Wednesday 6th June

U9 B v Yateley Manor

We lost the toss and were put in to bat. Over the past couple of weeks we have worked hard on our calling and running between the wickets. Our aim was simple, to post a respectable score without losing those all important wickets. Saranveer and Lewis got the scoreboard moving notching up 24 runs with 2 wickets. Jelle and Ethan followed and did well to keep some good bowling out. Ben Moore and Daniel came in and played some wild shots without the connection...Daniel, you must keep your head down! Matt and Robin came to the crease and got the scoreboard moving from its temporary pause. However, our 2 Year 3 pairs came in at the end and really gave a display of how to take batting to the bowlers. Harry and Michael managed to score off 15 out of their 18 balls. There were three 4s and a crashing 6 dispatched to add 33 runs to our total. More importantly, they were not out. Ben Barnard and Brendon completed the batting line up and they also managed 33 runs with four boundaries. However, a good run out came in the last over meaning a 5 run deduction. We had put 288 runs on the board. Tight bowling and fielding would have to support this in order to achieve the result we wanted!

We got off to a good start with Ben Barnard and Lewis both taking wickets off the first pair. This was certainly needed as this pair came in very positively. Nevertheless, the fielding was good and I suspect that this unsettled the Yateley players as none of the pairs to follow took their opportunities with quick singles. Brendon, Jelle, Robin, Michael and Harry all took valuable wickets with some good bowling. More importantly, our fielders were alive in the field all afternoon, backing up and for the most part, staying focused!  Yateley could well have won this game, but 4 wickets off their last pair sealed the game, evidence of this fulltime focus!  Well done to all the players from both teams for playing some really good and entertaining cricket!

Eagle House won by 31 runs.

Wednesday 13th June

U9 B (VIII) v Horris Hill

We have worked hard on our shot selection in training sessions.  Our aim has been to minimise 'dot balls' with good placement and great running between the wickets.  This requires fantastic communication between the pairs and sure calling!  With this in mind, playing 8-aside cricket ought to mean holes in the field and therefore runs on offer.

However, we put Horris Hill in to bat and therefore we had to plug the holes that were everywhere on the field.  We remained alert in the field, supporting each other and backing up the fielding.  Our bowling was fairly tight and none of the Horris Hill pairs managed to score that elusive 'run a ball' that we were seeking.  Horris Hill did bat well and at the end of 16 overs they had managed to gain a respectable 277 runs.

We started our scoring account with a fantastic 31 runs off 24 balls. This was managed by James and Noah who set the standard with great calling and running between the wickets.  Matt, Ben, Lewis and Jelle followed, again all managing to take more than a run a ball.  Oscar and Charles managed to take a further 17 runs from their 4 overs.  We had scored 296 runs at the close from our 16 overs.  That's 96 runs from 96 balls...talk about taking things literally!  Congratulations to all the boys who really played well.  All 8 players did their bit.

Eagle House won by 19 runs.

Wednesday 27th June

U9 B (X) v Lambrook Haileybury

The last game of the season, always good to put together everything that we've learned from the numerous weeks of training.  The main focus for our batting was get the calling and running loud and clear.  Due to last minute changes in numbers, we had 2 A team players join us who will remain anonymous as they started our batting account with minus 20 runs!  This was due to absolutely suicidal running between the wickets and unfortunately it did set a pattern.  At the close of our batting account we had given away 60 runs through lost wickets.  However, Brendon and Ben B put together 17 runs as our highest scoring pair, leaving us with a total of 232 to defend.

Our bowling attack was on fire!  Adam Robinson took 3 out of the 5 wickets that we took in total.  With wickets continually falling it was hard for LH to build an innings and this was certainly the deciding factor of the game.  At the close of play LH had put on 226 runs.

Despite some shocking running between the wickets from our batsmen, we always looked as though we wanted the runs and this desire to score is certainly something to build upon for next year.  Congratulations to the team on a good win and a good season.

Eagle House won by 6 runs.
