Wednesday 12th March v's The Abbey
U10A Lost 2-1
What a difference a week makes! Using all the space, passing the ball out to the wing, tackling with confidence and dribbling with the ball. Everything that had been a target in previous matches came together, resulting in a fantastic game of hockey for the U10As. The score-line does not do justice to their excellent play as Eagle House had by far the greatest proportion of possession throughout the game. The ball was frequently in the Abbey's 'D' however we didn't have that final bit of organisation and determination to get the ball into the goal. Milly and Laura became a fantastic unit, working together in defence and yet again there were some good saves by Ashley. Milly approached the opposition with determination and made some great tackles to keep the ball out of our half. Tanaquille, Darcy, Maggie and Lily worked fantastically in midfield, using the whole width of the pitch and linking well with Catherine up front, to keep The Abbey under pressure. A great game of hockey, and the girls should certainly feel proud of their performance.

U10B Hockey V The Abbey
Drew 2 – 2
The girls demonstrated some good skills but found that playing on the larger grass pitch was quite a challenge as well as having to hit the ball hard to make it move any distance. The defence worked well at keeping The Abbey away from the goal but when they did get through Chantal made several good saves. Aanya and Rosie moved the ball well into spaces on the wing creating a couple of good scoring opportunities for Maimu & Menna. It was a solid all-round effort by Eagle House, well done to all the team.

Wednesday 5th March v's Bishopsgate
U10B Lost 4-1
Despite the scoreline, the Eagle House girls played this game with energy and determination against Bishopsgate's U10As. However, the team's lack of positioning and formation on the pitch made it difficult for players to link successfully with others, meaning we never really strung together enough positive attacking moves. Individually, there were some really promising performances. Sophia put in some excellent tackles in defence and by the end of the game she was demonstrating a good understanding of her role. Darcy and Maggie were tenacious in mid -field and worked well to get the ball up to Lily in attack. Lily used some excellent stick work in the circle. The team worked hard for their goal, scored by Darcy, just after half time. There is still a lot to learn, but well done girls.

Wednesday 5th March v's St. Andrews
U10A Lost 5-0
A late start enabled the U10As to practise their short corners and discuss tactics for the match. Based on their last performance, the U10s needed to be more proactice in closing down the opposition, tackling with greater confidence and creating a defensive ring when it was their free hit. From the first whistle it was clear that the confidence shown in training disappeared when faced by an opposition. It was a tentative start with the majority of play down the centre of the pitch. Playing centre midfield, Tanaquille passed the ball to Laura on the wing on a couple of occassions, however a breakdown in defense led to an early goal for St. Andrew's. Despite this, the girls did not lose motivation and soon there were a good couple of breaks down the right wing from Milly, Menna and Catherine, resulting in a short corner - a chance to put all that earlier practice into action. Despite a valiant attempt from Laura, Tanaquille and Catherine, we did not have the power behind our shots to make them reach the back of the goal. The remainder of the first half saw two good saves from Ashley.
After a half time talk, the girls showed a very different attitude with their sticks down and making more positive steps to close down the opposition and tackle for the ball. We were certainly showing a stronger and more confident style of play, however a great save by Ashley was not cleared which eventually resulted in St. Andrew's second goal. Milly and Rosie soon became more united in defense, although so it seemed did St. Andrews' attack. A further 2 great saves from Ashley, including one in the far left corner of the goal, resulted in a corner for St. Andrews, which in turn led to their third goal of the match. For the remainder of the second half, the U10As were certainly using their positioning much more effectively on the pitch and the defensive ring discussed at the start of the match, was working well to obtain the ball on many occassions from St. Andrews free hits. These were then being passed with far greater accuracy to see some good play by the U10As. Nevertheless the ball was predominently in our half and 4 short corners in quick sucession for St. Andrews led to them finding the goal a further two times.
The match has certainly provided a lot of learning opportunites, however the overriding message is the importance of showing strength and determination.

Wednesday 6th February v’s Highfield
U10A Lost 4-0
2nd Half Blog
Returning to the pitch 3-0 down, the girls were full of determination to improve their performance and that they certainly did. Rosie, Milly and Ashley became more united in defence, working as a unit and using greater strength to clear the ball more effectively on the grass pitch. Tanaquille (named player of the match by the opposition) proved to be a pivotal member of the team, moving the ball with ease to Laura and Aanya on the wings. During the half, Eagle House had a large proportion of the play and Laura and Catherine drove the ball forwards on a number of occasions, despite failing to reach the goal. For a first match on grass, all the girls certainly improved as the match progressed.

U10B Lost 4-0
1st Half Blog
After only a couple of practices on grass, the U10B team stepped onto the pitch at Highfield with great enthusiasm. Their positioning on the pitch had clearly improved, with Chantal, Sophia and Beth working together in defence and Maimu and Maggie staying out on the wings, to keep the play away from the centre of the pitch. The first half saw Eagle House with the greater proportion of possession, however Highfield made a quick run to score the only goal of the half. Despite some great play by Maimu and Lily on the left, the U10Bs were unable to demonstrate the strength required at the final stages, to get the ball into the goal. Darcy Coop was named player of the match by the opposition.

Under 10B Draw 0-0
Player of the match- Menna Braithwaite
RRR Player of the match- Ashleigh Inglis
For their second match of this season the girls started to work well as a team. There are many things that we can take away from this game and there is a lot that can be worked on. Throughout the game there were accurate passes being made across short distances, we would however struggle when we made a break, often passing the ball ahead of us to no one when we did have the opportunity to push forwards with it. During the second half Ashleigh Inglis played really well stopping some very strong shots and showing great potential as a goal keeper. Maggie and Menna also played strongly connecting passes and taking shots at goal. Well done to the girls and I hope they continue to improve during the season. Thanks you to all those parents who came to support and to Miss Ross and Georgie for there coaching and for driving the mini bus.

Wednesday 16th January 2008 v Yateley Manor
U10 A Lost 1-0
The girls made a good effort in their first match of the season with everyone contributing to the game. The main difference between the teams was that Yateley had rather more aggression and desire to win. Ashley put her best foot forward in goal, Millie showed some neat foot and stick work at times and maintained her position well. Catherine had a good shot at goal, unfortunately missing by only inches. Tanaquille was strong in defence, tackling and clearing the ball and was named player of the match by the other team. Yateley managed a more attacking style of play which made the difference on the day.

U10 B Lost 4-1
After only a week of training, the U10B girls grabbed their hockey sticks and stepped out with confidence onto the astro at Wellington. The first half highlighted that the girls were clearly unused to the vast amount of space available to them on the hockey pitch, however this dramatically changed in the second half, during which the girls maintained their positions a little more and started moving forward with the ball. A great run from Maggie, finished expertly by Aanya, resulted in the U10B’s first goal of the hockey season. Team captain Menna, showed great determination throughout the match and Chantal proved to be a fantastic goalie, kicking out with growing confidence at many of Yateley’s well placed shots. Sophie and Beth began to develop a strong partnership in defence supported well by Jess in midfield. This first game of the new season has certainly whetted the appetite for hockey and has highlighted the training needs before our next match, focusing on using the space and driving forward with the ball to demonstrate a more attacking style of play.
Many thanks to all the supporters who came to watch both matches.
