IAPS NETBALL TOURNAMENT THURSDAY 5TH MARCH PORT REGIS DORSET

It was more thoughts of IAPS snowballing Championships as we traveled into the snowy depths of Hampshire and Dorset

. Many 'oohs & ahhs' came from the squad as the snow fell transferring the brown hills into a snowy landscape. It did cross our minds that we might not even be able to play netball that day but luckily the valley that shelters Port Regis did not have a speck of snow.

What a great day of netball! some fantastic and confident performances were witnessed during this long and cold day. Unfortunately our first game was against eventual winners Portsmouth Grammar School, who gave a tremendously slick performance. Six goals had gone through the net before EH could score but it was a good wake-up call. A more determined team faced Sherbourne House and with more goals being converted and a stronger defence EH won 6-3. The team picked up another point in their match with Hazelgrove gaining half their score and then went on to produce a brilliant game against Godolphin. The defence were dominant and worked hard stopping the attack from even shooting one goal. Our shooters stepped up a gear being extremely assertive in attack. This winning streak continued with EH winning the next three games, improving their performance with each game.

This squad came a very creditable 3rd in their section and qualified for the play-offs. This was a hard fought game with great determination shown from both sides, Port Regis came out the victors but only by one goal.

This was a great team effort, reliable play from our more experienced players but some great improvement and inspired play from the newer squad members.

Well done to all the team; Tanaquille - Captain, Catherine, Darcy, Ashley, Lily, Menna & Sophia

Thank you to Mrs Manton-Jones and Mrs Coop for their support during the day and to Mrs Harper for her vast experience and knowledge in coaching the girls.

Portsmouth Grammar  Lost 1-7

Sherbourne House      Won 6-3

Hazelgrove                 Lost 4-7

Godolphin                  Won !1-4

All Hallows                 Won 12-4

Chafyn Grove            Won 4-2

Wednesday 14th January v Dolphin  Lost 7-8

Half time score: 5-2

Player of the Match: Maggie Knox

Eagle House took a while to warm up and find their rhythm this afternoon.  A few dropped balls and missed goal opportunities meant that despite having more possession than the opposition, we were trailing at half time.  The defence team worked energetically to prevent Dolphin domination in the second half and by the final quarter the girls were back on form.  It was an exciting 10 minutes as Eagle House scored 6 goals in almost as many minutes.  A great finish to a slow starting game.

Wednesday 3rd December  v  St Andrew's    Won 11-9

Quarter time scores: 4-2, 9-3, 10-6, 11-9

Player of the Match: Darcy Coop

Coach's player: Darcy Coop

The first half of netball was Eagle House's finest performance to date. All the girls worked well as a team and some great interceptions from Darcy allowed the ball to be fed into our circle for Kitty and Tink to sink.

A 9-3 lead at half-term caused Eagle House to be a little complacent as St. Andrew's crept back into the game. Lily was a key defender as wing defence and Maimu ably assisted at goal defence.

A good win, well done!

Wednesday 5th November  v  White House     Won 11 - 4

Quarter time scores: 3-1, 7-2, 10-3, 11-4

Player of the Match: Catherine Allum

Coach's player: Catherine Allum

A very scrappy game of netball by both sides allowed Eagle House to take a win with moments of good play.

Blanca made some good interceptions despite Eagle House giving the ball away far too easily. Catherine shot very well as Goal Shooter. Both she and Tanaquille worked very well together creating an excellent partnership, especially in the third quarter. Ashley and Maimu played well as GK and Goal Defence and although there is lots to work on, the girls' play improved as the game progressed.

Wednesday 15th October   v   St Piran's       Won 19 - 2

Player of the Match: Tanaquille Manton-Jones & Darcy Coop

Coach's player: Darcy Coop

This was an excellent game of netball on a dull afternoon!  EH were fast and physical from the start and looked their most cohesive to date.

Maimu and Blanca, 'ever-improving' worked well and Darcy had returned to her normal intelligent self on the court. Kitty and Tinks shot very well to score their highest number of goals to date an impressive 19.

Well done girls

Wednesday 8th October v  Edgeborough        Lost 5 -12

Opposition Player of the Match: Tanaquille Manton-Jones

Coach's Player:  Blanca Barreiros

This was a tough match played on a beautiful afternoon.

There were moments of brilliance from Eagle House - Ashleigh defended well and Maimu worked tirelessly especially in the final quarter as centre.

Eagle House gave the ball away too easily and some sharp shooting from the opposition took advantage of this. Blanca improves with every game and was Miss Ross' player of the match.

There is lots to work on but a great team spirit prevails.

Wednesday 1st October V Highfield       Drew 8-8

Quarter time scores: 1:4-1 2: 5-4 3: 6-7 4: 8-8

A solid start to the U11A match against Highfield on Wednesday saw Eagle House take the early lead against a well drilled side. Aided by some fine shooting from Tanaquille & Katherine as GS & GA, Darcy (captain) worked the ball well up the court as centre and was selected as the player of the match by HIghfield. Ashleigh was excellent in defence making some crucial interceptions. A great game that resulted in 8-8 and could have quite easily gone either way.

Opposition Player of the Match   Darcy Coop

Wednesday 24th September   v  Cranleigh            Lost 17 – 8

Quarter time scores :-    1: 1 -6    2: 4 -11    3: 8 – 16    4: 8 - 17

Cranleigh looked the superior side as soon as they walked onto the court scoring six goals in very quick succession. Eagle House had difficulty getting the ball into their attacking circle due to passes that were intercepted too easily. The next two quarters EH managed to almost match the opposition for goals. There was some good movement in our attacking circle with accurate shots at goal. The final quarter saw our defence limit Cranleigh to just one goal. Their determination and close marking kept Cranleigh attack away from the ball. The score is not at all indicative of the game. Well done girls!

Oppostion  Player of the Match  Tanaquille Manton-Jones

Coaches Player    Tanaquille Manton-Jones

Wednesday 17th September v Bishopsgate       Won 13 - 7

Team : Ashley Ingles, Maimu Matsumoto, Blanca Barrieros, Darcy Coop, Maggie Knox, Tanaquille Manton-Jones, Catherine Allum

Having been able to watch the other netball teams play it was clear that Bishopsgate would present a challenge to  our Colts A side. We decided to concentrate on  marking hard from the start and every member of the team contributed to the excellent first quarter by doing exactly that. Bishopsgate found it difficult to shake off the Eagle House defence and our shooters made the most of it by clocking up 5 goals in fairly quick succession.

The second quarter was more evenly matched with Bishopsgate coming back  and our girls making a few errors notably with their footwork . But the oranges gave them the extra concentration required and they tightened up the game again and combined some lovely interceptions with some creative passing to produce a comfortable  final score .

Opposition Player of the Match : Catherine Allum

Coaches Player : Ashley Inglis
