Thursday 12th March v The Abbey Lost 1-5
Under 10A
Team selected: Caitlyn Mack (GK), Sydney Waters, Caitlyn Earwaker, Alice Jennings, Megan Wilkins, Lucy Whitehead, Chloe Newland
Despite the score it was a very tight match and we conceded three late goals only after we lost Alice Jennings to an injury. Unfortunately we were already using our two substitutes.
The girls played with commitment and enthusiasm, using the width of the pitch and tackling well. Particular mention must go to Caitlyn Earwaker who was voted player of the match and Alice Jennings for their tireless support work supporting and leading the others throughout the match.
Wednesday 4th March v Marlston house Lost 1-0
Under 10A
Team Selected: Caitlin Mack, Tamara Izzat, Sydney Waters, Caitlyn Earwaker, Clare Chummun, Alice Jennings, Megan Wilkins, Lucy Whitehead.
I am going to leave this blog short and sweet as the message is clear and simple. This was by far our best performance of the season. I am so proud that in my last game of the season we played to such a high standard. Although we lost, it was a game in which EH dominated from start to finish creating lots of chances, camping in their half of the pitch.
All the girls should be proud of their performance and dont worry, the victory will come! I wish everyone in the side the best of luck in the future and as we saw today, although you may prefer netball, hockey is fun and exciting when played at a good standard. Thank you to Marlston House for a great game and a delicious match tea!
Wednesday 4th March v Marlston House Lost 1-3
Under 10B
Team Selected: Emily Symonds, Sarah Chapman, Ella Samuel, Izzy Hendry, Sasha Bogdanenko, Miriam Dewes, Chloe Newland.
This was the last game that I would take the U10B side, a game in which they should be very proud of. Everything that we have worked on over the past couple of months came into place, as we began to look like a side who really wanted to compete and leave having won. The score did not reflect the way in which we played. We dominated large chunks of the match, our only fault being unable to put the ball in the goal on occasions. However late in the game we managed to score thanks to Sasha Bogdanenko.
I am very proud of the girls who have improved so much over the course of this term. I wish them the very best in future seasons at Eagle House. Very well played girls!
Wednesday 25th Febuary,
Eagle House U10A 0 Vs 8 Hall Grove
Team Selected: Caitlin Mack, Tamara Izzat, Caitlyn Earwaker, Clare Chummun, Alice Jennings, Megan Wilkins, Lucy Whitehead.
This was a tough game against a very experienced Hall Grove side. Like the U10B team the A's made a very slow start conceding a couple of early goals. Hall Grove had an extremely talented centre who caused us a lot of problems, as she attempted to dribble round our defence. Apart from that I thought we played quite well with some good passing, switching the play quickly. We started to drive down the pitch on our stronger side thanks to some good play from Alice Jennings which was nice to see. We have practised many times being able to run with the ball, especially on our stronger side. However our good play was put to one side as Hall Grove continued to attack with some great play.
After half-time I was hoping that our performance would of improved however the girls let their heads go down, which wasn't so nice to see. We seemed to lack the drive to want to win the ball and get 'stuck in' with their tackles. We came so close to scoring thanks to some good work from Caitlyn and Alice, however Lucy narrowly missing the target. The girls haven't played in a long time due to various circumstances so lots of hard work is needed to improve in our next game. Thank you to all who came to watch and to Hall Grove for a good game. Hall Grove's suggested girl of the match was Megan Wilkins which is fantastic considering she is a forward who was playing in defence. It would be great to see some more drive in the next game girls!
Wednesday 25th Febuary,
Eagle House U10B 0 Vs 7 Hall Grove
Team Selected: Emily Symonds, Sarah Chapman, Ella Samuel, Izzy Hendry, Sasha Bogdanenko, Miriam Dewes, Chloe Newland.
Despite the scoreline this was a very exciting game, a story of two halves! In the first half we were very slow, most likely due to the lack of time playing hockey since the snow and half term. We forgot a little about our positioning and tactical play of breaking down a strong Hall Grove team. From the opening whistle we were under considerable pressure with Hall Grove attacking our goal from all angles. This meant that everytime we got the ball out of our half we had no players in support up the pitch. By the time the half-time whistle went we were losing 6-0.
However the second-half was a very different story. Everything we had practised in training came together as we produced much more of a fight. Our passing had much improved with the players wanting the ball. Some great defending from Sarah Chapman kept us in the game as we pushed for a goal. Even the couple of times Hall Grove did attack our goal Emily Symonds was good to it, kicking the ball out. We came so close to scoring with Miriam Dewes and Izzy Hendry linking up well together however today was not the day. Towards the end of the game we let in another goal which slowly knocked the confidence we had gained, out of us. I want the girls to be proud of their performance as the second-half performance was very good. Thank you to all the parents who came to watch and to Hall Grove for a good match! Hall Grove's girl of the match was Izzy Hendry, well played.
Wednesday 28th January,
Eagle House U10A 0 Vs 5 Daneshill
Team Selected: Caitlin Mack, Tamara Izzat, Sydney Waters, Caitlyn Earwaker, Clare Chummun, Alice Jennings, Megan Wilkins, Lucy Whitehead.
The score did not reflect the way in which the girls played. The past couple of weeks we have been practising heavily on pushing the ball out wide, especially on our right (stronger)side. I thought the team showed promising signs of understanding this basic tactic. Daneshill provided us a tough game with their midfield dominating possession of the ball. However we battled hard with some great tackling from Alice Jennings and Caitlyn Earwaker. Although we conceded a couple of goals early on, we still were on the attack with both of our wingers attacking the far line attempting to push the ball across goal.
After a quick team talk and a couple of oranges we were ready to start the second-half. Both teams at this stage were cold as the temperature dropped and rain began to fall. This was clearly evident in our play as concentration began to slip, resulting in Daneshill scoring two quick goals. We will forget about our moment of madness attacking our own goal by accident! Considering we are an inexperienced team at the moment there are plenty of positives to take forward to our next game, whilst we build on the negatives this week in training. Thank you to all the parents who came to watch and to Daneshill for a good opening match. Well done girls!
Wednesday 28th January,
Eagle House U10B 0 Vs 5 Daneshill
Team Selected: Emily Symonds, Sarah Chapman, Ella Samuel, Izzy Hendry, Sasha Bogdanenko, Miriam Dewes, Chloe Newland.
The first game of the Hockey season saw us playing a strong Daneshill side on yet another miserable wet afternoon. The opening play of the first half looked very promising with quick passing and good movement of the ball. However Daneshill supported a very strong defence, causing us many difficulties. Our early chances were sadly un-rewarded as Daneshill began to step up a gear. There passing at times cut us apart, the only difference in that they took there chances well. After eight minutes we were losing 2-0, however what was pleasing to see was that the players didn't give up! They kept on battling, especially in the midfield lead by Izzy Hendry. At the half-time whistle I think everyone was looking forward to a short break and an orange slice!
The second-half was very similar to the first; the game was very equal in terms of ability, the only difference being Daneshill taking their chances. Considering the girls had only played once on a pitch that is supposed to be our home pitch I think they should be very proud of there performances, they kept on going to the final whistle. Let's take the experience gained in this match, and build on it in our next game. Well done to all the girls especially Sasha who played her first ever game of Hockey. Thank you to all the parents who came to watch and to Daneshill for giving us a tough opening match.
Wednesday 19th November v The Oratory Lost 5-0
Opposition of the player of the match: Lucy Whitehead
Coach's player: Caitlyn Earwaker/Sydney Worm
This score was not at all indicative of the game the girls played. Until now the Under 10's have been working hard on their stick skills and haven't yet chosen a goal keeper so it was unfortunate when The Oratory decided to keep their goalie in for half a game whilst we had an open goal.
As a team Eagle House tended to stand back instead of closing down an opponent and in hesitating it allowed the attack to break through our defense. Caitlyn and Clare worked well together getting the ball moving out to the wing but we easily lost possession by passing the ball before looking for the space. We had a couple of real chances at scoring but lacked the conviction to see it through.
The second half was much more productive, the girls tackled with more confidence, with Alice and Chloe dribbling the ball well up the pitch. Sydney worked particularly hard keeping the Oratory attack away from the goal and getting the ball out to the wing.
Despite the score this was a positive first game for the under 10's. They displayed some good skills and are beginning to understand the tactics of the game.
Well done girls!
