Top scorer: Isaac Herring (9 goals)

What a fantastic season! We have remained unbeaten, scored a great number of goals and played some excellent hockey. I have really enjoyed working with this group of boys and I look forward to coaching some of them again next year. Many congratulations to all!

Match 9 - Wednesday, 12th March

Colts B v Highfield: Drew 2-2 (Isaac Herring, Thor Winkler)

The match was played on a choppy grass pitch in blustery conditions. It was certainly a game of two halves! We had much the better of the first half, with Isaac Herring and Thor Winkler scoring to make it 2-0 at half-time. Highfield were a different opposition in the second half and they scored from a short corner. This made us nervous and our play became rather disorganised. When Highfield scored an excellent goal to equalise it set up a nail-biting last eight minutes. Luckily we regained our composure and started to play with confidence again and we held on for the draw. An exciting end to a thrilling season - unbeaten!

Colts B VII @ Dragon Tournament

Match 1 v Magdalen College 4: Won 1-0 (Isaac Herring)

Match 2 v Dragon 4: Won 3-0 (Isaac Herring, Richard Morgan, Thor Winkler)

Match 3 v Dragon 2: Drew 0-0

Match 4 v Magdalen College 1: Lost 0-5

Match 6 v Dragon 6: Won 2-0 (Elliott Hunt, Hamza Rubbani)

Match 7 v Winchester House 1: Drew 0-0

Match 8 v New College 1: Lost 0-1

This was an enjoyable day out and our overall record was very pleasing. Each match lasted seven minutes and there was only a brief interval before the next one. We deserved our four victories and the two drawn games were exciting. We were completely out-played by Magdalen College 1, who were the eventual winners of the tournament. We were unlucky to lose our last match, as New College 1 scored from a short corner with the last play of the game. A special mention must go to Richard Morgan who played well as goalkeeper in the last four matches.

Match 8 - Wednesday, 27th February

Colts B v Edgeborough: Won 7-0 (Zeus Sekwalor 2, Patrick Dow 2, Hamza Rubbani, Isaac Herring, Elliott Hunt)

The match was played on the Wellington Old Astro. Edgeborough had only just started their hockey season and they were completely out-classed. We pushed forward into their 'D' from the outset and Zeus Sekwalor scored. Hamza Rubbani soon made it 2-0 with perhaps the goal of the season so far. He picked up the ball inside our half and dribbled past several Edgeborough players and their keeper to score. Elliott Hunt, Patrick Dow and Zeus also scored to make it 5-0 at half-time. We scored two more goals in the second half, through Isaac Herring and Patrick. Edgeborough only visited our 'D' once in the whole game and Connor Kent-Payne in goal had nothing to do! Another fantastic result and the unbeaten express continues - our next and final stop, Highfield!

Match 7 - Wednesday, 13th February

Colts B v St Piran's: Won 4-0 (Patrick Dow 2, Elliott Hunt 2)

The match was played on the Wellington Old Astro. We were up against an inexperienced St Piran's side and we threatened their 'D' from the outset. We had five attempts at goal in the first five minutes, but were unable to score. The game progressed and St Piran's defended bravely and it took a short corner just before half-time to break the deadlock, with Patrick Dow scoring. In the second half we had control of the game and we scored three more goals. Patrick deflected a free hit into the goal to score his second and Elliott Hunt scored twice from good team play. Another win notched up and the continuation of our unbeaten run.

Match 6 - Saturday, 9th February

Colts B v Cranleigh: Won 5-0 (Zeus Sekwalor 2, Adam Bailey, Thor Winkler, Patrick Dow)

The match was played on Main Field. After the ups and downs of Wednesday's match, it was normal service resumed. Playing hockey on grass is not easy, but we quickly got into our stride and scored through Adam Bailey. Cranleigh were not a bad side and they won a couple of short corners, but they could not break down our defence. Once Zeus Sekwalor scored an excellent goal it was game over and we proceded to blow Cranleigh away with some fantastic team play. Patrick Dow finished off a great move into the Cranleigh 'D', Thor Winkler scored from a similar move and Zeus smashed in his second goal from the edge of the 'D'. Another fantastic result - our hockey continues to go from strength to strength and the unbeaten run continues!

Match 5 - Wednesday, 6th February

Colts B v Hoe Bridge: Drew 4-4 (Isaac Herring 2, Thor Winkler, Adam Bailey)

The match was played on Astro at Hoe Bridge. With ten minutes to go we were at 1-4 and staring our first defeat in the face. We had conceded an unnecessary early goal, but managed to equalise through Thor Winkler. From that moment on we found it difficult to gain any momentum and the narrow pitch prevented us from fully utilising our wingers. Hoe Bridge proved to be a useful hockey team and they had a couple of big defenders who cleared our attempts at goal. They scored twice more through our poor defending and goalkeeping to make the half-time score 1-3. I told the boys not to give up and to try to play the second half as I knew we could, but we conceded another goal. Then, finally, we 'clicked' and completely transformed ourselves. Isaac Herring scored two almost identical goals from close range and also heroically prevented Hoe Bridge from scoring another goal. It was now 1-3 and Hoe Bridge looked demoralised. We continued to fight for every ball and Adam Bailey scored the equalizer with the final play of the match. It does not get more exciting than that! Our unbeaten run continues, but this time luck was on our side.

Match 4 - Saturday, 2nd February

Colts B VII v Dragon: Won 8-1 (Adam Bailey 3, Oliver Cook 2, Elliott Hunt, Thor Winkler, Richard Morgan)

The match was played on the All Weather. Dragon brought a team of Year 5 boys and we were by far the better side. We were 4-0 up within five minutes, with Adam Bailey scoring a hat-trick and Oliver Cook also scoring. It was one way traffic in terms of possession and Oliver again and Elliott Hunt scored to make it 6-0 at half-time. Dragon scored a consolation goal early in the second half - the first goal we have conceded in 120 minutes of hockey! - before we picked up our momentum again. Thor Winkler and Richard Morgan scored to make it 8-1 and the final score could have been even higher if we had converted all our chances. A fantastic result - well done everybody!

Match 3 - Wednesday, 30th January

Colts B v Parkside: Won 2-0 (Isaac Herring, Thor Winkler)

The match was played on the All Weather. Parkside are usually our strongest opposition and like us they had won their first two matches. They began strongly and showed their skill with a couple of runs into our 'D', but our defence was sound and we kept them at bay. As the first half progressed we began to get into our rhythm and we put pressure on our opposition. We won a short corner and Thor Winkler scored an excellent goal which the keeper stood no chance of saving. Parkside tried to equalise and were denied by our '12th man' - the upright! The score was 1-0 at half-time and we sensed a famous victory was near. The expected Parkside onslaught in the second half did not happen and we dictated the flow of the game. We defended well when Parkside had a couple of short corners and we were able to score again through the reliable Isaac Herring, although his goal was aided by the Parkside keeper's ill-fitting kicker. We almost scored again in the dying seconds, but 2-0 is a most satisfying result. I am extremely pleased with our win and the way the team played. Our tactical awareness is improving every game we play and it was good to see communication between the players. After three games we are yet to concede a goal - long may it continue!

Match 2 - Wednesday, 23rd January

Colts B IX v Caldicott: Won 4-0 (Isaac Herring 2, Elliott Hunt, Patrick Dow)

The match was played on Astro at Slough Hockey Club. We were by far the better side and we attacked the Caldicott 'D' from the start, Elliott Hunt scoring an early goal. We had most of the possession and scored again through Isaac Herring and Patrick Dow to make it 3-0 at half-time. In the second half Caldicott came into the game more and they had a few shots at goal, but nothing to trouble Max Chawner-Davis. Caldicott also defended much better, in particular one valiant boy who kept out four close-range shots. As in the last match Isaac scored again in the dying seconds to make it 4-0. Another excellent result, but it will not be so easy against Parkside next week!

Match 1 - Wednesday, 16th January

Colts B v St Andrew's, Woking: Won 5-0 (Isaac Herring 2, Adam Bailey, Patrick Dow, Hamza Rubbani)

What a way to start the season! The match was played on the Wellington Old Astro. We put pressure on the opposition 'D' from the start and Adam Bailey quickly scored a goal. We continued to apply pressure and Elliott Hunt came close to scoring, only for the ball to hit the post. We had a couple of short corners and Isaac Herring scored to make the half-time score 2-0. We continued where we left off after half time, with Adam Robinson playing some very skilful hockey. Patrick Dow finished off another great move to score. St Andrew's had a couple of ventures into our 'D', but they could not break down our defence. We quickly scored another goal through Hamza Rubbani and we continued to apply pressure right to the end, with Isaac scoring again with the last move of the match to make it 5-0. Most of the match was played in the St Andrew's half and we had about ten scoring chances in total. The team played with skill, determination and enjoyment. Hopefully this victory will be the inspiration for a successful season.
