Wednesday 28th November V Lambrook Haileybury

Lost 32-17

This was a fantastic game to end the season, just a great shame about the result!  The girls so wanted to end the term unbeaten - and boy did they fight hard for their dream.  However, the Lambrook team was superb; when they had possession, the ball moved down the court at the speed of light, and when the ball was ours, no pass was made easy for us.  Despite this Eagle House held their own and rose to the challenge.  I feel that I saw the highset standard of netball played by them today.  The Lambrook team voted Ella and Cessie 'women of the match' but everyone of the team could have taken the acolade.

Girls I have really enjoyed coaching you this term.  The team spirit has been great and your determination to achieve you best exactly what I love to see from pupils at Eagle House.  Well done to all.

Wednesday 14th November V Yateley Manor

Won 18-7

Another great result for the girls.  The Yateley Manor team marked closely and played with determination.  However, tactically Eagle House had the edge.    We started the match very strongly, scoring seven goals in the first quater to Yateley's one.  Nicola and Charlotte made some excellent interceptions.  Unfortunately, as the game progressed we did run out of steam a little and the game became scrappy.  That said the goals kept steadily mounting and we can be proud of the final score.  Special mentions to Claire and Ella who played skillfully and athletically throughout the match justifying their netball colours which were awarded at the beginning of the week.  Ella scored over 80% of the goals- the Yateley girls therefore nominated her as woman of the match.

Wednesday 7th November V Pangbourne College U13's

Won 24-10

Although it was three weeks since we last played netball, the Eagle House U12's came onto court raring to go!  We were initially facing the Pangbourne U13B team and we were keen to prove that we could beat an older side.  In the first half of the match Eagle House played with focus and great skill; turning in the air to deliver the ball up the court as they landed, giving accurate intuitive passes and demonstrating athletic movement around the court.  The score was 20-0 at half time.  In the second half Pangbourne fielded their U13A team.  Initially Eagle house matched them only allowing them to score one goal while upping our score to 23.  However, the match died a death slightly for Eagle House as in the last quater we tired, became sloppy with our passes and the team lost structure.  The eventual score of 24-10 wasn't a good in of how the match had gone.  Ella was voted as 'woman of the match' by the opposition for her excellent shooting and athleticism and I would again like to mention Claire for her consistency and dogged work throughout the game.  Well done girls.

Wednesday 17th October V St Andrews Pangbourne

Won 17-14

This was an exciting end to end game where St Andrews started playing a B team and ended with their A team on court!  In the first half we looked slick and organised.  Nicki had an excellent two quaters, she marked closely and kept the ball out of St Andrews circle.  Passes travelled from interception in defence up the court and into the goal with some very accurate shooting from Katherine.  However, as St Andrews put their better players on court the game became frantic.  We began to panic and our organisation became disorganisation even though we were still the stronger team!  Passes were dropped and the game began to look more like rugby.  Luckily, calm did descend by the second half of the last quater and Eagle House regained control.  It was a good lesson in what not to do when the going gets tough - luckily in the end we did get going!  Ella was again nominated as 'woman of the match' by the opposition for her energy and athleticism.  I would also like to mention Claire and Cessie for their stamina and positive influence on the game.

Saturday 13th October V Highfield

Won 23-14

Anothrer excellent team effort from the girls!  I worried that poetry, late nights, rain, lack of practice and Claire's recent rise from her sick-bed with three ears would affect our performance!  However, the U12's were very determined and focused on keeping their unbeaten record.  What is great is that our squad of ten can mix around and no combination is weaker than another.  Ella, Katherine and Elodie, our shooters, were on top form today and made the most of any attacking move.  Claire and Cessie continued their reliable work in centre court and fed quick balls into the circle. Charlotte, Nicky, Eve, Amrita and Chloe were stalwart in defence; making some lovely interceptions.  The Highfiels girls voted Ella as woman of the match and I would like to give my coaches awards to Claire for working so hard after being ill and Elodie for the improvemnet she has made with her shooting.

Wednesday 26th September V Leighton Park

Won 21-7

We narrowly avoided hitting a black cat that darted across the road infront of the mini bus during our journey into Reading. However, we took it as good luck omen!  Feeling positive, the girls exploded onto the court, taking Leighton Park by surprise and by the end of the first quarter we were 7-1 up, scoring three times in the first two minutes.  Eagle House were more organised, quick thinking and skilful than their opposition but found it difficult to keep up the same pace when I rearranged the team and asked them to pay out of position!  However, Ella, Katherine and Elodie shot very well to keep the score moving along quickly.  It continues to be a pleasure to work with such a positive and enthusiastic group of girls who are great ambassadors for their school at away matches.  Ella was voted as ‘Woman of the Match’ by the opposition.  Well done to all, keep it up!

Wednesday 12th September V Marleston House

Won 20-7

An excellent start to the season.  I was proud to be the coach! The girls really began to gel as a team.  Nicki, Charlotte, Amrita, Eve and Chloe marked well and made some excellent interceptions in defence, preventing the Marleston girls form taking many shots.  Passing in mid-court was very quick and accurate between Claire, Francesca and Ella, with Ella, Katherine and Elodie shooting very consistently.  The Marleston girls nominated Claire as 'woman of the match' for her tireless efforts.  Both she and Ella, our new captain, had excellent games.

Keep up the good work, girls!
