Wednesday 5 December vs Aldro
On a pitch that was far more suited for a rugby match, we prepared for our last game of the season. Unfortunately we didn’t really get going and were 2-0 down a quarter of the way into the game. The Aldro team looked far more willing to play in the sodden and cold conditions and the boys were battling to get to grips with the conditions. Our slick passing game wasn’t working on the muddy surface and the long ball became our weapon of choice. Another good Aldro move led to their third goal and not long after that they scored another. H-T 0-4
The stern chat we had at half time seemed to do the trick, as everyone got stuck in straight from the whistle. Our tenacity paid off as we got two quick goals, one by Hassan and the other by Lucas. We looked like a completely different team as crunching tackles were flying in and we were being very careful to keep possession of the ball. Unfortunately Aldro struck again, against the run of play. We fought back hard with Ben and Alvaro winning us good ball in the midfield and Harry, Michael and Max nullifying the threat at the other end. In the end however we left it a little too late and Aldro deservedly took the game. F-T 7-3
Wednesday 28 November vs Daneshill
We were brimming with confidence and eager to get cracking in our game against Daneshill. The game started at a frantic pace with both teams trying to gain the upper-hand. It was Daneshill who took the early initiative with two very well taken goals that poor Max Hammond had no chance with. We fought back fiercely and pulled back a goal, a great strike by our goal-scoring machine Hassan. Lucas, Ben and Alvaro were gaining ascendancy in the midfield and there were some lovely touches which led to our second goal, scored again by Hassan. The half-time whistle sounded and with that a welcome break for both sets of players. H-T 2-2
We quickly took control of the second half with a great strike from Ben. Michael and Harry were playing their hearts out at the back and it took a moment of brilliance from the Daneshill striker to put things all square again. The battle commenced and with two minutes left on the clock Daneshill grabbed what they thought was the winner. A slight lack of concentration let their striker in at the back and he struck a brilliant shot which left Max absolutely helpless to stop it.
With time running out we through everything into attack and we managed to grab an equalizer with seconds to square. Lucas was put into space and deftly took his opportunity, blasting his shot past their keeper. A draw in the end but this was definitely one of the most entertaining games I have had the privilege to see. F-T 4-4
Saturday 24 November vs Sunningdale
We trained hard on Friday and were all looking forward to a vastly improved performance against Sunningdale. We started very well and took control early in the game. Goals from Hassan Rubbani and Ben Barnard put us 2-0 up early in the game. Alvaro Rivas and Lucas Bamber were in total control of the midfield and with Oscar Turton and Michael Gimson being very miserly at the back, Sunningdale were in for a tough afternoon. Hassan added another before half-time to put us firmly in the driving seat going into the break. H-T 3-0
The second half kicked off and we immediately resumed our domination of the game. Sunningdale had very little answer to what we threw at them and Hassan added another before Lucas got himself on the score sheet. Max was superb in goal, stopping everything that came his way. Sunningdale did manage a break away and scored a rather dubious goal, it was plain for everyone but the referee to see that the ball had crossed the line for a goal kick before their striker pulled it back to score. (Sorry guys-my mistake). Hassan managed to grab his hat-trick before the whistle and we finished the game convincing winners. F-T 6-1
Wednesday 21 November vs Cranleigh
The football season kicked off amid great excitement, and we were all looking forward to taking on Cranleigh. Unfortunately injury and illness robbed us of some key players and we knew we were going to be up against it from the start.
The game kicked off and we went a goal behind in the 2nd minute. Unfortunately there was no comeback from this as the technically astute Cranleigh launched constant attacks on our goal. Only some excellent defending and great goal-keeping kept us in the game. The half–time whistle was a relief for the boys and myself, as it gave us a chance to take stock and get ready for the second half. H-T 0-3.
The second half started much the same as the first with Cranleigh scoring early. I must give credit to the boys because their heads never dropped and we fought back bravely. Lucas Bamber opened our account with a sweetly taken goal after some excellent work in the midfield from Ben Barnard and Alvaro Rivas. Credit must also go to Michael Gimson and Oscar Turton at the back who had a very busy afternoon. Max Hammond in goal saved many a shot and Hassan Rubbani tore tirelessly around the field. However Cranleigh were just too good for us on the day.
F-T 1-7
