U10 Netball Squad 2007

U10 in warm-up
Wednesday 5th December V St Andrew's Pangbourne
U10A Won 12-5
U10B Lost 9-12
Wednesday 28th November V Lambrook Haileybury
U10A Drew 6-6
The U10As played a very exciting game against Lambrook Haileybury. Both teams were incredibly closely matched and the play was fast and furious. With Darcy away, Lily stepped boldly into her shoes as Goal Defence and played her best game of the season earning herself the well deserved title of Player of the Match. Maimu and Laura also deserve a mention for the boundless energy and nimble-footedness that saw them dodging into spaces to make themselves free for the passes.
U10B Won 12-5
We took control of today’s game in the first five minutes and although Lambrook Haileybury put up a very good fight, they were never able to keep up. With Ashley away, Rosie stepped nervously (but with characteristic enthusiasm) into the breach as Goal Shooter. She Rose to the challenge admirably, even managing to boost our score in the second half. There were plenty of athletic interceptions and the girls’ energy and concentration on court was tireless. Congratulations on another great game, girls but don’t forget there’s still one more to go…
Wednesday 21st November V Hall Grove
U10A Won 11-6
Wednesday 14th November V Yateley Manor
U10B Won 9-2
Player of the match - Beth
The initial excitment of playing on the seemingly enormous indoor court soon gave way to bemused confusion as the girls attempted to find their positions amongst the multicoloured mesh of geometric lines. Refusing to be put off, however, the team put their best feet forward (fortunately on side) and proceeded to take control of the game from the first whistle. Ashley and Beth were given plenty of shooting opportunities and we were treated to 9 fantastic goals. I have to say that we have been extremely delighted with the B team this term. Their team spirit is competative but contained, cohesive and encouraging. Their performances in matches have gone from strength to strength and the girls are really beginning to take ownership of their positions, exploring their potential. Watching today's match, it was also brilliant to see that tactics and skills practised in lessons are starting to become embedded in their game. The girls are evidently thinking about passing, spacing and marking and play, as a result, was evenly spread throughout the team. Another excellent team effort. Another great result!
Thanks also to all the parents who came to support us and helped with transport!
Wednesday 7th November V Dolphin
U10A&B Won 13-6
Players of the match - Tanaquille & Sophia
The two week break has obviously done the under 10’s a world of good! Both teams came back refreshed and energized to play which reflected in their final score. The B’s played a good first quarter scoring once and playing very well together, showing some of the backline passes we have practiced as well as good order of play. The A’s came on for the second quarter and had a thrilling 8 minuets in which they scored 9 goals!!! The team showed real improvement with the ball, on many occasions, going straight from a center pass into our D, with out the opposition not getting a touch. At half time the spirits were high and the B’s took to the court feeling confident and performing again to a high level. Beth’s shooting was nice and accurate and she scored again. For the final quarter the A’s returned to the court and finished the match with a brilliant score of 13-6. A huge well done to all of the players you deserved the win!!!
Thank you to all the parents that came and supported us again, and we hope to see you at our next match.
Wednesday 17th october V St Joseph's
Under 10B
Score: 3-2 to Eagle House
Player of the Match: Sophia Wallis
What a great match! The under 10Bs played with such energy and determination from start to finish, it was difficult not to be impressed by their spirit! With no goals scored in the first quarter, both teams were keen to take control of the scores in the second and by half time it was a one all draw. Reenergised by their orange quarters, however, St Josephs promptly went on to score another goal putting them in the lead. Not to be outdone, Beth soon redressed the balance. A nail biting final quarter saw the ball being battled over by both teams, no one wanting to settle with a draw. Luckily for the team, Chantelle (GD) and Jess’ (GK) defensive skills had been increasing dramatically throughout the game and by now they were intercepting many of the balls being thrown to the shooters and getting them away from the opposition’s goal posts. The atmosphere was tense but exciting as Ashley, with only minutes to go, took possession of the ball in the shooters D. Despite being as far away from the post as she could have been, she took her chances and scored a wonderfully improbable goal. The crowd cheered and the girls grinned knowing that a fantastic victory had been secured!
Well done everyone!
Saturday 13th October Tournament King Edward’s
U10A
Coaches player: Darcy Coop
This was a tough tournament! The team played well all morning displaying some good skills, with accurate movement on and off the ball. Unfortunately they were not prepared for the level of determination and ‘grit’ from the other teams therefore they tended to loose confidence in their own ability. This team shows great promise so they must not be disheartened with the mornings games.
Wednesday 10th October v Bishopsgate
Won- 5-2
| Players of the match |
- Catherine Allum
- Tanaquille Marton- Jones
- Chantal Humphreys |
The under 10s continued their great season with another win against Bishopsgate on Wednesday. As Bishopsgate were only able to play one team for the under 10 age group we decided to give both teams 2 quarters each of the match.
It was a slow start for Eagle house as Bishopsgate held the lead for the first quarter and were the dominant players on the court. In the second quarter we were able to draw level with them and go in to half time with a 1-1 score.
As we entered the 3rd quarter the Eagle house play picked up hugely, with timing and passes improving enabling movement off the ball and creating space on the court. Jessica and Chantal played very well in the D managing to clear the ball out quickly and accurately.
The play in the 4th quarter between Tanaquille, Catherine and Maggie was brilliant creating our 4 scoring opportunities and our defensive play was strong held strong as Laura and Darcy intercepted everything that came in to there area preventing Bishopsgate from having any shots in the last quarter. A huge well done to all of the girls that played and thanks to the parents who came to support.
Wednesday 26th September V Daneshill
Under 10A won 5-3
Players of the Match chosen by team & Coach: Tanaquille Manton-Jones & Darcy Coop
Despite a slightly scrappy start to the match, play began to pick up in the third quarter. The attackers, particularly, impressed us all with their spacing and order of play, enabling both Catherine and Tanaquille to score 5 great goals. Defence was held strong by GD, Darcy Coop, who made plenty of skilful interceptions preventing too many attempts at goal from the opposition!
Under 10B Won 7-0
Player of the Match: Beth Cowan
The first two quarters passed without any goals as both teams vied for possession and struggled to get the ball to their shooters. A reshuffle at half time proved successful as Beth scored 4 goals in the ensuing 8 minutes! Eagle House continued to dominate in the final quarter with Beth and Ashley scoring another 3 goals between them. Once again, the girls played well together as a team and should be congratulated on another great victory!
Thanks again to all the parents who came along to support us!
Wednesday 19th September Training games
U10B V U9A 4-1
U10A V U10B 4-1
Both games were excellent practice for upcoming matches. The girls are beginning to show some tactical awareness in the game but still need to work on thinking and throwing more quickly and repositioning themselves on the court when their team gets possession of the ball. The U9's chose Beth as 'Woman of the Match' in the first game, the U10A's chose Jessica and the U10B's chose Catherine as 'Women of the match' in the second.
Wednesday 12th September V Marleston House
It has been an excellent start to the season for the U10s squad, with both teams securing impressive victories against Marleston House!
Under 10A
Score: 7 -1 to Eagle House
Player of the Match: Maimu Matsumoto
The U10As started strongly, showing some terrific ability in their passing and spacing on court. There were also some spectacular interceptions made by the defensive players creating plenty of opportunities for the shooters who took full advantage. Energetic and enthusiastic centre court play was displayed by all members of the team. They deserved their victory and we eagerly anticipate a repeat performance against Daneshill on the 26th!
Under 10B
Score: 3-0 to Eagle House
Player of the Match: Millie Golightly
The U10Bs dominated their match from the start showing enthusiasm and increasing confidence in their play. Ashley and Beth scored great goals from difficult positions despite the sun their eyes. This, combined with some excellent defensive play on court secured us our win. Team spirit was high and the girls should be congratulated on a great victory!
We would also like to say a big thank you to all the parents who came along to support us!
