Under 8A v Bishopsgate

Friday 19th March

Won 2-0  (Melanie1, Anastasia 1)

Squad: Sadie, Megan, Cordelia, Anastasia, Melanie, Anna, Tabitha and Emma

If at first you don't succeed; try try and try again! So apt for this promising side. A fantastic win girls - well done! Even though there was still some bunching and crowding around the ball, we slowly remembered to keep our positions. Cordelia showed great maturity as CM controlling the ball and placing it up to the forwards or out onto the wing. Melanie was quick to pick up the ball and take it into the circle with the support of Anastasia and Sadie. Anastasia set up a beautiful cross into the opposition circle which Melanie despatched quickly into the back of the goal. Textbook stuff year three!! Bishopsgate came back fighting and really put the pressure on our defence but Megan, Anna and Tabatha managed to keep the ball off the goal line.

Eagle House were dominant in their possession of the ball and looked the more skilful side so a deserved win to end the season.

Eagle House U8A v The Abbey

Wednesday 11th March

Drawn 3-3  (Melanie 2, Cordelia 1)

'Bees around the honey pot' best describes this game and certainly the first half. In the excitement of playing a match, all the hard work and training to stay in position and look to team mates before passing - all flew out the window. This was the same for both teams as they were very evenly matched. For several minutes the ball went up and down the pitch, numerous feet in the way, like a little swarm looking for somewhere to nest. Occasionally a pass would be made out wide and the game would pick up. Our defence of Tabitha, Megan and Anna worked very hard to keep the ball away from the D and off the goal line. Melanie as CF was very determined and when the ball was in the circle she finally had the opportunity to give the ball a great hit and into the goal.

The Abbey struck back straight away and caught the girls out with their quick passing. Another followed shortly after as our heads went down so we finished the half 2-1 down.

There was a great improvement in positioning in the second half. Whether it was a reminder of their training or that their legs were just tired, it worked. Passing was positive; to a player in space and the ball was moved with more confidence. Tabitha had a fantastic game, really attacking the oncoming ball and swiftly dispatching it away back down the pitch. Our next two goals came from a set of accurate passing directly from the push back, Melanie and Cordelia always eager and enthusiastic to score from a pass from Anastasia. Cordelia was the next on the scoreboard and then Melanie's second goal came just as the whistle blew.

A great improvement girls, well done

Eagle House U8A v Yateley Manor (home)

Wednesday 3rd March

    Eagle House      1 v 3     Yateley Manor

(Melanie Dickin)

Squad: Sadie Parry (Capt); Megan Ross; Cordelia Bambury;

Anastasia Grillo; Melanie Dickin; Anna Morgan; Tabitha Elmhirst

The Under 8s finally had their first match of the Lent Term against a very well organized and talented Yateley Manor team.  The past two weeks in training had been spent working hard on positional play as the large pitch at Wellington College was going to be a new experience for some of the girls.

Although Yateley started well and had a lot of possession, the defensive group of Anna, Tabitha and Megan were also on their game and managed to keep the score line blank for most of the first half.  Unfortunately Tabitha was injured on an Eagle House attack and this unsettled the team enough to allow Yateley to break away and score the only goal of the first half (HT 0-1).

After some encouraging words at half time, the team came out strongly in the 2nd period and tried to take the game to Yateley Manor.  Cordelia and Anastasia were seeing a lot more of the ball in midfield and as a result Sadie and Melanie were getting closer to setting up an equalizer.  Finally the goal came after great work by Sadie set up Melanie for the shot and although it was initially saved, she followed it up to force the ball over the line and level the scores at 1-1.

Eagle House continued to have a lot of possession in and around the opposition circle, but could not create any more clear cut chances.  In fact it was Yateley Manor, who always looked dangerous on the break, who went on to score their 2nd and 3rd goals of the game and clinch the victory (FT 1-3).

A great effort by the U8s and there are certainly signs that this team has the potential to improve a lot in their future matches!

Yateley Manor's player of the match: Sadie Parry
