v Hall Grove under 11 d VII won 1-0
v Hall Grove under 11 c VII drawn 0-0
This was a good way to finish our season. Despite the lack of physical time made available because of the inclement weather before half term, there are many within the game who have shown during this short season that they want to learn and want to improve. As a result it has been pleasing that they have worked hard, taking on board the advice and coaching. Of course there is still so much that can be improved but the change since the start of the season has been rewarding.
The games today, played on grass for the first time, were closely contested with the Hall Grove keeper making numerous saves and was probably the man of the match. In both the games we contested the ball with much more heart and effort and there were occasions when we played some really good hockey. We still need to think about passing the ball wider and into space. It is quite simple the ball can not pass through people so they must not try to make it do so. They must move their feet and pass as early as possible. This is a team game and the team that plays as a team will win.
Ross Yates was outstanding today, working hard up and down the pitch, and he was well supported by Rudy Singh, Jack Rhodes and Robert Phillips especially, but everyone did well during the afternoon. Oscar again helped us to keep a clean sheet.
So, a positive way to finish the season. Now for the gentleman's game and the summer term!
Thank you to all those who worked hard to improve this term - I hope that you have enjoyed all the hard work - it is worthwhile!

Eagle House 0 St Andrew's 0
Thank you once again to St Andrew's for bringing a team to make a game of this extra fixture and thank you to their Umpire and players for
playing the game as it should be played to the benefit of all those on the pitch. This was a fair result, a win for either side would have be unkind for the opposition.
We have now had four practices this term and at last there were signs of some understanding of how to play this game. Jack Rhodes and Ross Yates clearly had
listened to the coaching and worked tirelessly around the pitch. They were supported admirably by Robert Phillips and Saran Brar at the back who were
much more technically solid. Rudy singh was another who showed well today, running hard and working hard in both attack and defence, a vast improvement from him.
The others also showed glimpses of better skill, but too often they were caught with the ball or just gave it away and then sat back and watched. Oscar saved two
certain goals and we could/should have scored a couple.
A better game altogether, and it was pleasing to see that when we are allowed time on the pitches it can be beneficial. So well done, and if we have another practice,
let's build upon this improvement positively.
Parkside D 2 Eagle House C 0
Firstly and most importantly, many thanks to Parkside for putting out a side that was commensurate with our ability.
The game was a bit of a shambles as it was only played twelve minutes each way - a long way to go for such a short game, but it was much more competitive
with the main difference being that when Parkside got into our D, they scored, whereas we only had one shot on goal despite two short corners
and seven times in their D. A simple message there then!
There was a vast improvement in some of our stick work and control despite the fact that we have only had one training session since the last match. Jack Rhodes
stood out because he did what he had been told. He moved his feet, stopped the ball perfectly and passed it on. Ross Yates and Aman Ale also showed good improvement,
but too often the team just hit the ball up the middle rather than pass the ball square and wide.
This was much more of a game between two evenly matched sides, and it was actually fun to watch. It is such a shame that we were not able to play the full time.
Eagle House C 0 Caldicott 7
This was a rather disappointing and a very much one-sided first outing, as we were outplayed in most areas. Caldicott had good basic skills and ran to the ball, moving
it around with comparative ease. Too often we stood and watched, and when we had possession we just aimlessly pushed it back to the opposition. Oscar Turton did his
best in goal, a brave first ever outing defending our line, and Robin Vonchek worked tirelessly in central defence, clearing the ball time after time sensibly to the sides.
A few others showed little pieces of skill, but then lost the ball, rather than pass it to the wider players.
There is much that we must improve in basic technique. We have to run, we have to have our sticks on the ground, we have to work for each other, we have to learn
how to stop the ball, bring it under control and then release it positively......
The second half was a little better and we even had a shot on goal as we passed the ball to our players and worked from our half to the other end.
