Eagle House 3 tied with Charters 3

This was a great way to start the few matches that we have. Tom Surrall, Hamza Rubbani and Dominic Hill started the match with closely competed matches against the opposition. Our main weaknesses were twofold. Our players did not work the ball deep to the backhand corner and this was because they did not take the time to play the shot, but rather rushed the shot to push it back to the middle. This meant that their opponents had all the time and all the court to win the point. Squash is a thinking man's game and you have to build up the point to put yourself into a position where you can win the point.

Of the senior three, Saxon Coop and Michael Wright had comfortable wins, but both were guilty of rushing their shots. They both played excellent points but were also guilty of wasting winning positions. Take your time to get your feet right and then play the shot intelligently.

William Beedham had a great game against his opponent. Occasionally, guilty of ball watching and not working to the front of the 'T', he nevertheless thought and played intelligently to deserve to win his match with style and great heart and enabled us to share the honours.

This was an enjoyable afternoon, made all the better by the behaviour and sporting behaviour of both teams. It reflected well on both schools. I am certainly looking forward to the 'return' next term. Our next match against Wellington will be much harder.
