MATCH 5  -  12/12/2009

EAGLE HOUSE 0       LAMBROOK 20

I am glad we ended on such a high in the second half as the boys played their hearts out. We started the match very poorly which was disappointing, as we gifted some early tries. The intensity from the previous two matches was not there and Lambrook were wining all the contests. At half time we were four tries down and we had a very stern discussion about the way we were ending the season.

We really responded and every Eagle House boy played their heart out in the second half, and we were the team that came closest to scoring in the half, but it did remain scoreless. I was really proud of the boys it was just a pity we did not play like that from the begining of the match. Thanks boys for a very enjoyable season.

MATCH 4  -  9/12/2009

EAGLE HOUSE 5           YATELEY MANOR 15

This was another very good display. We have had some tough games this season but we are improving and most of the boys are giving their all. Unfortunately we are coming out on the wrong end of the scoreboard and I really hope these boys can get a win in their last match as they have tried so hard this season.

The game started well with both teams really testing each other out. I must really congratulate my boys as this was the first game where we started strongly with hard tackles from the wistle. Unfortunately Yateley scored first and like every other game we were playing catch up. Towards the end of the first half we really started to get our phases together and put real pressure on the opposition which finally told and Jamie Lunnon scored a great try.

This meant we went into half time at one try each and all to play for. Unfortunately we have been in this position before and not been on the wining side and this match was no different as Yateley came at us strongly in the second half and although we defended bravely they were the stronger side and really dominated the half. They scored two more tries and we could not reply. I did feel we got a little selfish in the half and the boys must understand that you can not try the same move over and over again as the opposition soon works it out. I just want to say a huge well done to some of the boys as they have given their all in the last few matches and it has made my job easier, they are James Erridge, Jack Carling, Harry Howard and Charlie Perry. We have got one more match on Saturday and I really want to end the season on a wining note.

Match 3    5/12/ 2009

EAGLE HOUSE  15     HIGHFIELD  30

This was a really enjoyable game with both teams playing some lovely rugby. Highfield like all the opposition we have played against had a few very big boys that in the end made the difference between the two teams. It was a big field on a cold day but it was a spectacle to watch as both teams really went at each other on attack and defence. Highfield scored first, and this is becoming a problem as we seem to watch what the opposition does first and then we react, and we did as we came back and scored a lovely reply and this is the way the game seemed to go as Highfiled scored and then we played catch up. We are still struggling a little on defence and it was heartbreaking to see us try so hard and get near the oppositions tryline only for one of their big boys to run the length of the field for a try. We seem to get bumped off when tackling and this is an area we have to improve to get some positive results.

I was hugely impressed with the effort and there were a few boys in the team that absolutely gave their all and if we can get everybody putting in that sort of effort we will play better as a team. I have also seen huge improvements as we are now playing as a team and there was a passage of play that was the best of the season. Keep it up boys and the results will come!

Match 2   25/11/2009

EAGLE HOUSE 20        PAPPLEWICK  40

Reality set in today as we met a team who had had a season of rugby already. Papplewick had some big fast boys and suddenly we got nervous to tackle. The game started and Papplewick scored straight away and we knew we were in a game. Unfortunately we looked around waiting and watching the opposition play, but thanks to James Erridge we started getting back in the game. James scored a lovely try in the corner and this gave us some belief and we started to play better as a side. We were always a few tries behind the opposition but we definitely played better in the second half. We scored three tries in the half but unfortunately we could not stop them scoring as one of their players scored 6 tries in the match.

There were good moments of play and we certainly improved as the game progressed but we must start from the beginning of the game and not wait for the opposition to dictate the match.

MATCH 1   18/11/2009

EAGLE HOUSE 30        CRANLEIGH 5

Wow what a start! It was a far from ideal start to the season with so many boys away sick making it very difficult to get a side together and practise as a team. Luckily one or two of the players arrived back at school and ready to play. Being our first match I was really unsure of how we would cope and the boys certainly exceeded all expectations. We did play the B side from Cranleigh as we had such a problem getting a team together.

The game started extremely well for us with Harry Howard scoring almost straight after the wistle blew. He is a very good club player and knows the game so this bred confidence into the team as they saw what he could do. He scored another two tries soon after and suddenly our boys started to look good, as the rest of the team started to get involved. We started spreading the ball around and the boys realised that playing as team was essential. Theo Izzat scored a lovely individual try towards the end of the half.

Cranleigh also started gaining confidence as the half progressed and they scored a lovely try towards the end of the half. In the second half not many tries were scored as we added two more tries through Harry Howard and James Erridge. We kept playing well but just could not finish off some of our promising moves.

There is a lot still to work on as we can get much better, but it was an excellent start to the season and now we have an excellent base to work from. Well done boys!
