COLTS B SEASON SUMMARY:
PLAYED 6, WON 3, DRAWN 1, LOST 2, GOALS FOR 14, GOALS AGAINST 5
A 'winning season', as the Americans say. I have enjoyed coaching the boys this term and I have been impressed by their attitude and commitment. I look forward to coaching many of the squad next year.

Colts B v Highfield: LOST 0-2
The match was played on a sloping grass pitch. We conceded an early goal through poor defending and it took us time to get into the game. In the exciting second half we laid seige to the Highfield goal but we were unable to score, even when their goakeeper was outsde his own 'D'! Highfield scored again five minutes before the end and the match was effectively over. We played well and had four scoring chances overall but, as at Highfield two seasons ago, our good performances on Astro were undone on grass.
The team: Dominic Hill (GK); Toby Barnard; Harry Gaff (c); Patrick Dow; Richard Morgan; William Rasmussen; George Arnold-Wallinger; Jamie O'Kelly; Isaac Herring; Reece Williams; Oliver Trapnell.

Colts B 7-a-side tournament at Dragon School: PLAYED 4, WON 0, DRAWN 2, LOST 2
We did not progress beyond the pool stage.
We were in Pool A of the competition, playing on Astro. Each match was 10 minutes one way.
Our first match was against Dragon A. Obviously, they were used to the quick surface and they scored an early goal. In 7-a-side hockey the games are always very fast, but because defenders have less space to cover it is often hard to score, as we found out. We LOST 0-1.
Our second match was against Magdalen College School, who were the strongest team in our pool. We were outplayed and we LOST 0-3.
Our third match was against Dragon C. The match was exciting and both teams had their chances to score, but for some resolute goalkeeping. A 0-0 DRAW and our first point of the afternoon.
Our last match was against Winchester House B. Once again, both teams had their chances to score, but the match ended in a 0-0 DRAW and we picked up our second point.
We improved over the course of the afternoon and, had we faced the same opposition in reverse order, we may have progressed further in the tournament.
The squad: Dominic Hill (GK); Harry Gaff (c); William Beedham; William Rasmussen; George Arnold-Wallinger; Eoin O'Kane; Reece Williams; Conor Dickinson; Elliott Hunt.

Colts B v Edgeborough: Unfortunately cancelled due to waterlogged pitch

Colts B v Aldro: WON 8-0 (Reece Williams 4, Eoin O'Kane 3, Jamie O'Kelly)
The match was played on the familiar old Wellington Astro. We were up against an Aldro side who had only played hockey for a couple of days and their inexperience showed from the start. Eoin O'Kane scored an early goal, aided by George Arnold-Wallinger and Reece Williams. Jamie O'Kelly, in his best performance so far, scored the second goal from just within the Aldro 'D'. Reece Williams scored four excellent goals, including a penalty and Eoin O'Kane scored twice more to bag a hat-trick. Our defence had little to do the entire game and Dominic Hill did not have a single save to make. I look forward to next week's match at Edgeborough.
The team: Dominic Hill (GK); Toby Barnard; Harry Gaff (c); Patrick Dow; Richard Morgan; William Rasmussen; George Arnold-Wallinger; Eoin O'Kane; Isaac Herring; Reece Williams; Jamie O'Kelly; Jonathan Baldry.

Colts B v Hoe Bridge: WON 2-1 (Isaac Herring, Reece Williams)
Once again we played on the Goldsworth Park Astro. We began very promisingly, pinning Hoe Bridge in their 'D' for a succession of penalty corners. We should have scored at least three goals, if only for some excellent goalkeeping from Hoe Bridge and we had one shot cleared off the line! Just before half time Hoe Bridge came back into the game and we conceded a goal through what Alan Hansen would describe as "sloppy defending". After the break we found our composure again and Isaac Herring scored a goal through open play. We had a few more penalty corners, with Reece Williams scoring just before the end. Hoe Bridge beat us last year and were worthy opponents today, so our win was very pleasing.
The team: Dominic Hill (GK); Jamie O'Kelly; Harry Gaff (c); Patrick Dow; Richard Morgan; William Rasmussen; George Arnold-Wallinger; Eoin O'Kane; Hamza Rubbani; Isaac Herring; Reece Williams; Toby Barnard.

Colts B v Cranleigh: WON 3-0 (Reece Williams 2, Eoin O'Kane)
The match was played on the quick, but rather worn Sandhurst Astro. We had most of the possession and we scored three excellent goals, two from Reece Williams and one from Eoin O'Kane. Both boys had previously played for the Colts A team and their performances reflected this. Cranleigh did have a few visits to our 'D', but they did not really come close to scoring. A well-deserved win and a good team performance, but in the next game we must utilise our wide players more.
The team: Dominic Hill (GK); Patrick Dow; Harry Gaff (c); Oliver Trapnell; Richard Morgan; William Rasmussen; George Arnold-Wallinger; Jamie O'Kelly; Hamza Rubbani; Eoin O'Kane; Reece Williams; Toby Barnard.

Colts B v Parkside: LOST 1-2 (George Arnold-Wallinger)
The match was played on the new Wellington Astro, affectionately known as 'The Beach'. As usual, Parkside were a physical and skilful team and they had most of the possession. We conceded a soft goal in the first half, but some resolute defending in our 'D' kept us in the game. We conceded another goal early in the second half, but in the dying seconds of the game George Arnold-Wallinger scored to salvage some pride. If I remember correctly we lost 4-1 to Parkside last year, so I am happy with this result. The new recruit to the team, Toby Barnard, played an active role in the game and I was also impressed by Adam Dewes and William Rasmussen, who captained the side in the absence of Harry Gaff.
The team: Dominic Hill (GK); Patrick Dow; Oliver Trapnell; Richard Morgan; William Rasmussen (c); George Arnold-Wallinger; Jamie O'Kelly; Hamza Rubbani; Isaac Herring; Adam Dewes; Jonathan Baldry; Toby Barnard.

Colts B v St. Andrew's, Woking: 0-0 DRAW
We began the season with a draw against a competitive St Andrew's side. We played this match on the Goldsworth Park Astro, which was a large pitch with a quick surface. We had few chances to score in the first half, but some strong defending kept us at bay. In the second half, the match was memorable from a geography perspective(!), as the heavens opened and we bore the brunt of a heavy downpour. This made the surface rather slippery and disrupted our momentum. We visited the opposition 'D' about five times, but were unable to score. Nevertheless, a pleasing result.
Man of the match: William Rasmussen.
The team: Dominic Hill (GK); Patrick Dow; Harry Gaff (c); Oliver Trapnell; George Arnold--Wallinger; William Rasmussen; Jamie O'Kelly; Jonathan Baldry; Hamza Rubbani; Isaac Herring; Adam Dewes.
