Wednesday 21st January v Oratory
Drew 1 -1
PLayer of the Match - Isabella Hendry
Coach's Player - Isabella Hendry
There was some good play from the under 10Bs today and they have every right to feel proud of their performance. The girls have come a fair way since their first match on their own last term. Ella has mastered the footwork rule and is becoming an increasingly confident player, using her height well. Caitlin is becoming a keen and feisty defender, exactly what you need to keep the ball out of the opponent's D. Miriam is a keen mid court player who jumps for the ball. Not bad for three girls with little or no experience of the game a few months ago.
The team have been focusing on snatching the ball and are becoming more determined to maintain possession. The promise of mini eggs ensured that this was often the case! Well done to Sydney who has really begun to master this skill. A special mention should go to Isabella who played her best game to date. She was focused and energetic throughout the four quarters, providing key support for the rest of the team. Emily and Sarah worked well together in the D and Emily scored a lovely goal - don't forget to keep moving though shooters - backwards and forwards as well as sideways - until you are in a good position to shoot.
Although there is still some way to go, the girls have shown some decent improvement and I hope that today's match has boosted their confidence and shown them that they can be a match for another team. Keep it up girls, you know what you need to concentrate on now to become even better!
Wednesday 12th November v Marlston House
Lost 8 - 0
Player of the Match - Sydney Waters
Coaches Players of the Match - Caitlin Mack, Ella Samuels, Miriam Dewes
Despite the disappointing result, I was quite proud of the U10Bs' performance today. The difference in their play since September is tremendous. Although spacing on court is still a major problem, the girls are looking far more galvanised and aware of what is going on around them. They are moving around much more, marking their partners more closely and trying harder to get free. Less arm waving and more assertive dodging however is still called for.
Apart from Emily's great goal, the best thing about today's match was the effort the team put into intercepting the ball; their leaping and stretching was successful time and again. It was a delight to see something that we had focused on in class being put into practice during the match!
The progress that has been made by the 3 girls new to the game is remarkable; they are all becoming increasingly feisty, energetic and intelligent players. Caitlin is a determined and dogged GK, Ella has finally mastered the footwork rule and is keen to get involved in the game and Miriam worked incredibly hard throughout the match dodging, running and concentrating fiercely. All three played an impressive game today and deserve to feel terribly proud of their improvement.
Wednesday 1st October v Highfield
Lost 2 - 0
Player of the Match - Emily Symonds
Coach's Player - Sydney Waters
What a difference a week and the sunshine can make! After last week’s wash out, we realised that we really had to make the most of every training opportunity before our next match. As a squad, we have focused on defending and consolidating the rules as well as improving basic ball skills and confidence.
Although the girls still have a lot to gain and learn through practice and experience, there was a marked improvement this week. The defence work paid off and Sydney and Caitlin were far more aggressive around the goal posts, intercepting the ball and snatching the rebounds off the posts, preventing the opposition’s score from creeping up!
The team’s attitude was incredibly upbeat and positive throughout the afternoon and Emily was a conscientious and encouraging captain.
Wednesday 10th September Training Game v Hall Grove
Won 11 -2
Player of the Match – Caitlyn Earwaker
Coach's Player - Sarah Chapman
A great match to begin the netball season. Although they were a little rusty after such a long break from the game, the under 10s displayed a fair amount of talent and plenty of determination against Hall Grove. All the girls were tremendously keen to play and their enthusiasm and energy outshone any feelings of weariness during the game. A particular mention should be given to the three new members of the squad – Caitlin, Miriam and Ella. Despite having been learning netball for a mere week and a half, they were very excited to play for a quarter of the game and did a pretty good job, all things considered. After such a fun and successful start, I am feeling very eager to progress with the rest of the season! Well done to all of the Under 10s!
