U11s Qualify for the IAPS National Finals

Wednesday 9th March

U11A V Highfield won 22-2

Women of the match: Tilda Kneen

Team: Emily Anichebe, Amynta Rimmer, Gabby Dyer, Tilda Kneen, Ella Dow, Dasha Angelova, Josie Lunnon

Another excellent win for the U11s.  it was a bit of a scrappy match in places but we looked the stronger team throughout the game.  Emily shoot very accurately and the team worked well together.  It is great to see the speed at which the girls can now move the ball down the court however, they must ensure that they remain balanced and controlled at all times.  Unfortunately, Gabriella fell just before the end of the match - we are hoping that she hasn't done anthing serious to her hand as we need her for Saturday!

Good luck for the Nationals on Saturday, Girls!  I am sure that it will be a great experience.

U11A V St Andrew's Lost 13-15

Team: Emily Anichebe, Megan Wilkins, Gabby Dyer, Tilda Kneen, Ella Dow, Dasha Angelova, Josie Lunnon

Opposition's Girls of the Game: Tilda & Ella

First quarter 4-6, second quarter 6-10, third quarter 10-12, final quarter 13-15

Today we didn't play our best netball!  It was a scrappy game throughout. Too many mistakes were made which meant that we lost possession of the ball at a vital moment and many great interceptions were not monopolized upon.  It's a shame that the girls didn't really find their 'oomph' until too late in the game.  We did equalize in the final quarter but could not hold on to the lead. Maybe it's half term tiredness?  Lets hope we find our 'va va voom' again after a well earned break!

Wednesday 16th February 2011

U11B v St Andrew's Won 3-2

Won 18 - 1

Opposition's Girls of the Game - Sophie, Jessica

Team: Sophie Bignell-Edwards (C), Daisy Robinson, Gabby Hayes, Cressida Bass, Henrietta Bull (thank you for your help), Jessica Hill, Maeve Hutchinson, Arina Petrova

This was a really scrappy game where, although we won, we did not play our best netball.  It is hard to find space on the court when the opposition is disorganised.  However, we needed to pass more accurately and drive forwards for the ball rather than losing possession because of loopy overhead passes. The girls worked hard throughout and deserved the win but I hope they can regain some more solid skills after half term.

Wednesday 9th February 2011

U11A V Yateley Manor Won 24-6

Team: Emily Anichebe, Amynta Rimmer, Gabby Dyer, Tilda Kneen, Ella Dow, Dasha Angelova, Josie Lunnon

Opposition's Girl of the Game:   Emily Anichebe

The girls generally played excellently throughout the game and demonstrated their increasing level of tactical understanding.  It is good to see how they can now anticipate the moves of their team-mates, intercept athletically and pass accurately.  There are still times when they need to think more, rather than pursue a tactic which is consistently being broken down by the opposition.  However, it is lovely to hear the opposition's coach saying how beautifully she thought they played.  Even after playing all the girls out of position in the final quarter, they demonstrated their versatility and continued to score.  Well done!  Still more hard work needed before the IAPS tournament though!

Wednesday 2nd February 2011

U11A V Bishopsgate Lost 16-17

Team: Emily Anichebe, Amynta Rimmer, Gabby Dyer, Tilda Kneen, Ella Dow, Dasha Angelova, Josie Lunnon

Women of the match :   Gabriella Dyer & Tilda Kneen

First quarter 4-3, second quarter 8-8, third quarter 12-11, final quarter 16-17

This was one of the closest matches that I have umpired at Eagle House.  It was really great to play a team so closely matched and the game could have gone either way.  Generally, we had the upper hand it terms of the score, but Bishopsgate replied goal for goal throughout the match.  Unfortunately, in the final quarter, the Eagle House girls panicked a little and made some silly mistakes - giving away possession at vital moments.  This is something we need to address - when the going gets tough we need to focus more, rather than resorting to blind panic!  That said, I was proud of how well the girls played as a team.  We made some excellent interceptions and scored some fantastic goals. Well done to all.

Wednesday 2nd February 2011

U11B v Bishopsgate

Won 18 - 1

Opposition's Girl of the Game - Sophie Bignell-Edwards

Team: Sophie Bignell-Edwards (C), Daisy Robinson, Gabby Hayes, Cressida Bass, Henrietta Bull (thank you for your help), Jessica Hill, Maeve Hutchinson, Arina Petrova

This was a fantastic game of netball from the U11B team and this is certainly reflected in the final score. In the first quarter it was soon apparent that our pace on the court was going to be an excellent advantage as we were able to make quick and accurate passes before the opposition had a chance to intercept.  After only 8 minutes the score was 4-0 in our favour, but we had to make sure that we didn't become complacent.

Despite the final score, play in the centre third of the court was fairly balanced between the two teams so there was still all to play for.  However, thanks to some excellent defensive interceptions from Daisy and Cressida, the ball rarely made into into Bishopsgate's semicircle for them to score.  With the score at half time 7-0 it would have been easy for our girls to lose their focus, however I am very pleased and proud to say that this was not the case.  The U11Bs continued to play the remainder of the match as though it had just started, and if anything, their play only improved during the remaining 16 minutes.

The girls used all the space available, worked their positions well and communicated effectively to ensure the ball moved up to Sophie and Gabby in attack as quickly as possible. In particular Cressie, Sophie and Jess formed a very strong trio in the middle of the court and Gabby worked exceptionally hard to win almost every ball as it came into our attacking third.

A great game girls - it was a pleasure to watch you play.

Wednesday 24th November

U11B V Hawley Place Won 11-7

Team: Jessica Hill(c), Sophie Bignell-Edwards, Maeve Hutchinson, Gabriella Hayes, Charlotte Evershed, Daisy Robinson, Arina Petrova

Player of the match: Sophie Bignell-Edwards

It was great to be able to give the U11Bs a game.  On the whole they played very well, although at times we did need to think more carefully about who should be asking for a pass.  Eagle House were in the lead from the start.  Hawley place did put in a last minute spurt, scoring four of their seven goals in the last quarter but they were never really a threat.  There was some lovely shooting form Sophie and Gaby and some great interceptions from Daisy and Charlotte in defense.  Jess also worked hard to feed some excellent balls into our shooting circle.  Well done girls!  It was a cold afternoon but it was great to see your enthusiasm and determination to win.

Wednesday 17th November

U11A/B V Eton End Won 13-2

Team: Sophie Bignell-Edwards, Josie Lunnon(c), Daisy Robinson, Jessica Hill, Emily Anichebe, Maeve Hutchinson, Gabriella Dyer.

This was a friendly game where many of our girls played out of position in order to make it an even match.  It was great to see the progress that some of the B team players have made over the course of the term. Well done to all of you.

U11/U10 B V Eton End    Wednesday 17th November

Eagle House 15   Eton End  1

Team: Ellis Turton ©, Amy Rickard, Kaisey Tyler-Smith, Emily Louisa Brett, Charlotte Evershed, Ellie Moore and Gabriella Hayes

What a brilliant match by the Eagle House girls! Although they felt the cold ,they played strongly throughout to deserve the result. There was some great team work seen amongst the girls with quick and direct passes. Unfortunately the girls played one player down after Ellis rolled her ankle in the first quarter but they showed great determination to win in the end.

Amy Rickard was amazing today. She had close to perfect shooting and she worked well across the court with the other girls. Her work with Gabby was terrific, and they showed off some quick and precise passes in the circle despite the defence of Eton End. They also effectively used Kaisey, Ellis and Emily on the wings. Congratulations! Ellie Moore was so strong in defence with many interceptions in the centre with Charlotte also quick on her feet driving to the ball. It was excellent to watch.

This was a good result with some excellent play. This is a start and we must build upon this success through great hard work in the practices. It is up to you

Great work girls!! Looking forward to many more wins.

U10/U11 B v HallGrove

Wednesday 13th October 2010

Loss 6-5

Player of the match: Lucky Zhang

Team: Daisy Robinson ©, Arina Petrova, Amy Rickard, Eleanora Bull, Maeve Hutchinson, Alex Edwards, Charlotte Evershed, Lucky Zhang, Ellie Moore, Ellis Turton, Emily-Louisa Brett, Gabby Hayes and Maria Mikhaylenko.

On Wednesday Eagle House girls played HallGrove at home. The teams were of equal ability and was unfortunate Eagle House did not come out with a win. Eagle House had some new girls to the team which that had little practice with, however they did their best to work together as a team.

The first half show some weaknesses of Eagle House, HallGrove came out strong in the beginning causing the girls to show some nerves. Eagle House lost most balls in the centre third for their lack to spread out, to find space and drive onto the ball. This led to some great intercepts by HallGrove. The defence was strong with Charlotte, Daisy who played beautifully as GK collecting most of the rebounds and Alex Edwards who also got some good intercepts. We do need to improve on however, our defence as to obstruct the opposition with our arms up and hands over the ball to create pressure on the other team. The girls were down 4-1 at the end of the first half.

Second half a new set of girls came on. This was mainly U10’s who have worked together in a couple of matches this season. Their teamwork was stronger and really pulled the game up. Amy Rickard proved great as GA and shot a lot of the goals for the team. She showed great positioning and moved well across the court. Ellis and Lucky in the centre third were quite with the ball and show much improvement with their movement and footwork. Unfortunately the girls struggled in the end to get the last couple of shots in losing 6-5 to HallGrove.

Thank you girls for your effort and we hope to see some improvement across the court. Thank you to those parents who were so encouraging to the girls on Wednesday.

Wednesday 13th October V Hall Grove

Won:19-1 (First quarter 11-0 abandoned after 5 mins, second quarter 4-1, third quarter 4-1, forth quarter not played)

Team: Ella Dow (c), Tilda Kneen, Josie Lunnon, Emily Anichebe, Sophie Bignell-Edwards, Jessica Hill, Gabriella Dyer, Dasha Angelova, Amynta Rimmer

Opposition's Woman of the match: Emily

Anther excellent game for the U11s.  They were unstoppable in the first quarter, scoring 11 goals in five minutes!  This was largely due to some fantastic play between Ella, Josie, Tilda and Emily in attack, with Amynta making some great interceptions in defense.  The opposition hardly touched the ball, so therefore the quarter was stopped to rearrange the team and give the opposition a more even game.  This allowed Sophie and Gabriella to have a go at shooting in the second quarter.  Gabriella scored some very good goals and even with some players playing out of position, Eagle House continued to dominate the match. It was great to be able to let the whole squad have an equal amount of play.  Well done to all the girls.

Congratulations girls!  What a fantastic afternoon of netball.  There was some excellent play throughout the tournament from all the squad - it was a real team effort.  Particular mention must go to Tilda for her advanced skills and superb shooting.  However, Emily also had an excellent afternoon and worked with Tilda brilliantly in the circle.  Ella was a great captain and a really hard working link between attack and defense, while Amynta made some amazing interceptions.  Dasha, Josie, Gabriella, Sophie and Jessica also played their part in achieving our great wins.  There is still lots we could work on though!  The medals look good on you so let's keep improving if you would like more in the future!

Wednesday 15th September U11A V The Marist

Won 19-5 (First quarter 9-0, second quarter 3-1, third quarter 1-2, forth quarter 6-2)

Team: Ella Dow (c), Tilda Kneen, Josie Lunnon, Emily Anichebe, Sophie Bignell-Edwards, Jessica Hill, Gabriella Dyer, Dasha Angelova, Amynta Rimmer

Opposition's Woman of the match: Tilda

What a fantastic start to the season!  The girls played with great determination and earned a well deserved win.  The match was a little messy at times, but on the whole the Eagle House girls looked skilful and organised.  There was some particularly good passing between Ella, Tilda and Emily around our circle and it was great to see Tilda and Emily shooting accurately to score the goals.  Amynta was also stalwart in defense where she made some fantastic interceptions to stop the oppositions flow of play.

As this was the first match of the season I did a lot of moving around of positions in order to see who played best where.  There are a few basic skills that we have to work on such as footwork, driving forward into space to receive the ball and being on balance when throwing. However, I am really excited that the U11s are a team with great potential. Well done girls!
