U13 Doubles tennis matches vs Cranleigh

Thursday 21 May 2009

Boys Team:  Saxon Coop, Michael Wright, Sean McCarten, Joshua Blosse, Jamie O'Kelly, Tristan Davis

Girls Team:   Charlotte Earwaker, Kim Brant, Yuna Kojima, Alax O'Donnell, Stephanie Morgan, Nicola Collinson

The U/13 boys and girls played a doubles tournament against a very strong Cranleigh side. Cranleigh have a number of County players in their squad, and from the early indications it was clear that we were in for a tough afternoon.

It proved to be the case, and after the first round of matches all our teams had been well beaten, with only Saxon and Michael able to get a game off the opposition. We fared slightly better in the second round of matches, with Alex and Yuna taking the Cranleigh pair to a tie-break before finally ending up on the losing side. Charlotte and Kim were unlucky to go down in their match, losing 6-4 in a tie that could have gone either way. Steffi and Nicola were also playing their hearts out, but unfortunately the opposition was just too strong.

The boys struggled a bit, but I was really impressed with the determination shown by Jamie and Tristan, who were both representing Eagle House for the first time.

The third round of matches all went to Cranleigh, but again Eagle House showed some fight, this time in the shape of Josh and Sean, who after a titanic struggle went down 6-3.

All in all we were well beaten by a stronger team, but the boys and girls can take heart from some excellent tennis played, especially seeing that for most of the team it was their first ever competitive matches.

A special thank-you must go to Nicola Collinson, who stepped in at the last minute as a replacement, and to Alyna Han, who played in the first round of games for us as a replacement for Charlotte.

U11 tennis v Cranleigh
Thursday 21 May 2009

We took our U11 boys' and girls' teams to Cranleigh on a very sunny, but windy day.

This was their first tennis match for the school and all our players performed well.  Cranleigh were very strong with little difference between their pairs, so it was a good test of our abilities.

In the girls' match, our first pair of Tanaquille Manton-Jones and Coco Thompson played superbly well and won their three games: 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.  Eloise Rimmer and Aanya Das drew one of their matches and Darcy Coop and Menna Braithwaite won their final match 6-5.  Overall, we drew with Cranleigh 4 1/2 - 4 1/2.  This was an excellent result and we can look forward to better results to come.

In the boys' match, our first pair of Lewis Riddell and Mohammed Rubbani won one of their games 6 - 2 , but lost the other two.  The other pairs of Adam Bailey and James Fowlie and Oscar Gaff and Charlie Saxby were unable to win any of their matches, but learnt a great deal in their first ever tennis match.  Adam and James narrowly lost their three games and Oscar and Charlie pushed their opponents consistently to deuce, but were unable to win the vital points to give them the games.
