Match 4 Wednesday 17th October

Colts D v Caldicott lost 41-0

After the great rugby game of the previous Saturday this turned out to be a disappointing match. There were various reasons for this. Several players such as Robin Voncek. Noah Walton and Ben Moore tried their best but were not helped by other players who did not play with the same commitment. It requires everyone in the team to play with 100% commitment and not just a few. In this match there was no team spirit as their had been in the previous team. You have to work together to achieve success on the rugby feild. Unfortunately we were also playing against a school who have depth in number and thereby had more players to choose from. we are playing with our last nine boys. The most important lesson to learn from today is that team spirit can make or break a team.

Match 3- Saturday 13th October

Colts D v Papplewick lost 12-19

This was a very thrilling match with dominace of the game switching from side to side. Though Papplewick took an easy lead with two tries, one of which was converted, they had to work hard to score those points. Five minutes before the break Eagle House gained the initiative and having spent the whole so far defending took the offensive. A slight wobble happened just after the break when Papplewick scored their final try. From that point on in the game Eagle House took the upper hand and replied with two tries, one of which was converted. It was one of those with a great comeback that so nearly changed the final result, a bit like the Wales/Fiji game in the recent world cup.

Overall it was a much more positive performance from Eagle House and a huge step forward from the last two previous outings. there is something on which to build on for the future, what ever happens in the final matches of this season.

The team: Saran Brar, Robin Vonchek, Ross Pawley Kean, Rudy Singh, Matthew Stuart, Ben Moore, Liam Becker, Noah Walton, and Ethan Bradd.

Match 2 - Wednesday, 10th October

Colts D v The Beacon Lost 48-0

This second match of the season was very much like the first one. The opposition ran in five tries in the first half as we failed to put toghter any kind of cohesive play. Tackling was the key. There really was not anything between the two treans except that The Beacon' s tackling was better. During the second half again we improved and some great tackling by Rudy Singh and Daniel Cook ensured that the opposition had to work even harder in the second half to score their tries. Ross Pawley Kean improved noticeably during the second half with some great runs and kicking. Unfortunately like Saran when he made ground, Ross was isolated and easily lost the ball. With experience this group of players will improve and will soon emulate the success of Colts C against the same opposition.

The team: Saran Brar, Robin Vonchek, Ross Pawley Kean, Rudy Singh, Matthew Stuart, Ben Moore, Liam Becker, Noah Walton, and Ethan Bradd. (Substitute Benjamin Teall)

Match 1 - Wednesday, 26th September

Colts D IX v The Oratory: LOST

This was the team's first outing of the season and to start with they were all at sea, particularly in the first half when they were having to play up the slope against a well organised and skillful opposition. Many of the problems revolved around the inability to tackle, although in Lewis Riddell and Rudy Singh there were exceptions to this rule. In the case of both these players they made several storming tackles on the fast running opposition. Robin Voncheck grew in confidence as the game progressed and made a number of barnstorming runs during the game. The highlight of the first half was undoubtedly the run made by Jonathan Cope, he had clearly put on his dancing shoes today, as he managed to skip through several tackles before dancing up the touchline towards the opposition try and only a last diitch tackle prevented him scoring in the corner.

The side improved greatly in the second half, only letting in two tries and it was good to see this. They  do need to learn to support the ball runner, who in turn needs to pass the ball and make it available to his team mates. The children clearly enjoyed themselves and learnt a great deal from the match.

The team: Liam Becker, Ethan Bradd, Saranveer Brar, Daniel Cook, Jonathan Cope, Ben Moore, Lewis Riddell, Rudy Singh, Matthew Stuart, Robin Voncheck
