Wednesday 12th March

U9B Hockey v Lambrook Haileybury

Lost 3 – 2

What a fantastic improvement!  For the first time the girls looked like a team and seemed to understand they had to keep pushing the ball forward to score the goals. The midfield players did a sterling job getting the ball through the opposition to our forwards who worked well together to score a couple of excellent goals. Captain and Man of the match Emily Symonds, was brave and courageous in defence, keeping many a ball away from the goal.

Considering we were playing a team of Year 4’s, whilst EH team had 4 year 3’s, this was an excellent result. Well done girls!

Forwards: Emily A & Josie L

Midfield: Megan W, Annabelle A-P, Sarah C, Clare C

Defence: Emily S, Tammy I & Maeve H

Wednesday 5th March V Bishopsgate

Lost 3-0

This was a great game, played on the Boshopsgate mini astro-turf.  The girls battled really hard but lost the game largely due to their lack of spacing on the pitch.  When they did get the ball out of the muddle there was nobody to pass too!  Chloe did a stirling job on the left wing; fighting hard to keep possession of the ball and Alice rose to her role as defender taking 16s at speed!  Bishopsgate nominated Caitlin as the Eagle House girl of the match.

U9 v Daneshill       Lost 0 -2

This was a very even game with some solid defensive play from Sydney and Isabella. Eagle House had difficulty in breaking through Daneshill’s defence and then pushing the ball forward to the goal.  The opposition managed to score in the last couple of minutes.

Man of the Match   Caitlyn Earwaker

U9Bs v Highfield

Playing on grass is never easy when you’ve been practicing on a hard pitch and the U9Bs inexperience on the field showed. Having said this, their stick and ball skills often seemed to be more controlled than their opponents and there was some careful passing and dribbling. Whilst this will stand them in good stead on astro turf or the hard pitch, it was not as helpful on the grass where they found that they needed to hit the ball a lot further and a lot harder than they are used to! There was some determined play nevertheless; Sydney’s defensive play stood out and there were some persistent performances from the mid fielders and attacking positions. Let’s not forget that this was the girl’s first hockey match and their gritty and positive attitude in the face of defeat was admirable!

Final score- Lost 5-0

16th January

V Yateley Manor

The under 9s took to their first hockey match with huge enthusiasm.  Having never played on grass or in a proper match before, they have shown great potential as a team.  Problems that we faced were issues like spacing and man to man marking but this will come with time.  There is a lot to take away from this match and the girls should be pleased with there performance. Thank you to all the parents who provided transport and all those who came to support.

Final score- EH Lose 0-4

Player of the match- Lucy Whitehead
