National Prep Schools' Cross Country Championships - Malvern College 1.3.09
Tom Johnson wins the U13 Boys' race.

Award presented by Emily Pidgeon, Junior European
Cross Country silver medalist.
This was to be another great performance from the Eagle House U13 boys team but they were not the only stars running for the school.
The U11 girls team worked hard in a large field and Darcy Coop came 14th with a fantastic run. Caitlyn Earwaker ran a great race finishing 54th while Megan Wilkins and Miriam Dewes ran well, coming a little further down the field. These girls put their heart into the run and it was very good experience for these young runners.

The U11 Boys put in a great run. Charlie Waters finished in 35th position. Adam Bailey was the next runner in, closely followed by Robert Phillips and Hassan Rubbani. Adam Robinson and Ross Yates then came in, running well on what is a tough course.

The U13 boys were in great form. Tom Johnson won the race in a time of 12.41 and the next runner came over the line in 13.28. Tom won this event last year and he put in a superb performance again. Next in was Saxon Coop, who finished in 18th place; a great example of committed running. Adam Dewes was also on great form and crossed the line in 55th place. Our next runner was Oliver Cook who finished in 89th place. George Joslin and Toby Barnard were excellent team runners and completed the course in good times. The team came 7th overall out of 24 schools. Well done to all our runners.

Ludgrove Relay Cross Country - 26.2.09
Tom Johnson sets new individual course record

This is only the second fixture of the season after our own event and Lambrook-Haileybury's were cancelled due to bad weather. Anticipating the Nationals at Malvern on 1.3.09 we took four senior boys to run in this great event at Ludgrove. This run is unlike our other fixtures as it operates as a relay with each boy running a mile lap before tagging the next team member. This is really a team event! We could only take a senior team as the Year 6s were out on a trip. Luckily the course was not as muddy as usual!

Saxon Coop ran the first leg for us and made an excellent start. Oliver Cook ran second, pushing hard to stay in the top eight. Adam Dewes gave his all and came in fifth as he tagged Tom Johnson. Tom ran his lap in 6.56, breaking the record held by Eagle House pupil, Jonny Burgin, in 2007 (7.08). Tom made up ground from 5th place enabling the team to finish in second. A great achievement out of a field of 16 teams. All the boys picked up a medal for their efforts.
Cheam School won the event running in 29.18
Eagle House came second with a total time of 30.00
Individual times: Saxon Coop - 7.23 / Oliver Cook - 8.01 / Adam Dewes - 7.41 / Tom Johnson - 6.56
English National Cross Country Championships - Parliament Hill 21.2.09
Tom Johnson ran in the English National Cross Country Championships at Parliament Hill in London, one of the toughest courses and hardest fought events in the national calendar. From a starting line up of about 500 boys, Tom came 5th in the U13 boys race which was a fantastic result. He just missed out on 4th place in a 3-man sprint to the line. Well done Tom!
Inter Schools Cross Country Championships - Wellington College 17.1.09
Tom Johnson wins the Boys U15 race.

Our first outing of the season saw us taking a few runners to Wellington to run in the U13 and U15 races. Our U13 Boy runners went off first, running the 3.4 km race. Adam Dewes, Oliver Cook, George Joslin and Toby Barnard were part of a large field and all ran well. Adam came in 15th; a great run that bodes well for the season. George, Oliver and Toby came in at 36th, 39th and 46th respectively - all good performances in a race that comprised of well over 100 runners. This Year 7 'team' were a credit to the school and should have a good season ahead of them.
The U15 Boys race was to be a tough competition for our runners. Racing with Year 9s as well, and in a large field with a distance at 4.7 km this was a big ask for the first competition of the season. Tom Johnson, Saxon Coop, Tom Surrall, Dominic Hill and Michael Wright were up for the challenge. It is a difficult race to watch as a lot of it takes place in woods and for a long while you have not much of an idea where runners are. Imagine our delight at seeing Tom Johnson emerge from the woods in the lead; a towering performance. Tom ran a hard race and he couldn't have begun our season in a better way. Saxon came 26th, Dominic 30th, Tom Surrall 45th and Michael 75th. All deserve huge credit for their efforts.
Ella Higham ran in the U15 Girls race and put in a very good run, finishing in 36th position. This was a great run as she ran the 3.4 km race alongside Year 9 girls.
This is a good way to start the season and we look forward to a successful 2009.
