Wednesday 16th March
Spreadeagles 6 Caldicott 1
A great afternoon of football and a good win for the Spreadeagles. Both sides played well with EH having the lion's share of the posession. Some good goals scored by Borja and Will R. and great defending by Will J and Ethan. The game was played in good spirit and for the final outing of the season this was an enjoyable afternoon. Caldicott played hard but found it difficult to keep possession and so found it hard to break through to score.
My thanks to both teams for their sportsmanship and effort.
Man of the Match: Will Rowlands
Fine victory for the Spreads
SpreadEagles vs. Caldicott
Result: Eagle House 6 - 4 Caldicott
Fifteen different players made up the Spreads and each one contributed to a well deserved victory. After only 6 minutes Will Rowlands (Captain) delivered a 25 yard scorcher. 1-0! Two minutes later Borja Eizaguirre extended the lead with a fine dribble and shot. 2-0! Soichiro Asao nearly extended the lead after 13minutes with a good shot.
Caldicott pulled a goal back a minute later (2-1) but this did not dishearten the Spreads. We were unlucky not to extend the lead before half-time after some exceptional work from Will Rowlands and Borja going forward. The attacking display was backed up by a safe pair of hands in Ben Confortola, a fine defensive backline, spearheaded by Pablo Torrecuadrada, Robert Cootes and Patrick Davies, and a hard working midfield, consisting of William Jeffrey, José Luis de Mora and Rudy Singh.
Straight after half-time the Spreads extended the lead with a terrific dribble and finish from Borja. 3-1! At this point the Spreads began to completely dominate the match. On 24 minutes Morgan Edwards finished well after an excellent passage of passing football (4-1!). Caldicott pulled a goal back after 26 minutes but very quickly the Eagles extended the lead with goals from Will Rowlands and Morgan. 6-2!
Later into the match Caldicott pulled two goals back and at the death Morgan had a chance for a well-deserved hat-trick but, by a whisker, not too be on this occasion.
Well done boys!
Man of the Match: Borja Eizaguirre
