Versus Hoe Bridge Wednesday 6th February at Wellington New Astro at 2:30pm Lost 0-2 Team: Josh Blosse; Oliver Trapnell; James Chapman (Capt);Michael Dennison; Max Medlock; Felix Medlock; Sean McCarten; Robert Trapnell; Huw Braithwaite; Theo Singh; Billy Dovey. Subs:Afolarin Shashore; Phat Yoovidhya The problem with the 4th X1 hockey season is that if you blink, you will miss it. Our one and only fixture has now been played. In theory we had 5 weeks to prepare for this great occasion, but in practice our weekly hockey sessions on Main field were often cancelled due to the weather. Hence the team that took to the fine astro surface at Wellington were neither used to the surface or to playing with each other. This showed throughout the first half as Hoe Bridge dominated and we were very fortunate only to be one goal down at half-time. This was due to poor finishing on the part of the opposition and some good goal keeping from Josh Blosse, while their keeper was not called upon at all as we rarely ventured into opposition territory. The second half was much more evenly contested, even though Hoe Bridge increased their lead.We came close to scoring and really tested their defence on several occasions. The whole team gave of their best, but praise must go in particular to James Chapman and Sean McCarten who showed great committment and skill. The team enjoyed the game (and the match tea!). It was a very worthwhile experience as many of these boys rarely if ever make the Third teams of rugby, football and cricket and so enjoyed representing the school Fourth team in this one off match.
