The wet conditions meant that the game was switched from grass to a small all weather surface. We struggled for most of the first half as players tended to bunch together and passes were hit with more hope than accuracy. Nevertheless one of these hopeful hits found Sam Auger unmarked in the opposition D and he made the most of the opportunity giving Eagle House the lead against the run of play. Good defence kept out the opposition until just before half-time when they equalised. The second half saw much better hockey from Eagle House as the team adapted better to the pitch size and though both teams had their chances, there was no change to the score.

This was an excellent start to the season, considering that only one short practice had been held this term and that had largely been devoted to team selection. This meant that the team had never played together before and so took a while to settle down against a spirited and committed St Andrews team. We did manage 2 good goals before half-time, followed by a third early in the second half but a combination of missed chances and good goalkeeping denied Eagle House any further additions to the score. However in the last 6 minutes of the game, the team really clicked into gear and were able to double the score.
