Wednesday 12th March

v Highfield (Away)

Lost 2 - 3

A competitive game played on a terrible grass (football) pitch. Highfield who were more used to the conditions competed well trying to pass the ball as opposed to our hit (too often mis-hit) and hope approach. Highfield took a desrvedlead through some poor defending. We equalised from a well taken short corner. Alex Heyre stopping the ball well before slamming it into the Highfield goal.

We went further behind after a quick Highfield break before scrambling another equalizer. I dont't know who scored but with fouls being committed by both teams almost every second is was difficult to blow the whistle so let the game continue playing advantage which luckily for us ended eith the ball in the goal. Sorry Highfield!

Highfield scored the winner which on balance they probably deserved. The Final whistle went bringing a fun and entertaining hockey season to an end.

I hope you all enjoyed it.

Wednesday 6th February

v Hoe Bridge (Home)

Lost 0 - 3

A disappointing loss but a fair reflection of the game in terms of territory and possession. Hoe Bridge played well with greater energy and determination and when we did put some good passing moves into play too often the ball was given away tamely. We had to defend well playing into the sun in the first half. Thomas Surrall and Alex Mitchell tackled well and Richard Bishop made several excellent saves. We failed to move the ball to the wide right and generally needed too much time to make our passes effective. Few players seemed able to hit the ball with any power and our attacking forwards had little to do. Hoe Bridge scored goals late in the half to lead at half-time.

The second half was similar although we did get into the final third of the field more often and Alex Heyre had a shot saved. George Williams missed a penalty stroke after Hoe Bridge had taken a decisive 3 - 0 lead.

It was a disappointing result but a good game in which the skill level has clearly improved from the win over Parkside.

Wednesday 30th January

v Parkside (Home) 3.00pm

WON 2 - 0

A good win set up by an excellent first half performance. We moved the ball quickly from defence to attack making good use of the open spaces. Alex Heyre scored the first goal after some good passing and George Williams came off the subs bench to finish off another good attacking move.

The many substitutions eventually disrupted our formation, and in the second half we defended too deep giving up the middle of the field so we found it hard to break out of defence. Credit to Parkside who played with greater confidence and determination but this only brought out the best in our defence with Daniel Rayner making good saves when needed.

In the last few minutes we pushed forward winning 2 short corners and finished the game on top agaian. A good win but still much to improve and build on. Well done to the whole team.

Wednesday 23rd January

v Caldicott (Away)

3rd VII LOST 2 -4

4TH VII LOST 0 -4

Both teams worked very hard and played well despite losing.  All the players learnt a lot about positional play and using the wings.  Our downfall was due to a lack of help in defence and playing against teams with a lot more experience of playing off the sideboards and on a smaller pitch.

Richard Bishop was excellent in goal for both teams, while Alex Mitchell, Johnny Baldry, Joab Phillips and Tom Surrall were the pick of our players.
