Wednesday 15th March v St. Mary's
Drew 0-0
Player of the Match - Isabelle Edwards (GK) Year 5!
Wednesday 10th November
v Leighton Park
Drew first game 0 - 0 on one pitch and Won 6 - 0 on 2nd pitch
Won 4 - 0 2nd game
Team: Octavia Medlock, Ella Samuels, Sasha Bogdanenko, Sarah Chapman, Lana Milner ©, Henrietta Bull and Cressida Bass
Well done today girls, even though it was all a bit of a muddle. For the first 15 minutes we had to mix our 1sts with our 4ths so that we gave Leighton Park more of an even game. However we still proved to be too strong on one pitch and won 6 - 0.
We switched everything back for the 2nd half and now had our full team playing - and you were brilliant! There was a lot of good stick work and lots of passes were made after you looked up, rather than in previous games where you have just whacked it up the pitch. Sasha never gave up chasing every ball, Cressida was always in support on the right wing and Ella did a fab job in defending, not letting Leigton Park have a go at goal.
Goal scorers - Cressida 1, Lana 2 and well done Octavia - 1
Wednesday 3rd November v Holme Grange
Lost 3-2
Maria (2)
Player of the Match: Clare Chummun
Special Mention: Maria Eizaguirre
“Clare was awesome”
“We need to go to their weaker side”
“We need more people to in the attacking D to score more goals”
“Miriam was a great defender”
“Tianna never gave up”
These comments that came from the girls at the post match discussion just about sum up the game nicely. The play was very even in that the ball travelled many miles up and down the pitch before a goal was scored. Holme Grange were more confident with their stick skills but we allowed them to take the ball off us by taking it straight to their strong side. This was a shame as it was something that we had practised and reinforced just before going onto the pitch. There was far more evidence of drive and determination in our attack, especially Maria who was terrier-like in her will to get through the competent HG defenders. The opposition put the pressure onto our defenders during the first 10 minutes, the ball was constantly heading towards our D but Clare(GK) put up a magnificent effort keeping the ball out of the goal. Inevitably with this onslaught there came an intelligent goal from their striker into the corner. Our first goal came off a great cross pass by Elisa, Lana struck it in but the GK sent to towards Maria who neatly popped it past her into the goal. HG came back quickly with some great play by their CM and RW but again our defence Ella and Miriam came in strongly and got the ball away. Maria picked up one of these balls and broke away, dribbling into the D as her support was well marked. With a couple of nifty manoeuvres, she had scored her second goal of the match.
We went into the second half 2-2 but even with several attempts from Lana and Tianna, we couldn’t get our ball on target. HG kept up the pressure and finished the game off with a magnificent goal but were still put under pressure from our defenders with Miriam displaying good stick skills to get the ball around the attack and up the wing to Elisa. Tianna also dropped back on several occasions to assist the defenders..
There is such an improvement in this team , I am very proud of the way in which they are starting to play – a long way to go but we are moving in the right direction. Well done everyone!
Saturday 2nd October v St. George's College, Weybridge
Lost 5-2
(Lana 1, Octavia 1)
Player of the Match: Lane Milner
The 4th’s seemed pretty downhearted when realising that they would be without their goalkeeper for this tough match. Fortunately Henrietta stepped up with a smile and volunteered to get kitted up and have a go.
From the onset, the opposition were afar more experienced side and dictated the game. To our credit EH, began to move the ball out to the wing but continually came across a wall of defence who managed to take the ball quite easily from us and start an onslaught towards our goal. Henrietta put a good fight and seemed to enjoy rushing onto the ball and getting some good clearance away from the D. Yana and Miriam worked together to help the GK but must remember to keep sticks down and go towards the oncoming ball.
Sasha was a determined force in the centre and with drive and enthusiasm cleared the ball through to Lana, after a couple of good attempts the ball hit the target and Lana had scored. Half time score was 3-1
The second half started with a change of position; Sasha out on the wing and Cressida as CM. The forwards began to back up their striker and have more of a presence in the D. We gained three short corners and finally managed to put one on target with a good push from Lana and then helped on its way by Octavia.
Lana was justly picked as opposition player of the match but she needs help and support from her forwards to get the ball firmly in the back of the goal. Henrietta did a fantastic job as GK, well done!
Tuesday 28th September V St Mary's
Won 1 - 0
St Mary's Player of the match - Sasha Bogdanenko
Coaches Player of the Match - Ella Samuels
Team: Octavia Medlock, Ella Samuels, Sasha Bogdanenko, Sarah Chapman, Lana Milner ©, Henrietta Bull, Yana Volchek and Cressida Bass
A fabulous win girls - well done! Lots of great movement around the pitch, and you all started to look up before you hit the ball away, so that it actually ended up going to one of our players instead of the opposition.
Ella was simply brilliant in defence and made sure that St Mary's didn't have a chance to have 1 shot at goal, which meant Sarah's job at goalkeeper, this week, was very very easy.
A pointer to remember is that you must try and use the whole pitch, I would say that 95% of the match was played in a 5 m width strip of the pitch running through the middle, and the ball very rarely moved anywhere near the two sidelines. If you are playing a Wing position you must call for the ball so that it gets pushed out to you, try not to get pulled in to someone else's position.
Wednesday 15th September v Cranleigh
Lost 3-1
Player of the match: Ella Samuels
Team: Octavia Medlock, Ella Samuels, Elisa Anguiano, Sarah Chapman, Lana Milner ©, Henrietta Bull, Yana Volchek and Cressida Bass
1st game of the season and 1st game of hockey for some of the new girls to the team. Unfortunately the girls had a slow start but as the game continued the girls pushed on and began working as a team.
Cranleigh were a tough side, they were much stronger in their ball skills which built up their attack leaving Ella and Yana trying their best in defence to beat off the goals. Sarah showed confidence in her defence in goal saving many shots by Cranleigh, however Cranleigh escaped the first half with 2 goals and Eagle House on 0.
Second half Eagle House came back stronger on their attack. Henrietta, Lana and Elisa had a greater percentage of the ball possession in the second half showing their overall stick movement and ball control. Octavia and Elisa showed promise on the wings in both attack and defence.
Yana and Ella were quick in their defence as well as Sarah with Cranleigh pushing the girls kept strong, letting in only one great goal by the opposition. 1 minute left on the clock, Eagle House confident they can get a goal. Elisa pushing the defence back and shoots an amazing goal to end the girls first match of the season.
The girls showed much promise as a team but have a lot to work on in the ball control. Good Luck girls for future matches.
