The Oratory 7's tournament 5/03/2011 RESULTS- vs Chandlings lost 28-0 vs St John's Beaumont lost 35-0 vs O.P.S C won 33-0 vs Cranmore B(Quater final) won 21-0 vs Daneshill (Semi final) draw 7-7 but won on try count back vs Cothill (final) lost 31-7 Wow what a great day! It started very badly for us as we were in a strong pool and we met two really strong schools in our first two matches. These did not go very well and it looked like we were short on confidence. We then headed off to lunch for a good break and I think that is clearly what the boys needed as we came back a different side after lunch. We won our third pool match comfortably and this started to breed confidence. This meant we automatically went through to the plate quaterfinal against Cranmore B team. We carried our confidence through from the previous match and scored some lovely tries to win 21-0. We were starting to play atractive rugby, but the key was that we were all starting to make our tackles. This set up a classic semifinal against Daneshill. This was definitely the match of the tournament as both sides gave everything they had to make the final. Daneshill scored at the start of the match but we came back into it. It went down to the last few seconds before full time for Ben Howard to score in the corner. He had to then compose himself to kick the conversion to level the scores. This meant sudden death and the two sides just kept going at each other but neither side could manage to score. By the end of this time was up and both sides were dead on their feet it went to a try count back which we won 9-7. This match had taken everything from us and we could not quite get ourselves up for the final although Henry South did score a fantastic try in the game but Cothill were comfortable winners. I was so pleased with the effort and attitude the boys showed as this was a huge improvement on Wednesday and I hope this will continue into the next tournament on Saturday.
St John's Beaumont 7's tournament 2/03/2011 RESULTS- vs St John's Northwood lost 12-7 vs Chesham Prep lost 26-0 vs Swanbourne House won 26-7 vs Oratory Prep lost 31-0 vs Donhead lost 19-7 This was the first sevens tournament of the term and it was quite a challenge as our boys have not played rugby in a while so it took us a few games before we got into our stride. It was a lovely day and I think the boys gained some invaluable experience and I am sure we will show an improvement heading into the Oratory tournament on Saturday. The highlight of the day was our excellent win against Swanbourne House and that seemed to give us some confidence which lead to some better performances later in the day. Henry South also scored 4 excellent tries during the tournament and David Pugh followed him with 2 of his own. The man of the tournament was definitely David Pugh who tackled with ferocity and ran with commitment. Well done boys and lets take what we have learnt into the next tournament.
