Senior Girls' Hockey Team 2008
Captain Goaly Defenders
Wednesday 27th February V Lambrook Haileybury
Lost 9-0
A very disappointing score against a skillful team who made the most of their home advantage. We looked quite organised for the first ten minutes of the game but after Lambrook scored, the Eagle House girls seemed to lose their resolve to win and found it difficult to put together any meaningful attacking moves. Ella worked hard in mid-field but poor movement around the pitch meant that she had few opportunities to make successful passes. Our goalie, Claire (man of the match), made many determined saves in order to prevent an even more embarrassing score line! I hope that the girls can continue to learn from their mistakes, believe in themselves as hockey players and can enjoy more success in the future.
Wednesday 6th February V Highfield
Lost 5-0
Mud, mud, glorious mud... there isn't much more I can say about this game except that hockey on grass is a very different game from hockey on astro! The girls showed sparks of skill and their stick work was definitely superior to their opposition. However, we were not good enough hitters or strong enough tacklers to make an impact in Highfield’s half. Don’t get down hearted girls – keep working at it and the results will come.
Saturday 2nd February V Hall Grove
Lost 7-0
Opposition's woman of the match - Ella
Coach's women of the match - Claire and Nicola
A rather disappointing score line! The cold afternoon led to the girls not really getting into the match quickly enough. Hall Grove’s skills with the stick and positional understanding were excellent and we looked rather sluggish and disorganised in comparison. However, there were a few positives! Nicola played excellently in defence with Emily developing very well in the light of the fact that it is only three weeks since she started playing hockey. We were also saved from an even move embarrassing score line by some very positive goal-keeping from Claire. I hope that the girl’s won’t let this match affect their enthusiasm as they have lots of potential for the future.
Wednesday 23rd January V Dolphin
Lost 1-0
Quite a frustrating first game of the season. We had most of the play and commanded the ball during the match but just couldn't find the back of the net. In the first half of the game the girls just weren't agressive enough. One break from the Dolphin team and a mistake in defence gave them the goal. Ella worked very hard throughout the match in mid-field and Nicki was solid in defence. However, while there were lots of positive moves we couldn't make anything from them in the D. The girls came out much more aggressively in the second half but some good goalkeeping from the opposition denied us the goal we deserved. Well done to all, but particular mention should go to Chloe, Eve, Emily and Claire in goal for playing with such skill in their first ever hockey match. Lots to work on during the coming season.
Claire was nominated woman of the match by the opposition and Ella was given my award for her dogged determination.
