U10 v Lambrook

Won 4 - 3

Girl of the Game: Josie Lunnon

Team: Emily Anichebe, Ella Dow, Charlotte Evershed, Sophie Bignell-Edwards, Jessica Hill, Amynta Rimmer & Josie Lunnon

Well done girls a fantastic way to finish the netball season.  To be honest it was not your best perfromance, as we threw alot of balls away, however you all managed to hold it together and win by the 1 goal.  Charlotte was outstanding in defence but as soon as we have a turn around we must all learn to react and drive towards the ball rather than running away.

You have all been lovely to coach this year girls so don't forget all your skills and dig deep and find all your new ones you need for the rounders season ahead.

U10A v Highfield

Lost 6 - 4

Girl of the Game: Josie Lunnon

Team: Emily Anichebe, Ella Dow, Dasha Angelova, Charlotte Evershed, Sophie Bignell-Edwards, Jessica Hill, Amynta Rimmer & Josie Lunnon

This was a long journey to Highfield and I was confident that the U10's could give Highfield a good run for their money.... and during the second half you certainly did that.  The first half was obviously very disappointing as you went down 5 - 1.  I think this was due to you all going back to your bad habits such as bunching and throwing really weak passes.  I lost count how many interceptions you all did only to then throw them straight back to Highfield!  However you did come out fighting in the second half.  A few of you remembered to create more space down the court and we certainly managed to get it into our attacking circle more often then Highfield - it was just a shame that we couldn't convert each attempt into a goal.

Josie - Girl of the Game, and thoroughly well deserved.  You were one of the few that moved into a space and you fed the circle beautifully - well done!

Thank you to Highfield - the girls loved their tea.

Eagle House U10A v The Oratory

Lost 13 - 4

Girls of the Game - Emily Anichebe & Charlotte Evershed

Team: Emily Anichebe, Maeve Hutchinson, Dasha Angelova, Charlotte Evershed, Sophie Bignell-Edwards, Jessica Hill, Tianna Larson

The Eagle House girls really gave 100% in this game and really tried to work the ball down into their attacking end.  The Oratory had a very tall defensive unit and this is where we struggled to get the ball into our shooters.  There was a lot of good movement on the court during the 1st half, but during the second there was alot of standing still like a tree and just holding our arms up in the air.  There is no way you will ever win a game of netball playing like that, you must all try and remember to keep moving into a space, and if you don't receive the ball move out the way to make space for someone else to drive forward.

Charlotte - fantastic!!  Your movement in the defending circle was 100% better than I had seen before and Emily great shooting, and it was a real shame that we could not get the ball to you more often.

Eagle House U10B v The Oratory

Lost 4 - 0

Player of the Match – Daisy Robinson

This was always going to be quite a tricky game for the girls playing.  Not least that several of the girls were a year young.  Still, it was excellent experience for them and throughout the match I was really impressed with their good humour and tenacity.

Despite the score, the girls refused to give up and tried their hardest to get the ball down to Emily and Ellie in the shooting D.  Isabel Edwards was particularly impressive as centre.  Still very new to the game, her boundless energy and determination as well as good ball control, show great promise for the future.  Daisy Robinson and Octavia Medlock were also invaluable in defence and prevented the opposition from scoring more despite multiple opportunities!

So, well done girls.  You worked very well together and I look forward to watching your game develop as you go further up the school.

Eagle House v Highfield

Won 6 - 4

Team: Ella Dow (captain) Emily Anichebe, Sophie Bignell-Edwards, Jessica Hill, Charlotte Evershed, Josie Lunnon, Amynta Rimmer

A tricky match for the U10's as they seemed to be struggling to find their usual flow of play. The ball just could not seem to make it's way down into the shooting circle.  There were many interceptions in the centre third which were mainly caused because we went back to throwing high loopy balls instead of our hard fast direct balls.  However in the last quarter you all managed to pull together like the strong unit you are and pulled ahead to win 6 - 4.  Well done girls you have had a great term winning 6 out of your 8 matches - have a great Christmas!

Eagle House v Hawley Place

Won 22 - 1

Team: Ella Dow (captain) Emily Anichebe, Sophie Bignell-Edwards, Jessica Hill, Charlotte Evershed, Josie Lunnon, Dariya Angelova, Amynta Rimmer

Man of the match & Birthday Girl! - Ella Dow

Girls this was a brilliant display of team work!  Each and everyone of you worked really hard in this match throughout the whole game, your timing down the court and moving into space was perfect and your reading of the game was spot on as you all made lots of interceptions.  99% of our centre passes were converted into goals as all our shooters had a very accurate game. This was a lovely game to watch and umpire - well done girls!

Eagle House v Marlston House

Lost 11 - 7

Team: Ella Dow (captain) Emily Anichebe, Sophie Bignell-Edwards, Jessica Hill, Charlotte Evershed, Daisy Robinson, Maeve Hutchinson, Josie Lunnon, Dariya Angelova, Amynta Rimmer

This was the first netball match this season that the Ull’s have lost, and I think it came as a big shock when you were losing 5 – 0 after the first quarter.  We had a big squad for this game and I feel that it perhaps threw you all with all the changes and substitutions.

Girls when the opposition do start to pull ahead you must all remember to keep your heads up and most importantly to keep control and not to panic.  We started to see a lot of bunching on the court and a lot of wild passes which, as we saw, were easily intercepted.  The Man of the Match, which I also agree with was Sophie, after Ella went flying across the court and had to come off, Sophie went on as GA and played tremendously well scoring some beautiful goals.  Unfortunately we could never quite close the gap on Marlston House and they went on to win 11 – 7.

Eagle House v Crosfields

Won 9 - 4

Team: Ella Dow (captain) Emily Anichebe, Sophie Bignell-Edwards, Jessica Hill, Charlotte Evershed, Daisy Robinson

Player of the match: Emily Anichebe

A fantastic team performance girls - well done.  It was very clear from the first couple of minutes that you were far more experienced netballers than Crosfields which is why to make it a much more even sided game, myself and the other umpire were alot harder on you with our decisions.  Emily (GS) and Ella (GA) worked the ball into lots of lovely space down into the attacking circle and then when Crosfields did manage to get it down into their attacking end, the ball was beautifully intercepted by either Amynta at GD or by whoever was playing GK in that quarter.

It was a great game to watch and one thing you must all please try to remember is to watch where your players on your own team are - and not to run into their space.  If this does happen just Stop and Change Direction.

Thank you to Crosfields for a lovely match tea and to all our parents who gave lots of great support.

               Under 10 Tournament @

           Lambrook Haileybury

            Saturday 10th October

There was a great deal of excitement from the girls to the run up of this annual tournament, and we walked onto the court with a lot of energy. Our first problem, which our shooters magnificently overcame by the second match, was that the posts had not been lowered to the recommend England Netball height of 9ft for this age group, so Emily and Ella instantly had to try and shoot on a higher post without any previous practice. Our first match was against Highfield and I really think if we had not had the post problem we would have won this game because we certainly had 70% possession of the ball.

Our next two matches against Lambrook B and Bishopsgate, saw the Eagle House U10 girls playing netball the way I know they can.  You all moved into space pulling out your defenders and moving the ball quickly down the court.  Our Shooters also got their eye in and our defence were picking up lots of interceptions in the circle.

However for the last couple of matches a few mistakes started appearing. We forget the basics like having our toe on the line for a throw in, we bunched on the court & kept running into each others space and our passing started to let us down (you must try to remember strong hard shoulder passes).  If a match is only 5 minutes each way it is critical to remember the basics so that you do not give the ball easily to the opposition as time is so limited to get it back.

The final results: Eagle House came 6th

Highfield   Lost 2 – 0

Bishopsgate  Drew 2 – 2

Lambrook B Won 6 – 0

St Pirans – lost 1 – 3

Lambrook A drew 2-2

St Georges Windsor lost 3-4

Thank you so much to Lesley-Anne for umpiring all our games and to all the great supporters who were there cheering the entire morning.

Eagle House v Hall Grove

Won 22 - 2

There was much that was encouraging on the court this afternoon and for most of the four quarters we showed all that was good about this group. We started positively, hussling for possession and moving the ball wide and then into the circle, and soon we had established a cushion and a foundation upon which to build. Hall Grove, a player or two short today, struggled to compete as Amynta and Josie stood strong in defence, moving into the ball and competing strongly for the 50-50 ball. Sophie worked better today to keep the centre and if blocked to move wide into space to release the ball to Jessica and Charlotte who both grew in confidence as the afternoon progressed showing good hands and sensible use of space to pass the ball quickly forward to the terrible duo up front. Ella and Emily ran tirelessly to make scoring chances and then made the most of those opportunities, winning back the missed shots to have another go. There was some impressive shooting from both.

One of the things that we do need to work upon is keeping the width as it draws opposing players wide as well and so makes more space inside to develop movement. We must also make sure that we control the ball and pass it quickly and positively in front of the moving player. We must always make sure that we remain tight on the person that we are meant to be marking, covering back and recovering when we make mistakes.

It was perhaps a little easier than normal today, but it was pleasing from the touchline that we were talking to each other, moving for each other and playing for each other. This was a team performance built upon good defence from everyone, good passing from everyone and good shooting at the front. This was a good team performance and the coach's man of the match was all who played from GD to GA and all between. Now work even harder in the practices and build upon this in the next game.

Wednesday 16th September

Eagle House v Dolphin

    Won 9 - 8

Player of the Match: Amynta Rimmer & Emily Anichebe

Coach's player: Josie Lunnon

Eagle House got off to a cracking start showing good use of space, strong passes and accurate shooting finishing off the quarter 4-0.  With a slight change of team there was some good defending but the follow-up passes were poor. This loss of concentration allowed Dolphin into the game scoring three goals to our one.

The good tempo returned at the third quarter with some excellent moves around the court from Josie as well as picking up loose balls. Eagle House went into the final quarter of the match leading 8-5. They played with more determination but Dolphin were quicker onto their passes and gave their shooters more opportunities. Dolphin closed the gap scoring three goals to Eagle House's one but they had done just enough to maintain their win.

A good start girls! Lots of determination throughout the game next time!
