in the House, and 4 birthdays means 4 of Kirsty's amazing birthday cakes. If a boarder has their birthday on a boarding night and they are away from home then we certainly like to help them celebrate in style. They have a special table at supper with crisps and fizzy drinks that they share with 8 of their friends. Kirsty and her fabulous team in the kitchen then produce the most amazing cakes - big enough to feed over 60 hungry mouths. These cakes are not only usually very large, but often very chocolately and certainly covered in hundreds of sweets! Of course a very loud rendition of 'Happy Birthday' is included in the mix in a unique boarding style... I will say no more!
With parents evenings in the Arts Hall and Peter Pan rehearsals in full swing it was a bit of a mixed up week this week, with Wednesday becoming Thursday and Thursday becoming Wednesday, but nothing seems to faze our boarders these days! This did mean that Mr Barron was in charge of Manhunt on Wednesday, but I am sure he did Mr Edwards proud and the children looked suitably tired when returning to the House - although pleasingly not quite as grubby as they often do on a Thursday! This meant those children boarding on Thursday were treated to a film night consisting of either 'Grown Ups' in the Old Library for the seniors, or Disney's new version of the 'Sorcerer's Apprentice' in the Common Room.
As another busy week at Eagle House drew to an end, swimming and basketball were the activities on Friday night and there was a very calm atmosphere in the House. Everyone went to bed quickly and easily, clearly tired as the second full week comes to an end.
This weekend there were only 7 children in school and Mr Barron and Miss Brewster were in charge. On Saturday night they headed into Camberley for an evening at the bowling alley and by listening to the discussions at breakfast on Sunday, I think there was some fierce competition between Theo and Mr Barron! In the end I think it was a diplomatic tie, but I might be wrong!
On Sunday, Mr Boyle took our splendid 7 for a fabulous day out in Oxford. This was a wonderful trip, incorporating Boyle tours of the University Colleges and chapels, a tall tower climb, lunch at a lovely Italian restaurant and also ice skating!! The photos show what a fabulous day the children had and they were certainly full of enthusiasm as they tucked into their roast lamb dinner on their return.

Saturday night - Bowling in Camberley

Sunday - Exploring the Oxford Colleges

Climbing the Tower
Lunch at 'Ask'

Week 1:
I hope you have all had a wonderful holiday and caught up with your family and friends. We look forward to welcoming you back into the House on Sunday 9th January between 7pm and 8pm.
The first week of term passed so smoothly that it is hard to believe that we were every away. This term we welcomed two new faces into the Boarding House - Will and Roy both joined the Year 6 boys in Larklight and settled in with great ease. Mr Brimacombe and Miss Fetchet also joined the Boarding Staff during the second half of this week as our new House Assistants from Australia. As they overcame their jet lag and started to find their way around the maze of dorms and corridors they quickly got to know the children and the daily routines of the House.
Swimming, dodgeball, pirates, crafts, ICT, pirates, football, manhunt and basketball were all on offer during the week and as always our boarders participated in them all with great enthusiasm. As the Year 8 boarders prepare for their mock CE exams after half term and some for their final scholarship exams, it is pleasing to see all our senior boarders make the most out of the their '3rd prep' session. From the first night of term, they all used this time productively and efficiently and I hope that this will only continue over the coming weeks. Our Year 7 boarders will also be having a little time 4 evenings a week with a member of staff in the Old Library to ensure they are up to date with any learning etc for weekly tests in French, Latin, Spellings etc. This 10-15 minute slot gives them time to catch up on all these extra little tasks to ensure they are fully prepared for their week in school.
The first weekend was very action packed for the 10 children who remained in school. On Saturday night Mr and Mrs Brice took them to see 'Gulliver's Travels' in 3D at Showcase cinema. This was a great movie and we all certainly enjoyed it.
On Sunday, the boarders were in for a real treat with the whole Guest family taking them on a trip to London to see Peter Pan the pantomime and Wimbledon Theatre, with no other than 'The Hoff' AND Louis Spence! Of course the children had a wonderful time and we also educated our new Aussie friends on the bizarre tradition that is the British pantomime! (Little do they know that they may well be staring in one before they head home!!!)

Michaelmas Term 2010
Christmas Feast - Tuesday 14th December 2010

What a wonderful way to end the term! Our annual Boarders' Feast is one of the best nights in the Eagle House calendar. Everyone who has been a boarder or worked in the Boarding House in the Michaelmas Term is invited to attend and this year we had a record 104 people at the feast! The evening started with pre-dinner drinks and nibbles in the Old Library which was then followed by a sit down meal in the Dining Hall. The children requested last year that this be a more formal occasion and as you can see, many did certainly make a great effort to dress up.
Between the main course and dessert our Year 8 boarders gave speeches of thanks to all the boarding staff and then it was time to boogie the rest of the night away to Mr Edwards's disco in the Old Library. As you can see from the photos - this was a fantastic night for everyone!

Boarders' Carols - Thursday 16th December 2010

And what a difference two days makes! This is a photo of the same room with the same children just two days later and there was certainly a very different atmosphere - not better or worse, just very different! I love the Boarders' carols evening as it has just a warm family feel. The children's belongings are all packed, the trunks are downstairs and everyone has watched a Christmas Movie and drunk hot chocolate with marshmallows. The fire is lit, there are presents under the tree and so all is left is an hour or so of some 'beautiful' (!) singing. Many staff join us for this event and it is certainly a very magical evening for everyone.

Michaelmas Term Review 2010
Fifteen weeks ago we opened our doors to welcome 14 new faces into our Boarding House who are boarding on a full and weekly basis and a further 13 children have joined us as flexi boarders for the first time. In total we have had 51 full and weekly boarders, 17 regular flexis, plus those children who have just signed up for individual nights throughout the term. These numbers reflect how boarding is thriving at Eagle House with 64% of Year 7s and 55% of Year 8s having been part of our House at some point since September.
The Michaelmas term is incredibly long and at times challenging for our full and weekly boarders, but ultimately a great experience for everyone. Starting the term full of nerves and apprehension but ending it dancing the night away at the boarders’ disco with a room full of new comrades is testament to this. With up to 60 children boarding on any one night everyone has had to quickly adapt to learning the rules and routines, to ensure the House runs smoothly. The children do have to be far more independent, organised and self-sufficient than they would be if they were at home and these qualities should never be underestimated. All our boarders have risen to all the challenges they have faced with determination and a positive attitude.
This term saw the opening of our new boarding extension in the House comprising two additional girls’ dorms, a fabulous Common Room, a computer and telephone area, and a new Matrons’ surgery area with two consulting rooms/sick bays. These facilities have made a great difference to the options available to our Boarders. In addition to the formal activities organised by the duty staff, DVDs, a Wii, digital TV, board games, books and art and craft supplies are also always available which ensures there really is something for everyone. We are always trying to recreate an environment that is as near to home as possible for those who stay with us and the new Common Room has really helped us in achieving this goal. Children can simply relax and chill out in the evening and chat with friends and staff if they choose to, rather than have to always participate in an organised activity.
Once the term is underway and the children are settled into the daily routines, our main aim is to strike an appropriate balance between work and play. Fun is high on the agenda in the Boarding House and our dedicated Boarding Staff have not shied away from putting on exciting and unique activities each evening. Robot Wars, Manhunt, Pirates, swimming, sewing, painting, Halloween Party, dorm decorating, card making, dodge ball, cinema nights, pamper evenings, bowling, cinema trips, Coral Reef, ice skating, the list is as diverse as it is endless. There is always something for everyone, even if it’s just chilling in the Common Room. The children have embraced all the evening activities with vigour and enthusiasm, yet returned to the House, later each evening and settled down to study and complete any additional prep and learning. Managing their time effectively has been a steep learning curve for some, however seeing the House pull together and support each other during important times has been inspirational.
For those children who are full boarders, Mr Barnard, Mr Whalley, Mr Mono, Mr Taylor, Mr Turner, Mr Edwards, Mr Gillam, Mrs Prince-Wright and Mr Wright have all offered fabulous weekend excursions. The children have been to Chessington World of Adventures, Southsea, London, Guildford, Windsor, they have watched a professional rugby match, made their own sweets, played Laser Quest and ten-pin bowling. Whatever the weather and whatever the destination the children have always had a wonderful time and are full of enthusiasm about their day on their return to the House.
A special mention this term must go to Charlie Waters, Ross Yates, Jenny Edwards, Jemima Rawding and most recently, Mika Kenny and Catherine Allum, who have all been selected to be House Prefects. These children have proven themselves to be fantastic role models for the younger members of the House and are always helpful and supportive towards the staff.
It is very difficult for me to pick a highlight of the term as there have been so many, for very different reasons. Our whole House trip to ice skating before half term is certainly a contender as it showed how well our children had bonded as a House in only six weeks. It was remarkable to look around the rink and see our boarders helping and encouraging each other. Children were not staying with their peers or friends but rather interacting with anyone who was part of our group and offering a helping hand wherever it was needed, regardless of age or gender. For me it is not the exciting big events that make me feel proud of the children, but rather a fairly uneventful ‘normal’ evening in the House. When staff aren't having to nag about laundry, showering, prep, music practice, bedtimes, mobile phones, tidiness etc we can really get on with the best part of the job - being with the children - and what a great group of individuals we have! Despite a few tough times and petty squabbles the boarders really are a tight-knit community. We are lucky to live with 51 tremendous individuals, who at times make us laugh, occasionally make us cross, but most importantly they ensure that there is never a dull moment!
I wish you all a restful holiday and a happy Christmas with your children and we look forward to welcoming you all back to the House in the New Year.
