 Match 4

Wednesday 5th December v Aldro

Aldro 3

Eagle House 3

This was a very exciting game with which to conclude the season. The score reflects a true picture of a balanced game. Whereas Aldro played the better football with good passing and positional play, Eagle House matched them with 100% commitment.   For long periods Aldro were able to pin Eagle House back into their own half., especially in the latter part of the second half. What breakout and chances came, Eagle House were able to make good use of them.

An early mistake by the defence of Eagle House led to Aldro opening the scoring, early in the first half. Nevertheless Eagle House remained confident and close to half time a curious kick by Justin Parvess from just outside Eagle House penalty box landed just inside the other box goal bound which Huw Braithwaite was able to put beyond the goal keeper.

An unfortunately hand ball in the penalty box enabled Huw to score his second early in the second half thus giving Eagle House the lead for the first and only time in the match. Good pressure and commitment from Aldro led to them retaking the lead with their second and third goal. Their second strike was very good indeed but their third goal was due to sloop defending.  The last ten minutes or so saw Aldro pressing forward time and time again to score their fourth and definite match winning goal. Eagle House had to survive a barrage of corner after corner. In some doing, Aldro left their defence weakened.  In the dying minutes Eagle House were finally able to breakout. A corner and then a throw in followed, from which Huw was able to score his third goal and thereby drew the game.

 Match 3

Saturday 24th November v Sunningdale, away

Sunningdale 0

Eagle House 7

After the disappointment midweek, a revitalised Eagle House team took the field and began the match immediately demonstrating their intent. Michael Wright, Eagle House, tackled the Sunningdale forwards straight away at kick off, dibbled on his own up the field to score within the first 30 seconds. The pressure was maintained through out the first half with Huw Braithwaite adding a further three goals and Michael Wright scoring his second. The back four remained solid with nothing getting passed them. In the second half a more up beat Sunningdale began to put pressure on Eagle House trying to open up the cracks at the back to exploit any possible opening. In this half Thomas Surrall opened up his open score sheet with two well taken goals, though Eagle House now had to work harder now to score.

This was a better game with more secure and accurate passing, better use of the width and a killer instinct up front now beginning to show itself. There were instances of some good football being played as team began to work as one.  Overall an enjoyable and encouraging match.

Team. Thomas Inglis ( Captain), Sean Neat, Michael Dennison, Mathew FitzJames, Jonathan Baldry, Huw Braithwaite, Harry Gaff, Robert Hwang, Thomas Surrall, Michael Wright, Sean McCarten, Joab Phillips

 Match Two

Wednesday 21st November  v Cranleigh, away

Cranleigh 2

Eagle House 0

The second match was quite an entertaining match with both sides having chances to attack and being forced to defend.  The first half was a stalemate with neither side dominating the game. Though in the early part of the second half Eagle House conceded a goal, it looked as though they themselves would also score their opening goal. This was not to be as Cranleigh scored their second in the last quarter of the game. It was a well deserved victory by Cranleigh who at times played the better and more thoughtful football.

Match One

Wednesday 14th November 2007 v The Pilgrims School, Winchester, away.

The Pilgrims school 2

Eagle House School 2

This was a good match to begin the season. Though Eagle House dominated the first 15 minutes, they were not able to score. They did not take their chances as they came. The Pilgrims School with their match experience were able to weather the storm and were able to score in the final quarter of the first half. In an attempt to find an equalising goal Eagle House pushed up too far at a corner and The Pilgrims were able to score a well taken second goal on the break. In the second half a committed and slightly reorganised Eagle House took to the field and soon scored their first goal, scorer Thomas Surrall. A second by George Williams came shortly after and the rest of the match became a tense struggle as both sides aimed to get that third and winning goal. This was a goal result from a team, though lacking in skill, played with commitment and a good awareness of space and positioning on the field.

This has been a very good season for the 3rd XI football team who make up with commitment and spirit what they may lack in skill. Well done, gentleman!
