Match v Caldicott (Home) 21st April

Caldicott 142 for 8

Eagle House 105 all out

An exciting start to the new season with a nail biting finish played in glorious sunshine. Caldicott batted first making 142 for 8. We bowled well and and fielded with energy and determinationin in spite of some sloppy lapses at key parts of the game. Cameron Henderson was the pick of the bowlers and he was rewarded for his accuracy with 2 wickets.Charlie Jobson also took 2 wickets and Edward Beedham, Oskar Winkler and Billy Dovey 1 each.

Our Innings started well with Ben Cook and Edward Beedham scoring over 30 and batting for 11 overs before the first wicket fell. Ben went on to be top scorer with 23. Wickets fell at regular intervals but the game seemed destined for a draw. With 3 overs remaining Caldicott still needed 3 wickets. Tension mounted and with careless batting we lost our last wicket and the game with just 1 ball remaining.Eagle House were 105 all out. Caldicott won by 37 runs.

An encouraging start and good that no-one was bowled. However we struggled to hit the slower bowling. We must look to play more off the back foot cutting the ball square of the wicket and pulling the ball throgh square leg and midwicket. Remember if you are playing a scoring shot hit the ball hard.

Match V Lord Wandsworth School (Away) 25th April.

Eagle House all out for 103 in 30 overs. ( T.Fowlie 37)

LWC all out for 40 in 17 overs.

This was a good performance in the end by Eagle House. LWC began their attacking bowling very well and the first four wickets tumbled very easily. The partnership of Tom Fowlie and Cameron Henderson steadied the ship before the tail finished at 103. Though LWC began their batting very well, it was not long before some aggressive bowling by Tom Fowlie and Charles Jobson brought the innings to an abrupt end. It was a very entertaining match with some good cricket being played by both sides.

Match v Highfield (Away) 28th April

Eagle House 97 for 9 in 25 overs

Highfield  98 for 8 in 22.4 overs ( C. Henderson 4 for7, E. Beedham 3 for 22)

Losing a wicket with a run out from a wide on the first ball of the match set the standard for a disappointing batting performance. Some negative bowling made runs difficult to score but even so again we failed to hit the loose delivery tending to push and prod at the ball rather than hit it. From 12 for 4 we did make a sort of recovery and 97 for 9 off our 25 overs at least gave us something to bowl at.

We bowled well again and 4 for 7 from Cameron and 3 for 22 from Edward put us in with a chance. Highfield however were always ahead of the run rate and although wickets fell at regular intervals reached our total with 2 wickets and 2 overs to spare for a deserved victory. It could have been different with an extra 20 runs or without the misfields which gave away boundaries.

We will work at showing some controlled aggression both with the bat and in the field this week.

Match v Parkside ( Away ) Wednesday 2nd May

Eagle House 55 for 9 in 34 overs

Parkside 59 for 6 in 11.4 overs ( B. Dovey 3 for19, C. Henderson 2 for14)

55 runs in 34 overs did not make for entertaining cricket!. Credit to Parkside who bowled quickly and accurateley but our inability to hit the ball off the square was frightening. Running between wickets and calling was also very poor so we created no pressure on the fielding team. Billy Dovey batted for 22 overs for a score of 8 runs. It could have been much worse but for a last wicket stand of 22 from Richard Bishop and Oskar Winkler.

We took to the field to try and salvage some pride and take something out of the game. We missed 3 simple run outs in the first 2 overs but we generally bowled well ( Billy Dovey 3 for 19, Cameron Henderson 2 for 14) and held some fine catches. We took 6 Parkside wickets before they passed our total after only 11.4 overs. What might have happened if we'd scored another 20 runs? The same story as the game against Highfield!

Match v Cranleigh (Home) Wednesday 9th May

Cranleigh 146 for 9 ( Charlie Jobson 2 for 13, Edward Beedham 2 for 20, Cameron Henderson 2 for 20)

Eagle House 76 All Out

A miserable day and a miserable fielding performance - too many byes, overthrows and extras. It was difficult bowling and fielding in the rain but we lacked energy and concentration making it too easy for the Cranleigh batsmen to pile on the runs. Towards the end we picked up a few wickets but 147 to win was always going to be too many in 25 Overs.

It was a better batting performance overall with some positive calling and running between wickets. Unfortunately no-one was able to make a big score and with wickets falling at regular intervals we were alaways behind. 2 needless run outs at the end perhaps reflected our ambition but also our lack of judgement and experience.

Match v Lugrove (Away) Saturday 12th May - cancelled due to rain

Match v Crosfields (Away) Wednesday 16th May

Eagle House 127 for 9 ( C. Jobson 45)

Crosfields 82 for 8

Probably our best performance so far this season. We batted with more confidence and control keeping the scoreboard ticking over. Good contributions from Tom Fowlie (20) and especially Charlie Jobson (45)

meant we set a decent target for Crosfields to aim at.

Crosfields started confidently moving quickly to 31 -0 but a superb catch by Alex Notley changed the game. We continued to bowl accurately taking wickets regularly( Tom Fowlie 2 for 16, Nikolai Malyguine 2 for 8)and with Crosfields 7 wickets down and still 10 overs remaining a win looked likely. For most of the game our fielding was first class but sadly 3 dropped catches towards the end allowed Crosfields to hang on for the draw.

Match v Aldro (Away) Saturday 19th May

Eagle House 64 all out

Aldro 65 for 1

Our worst performance of the season by far! Apart from some encouraging batting from Max Kirk and Nikolai Malyguine we contributed little to this game.

Match v Prospect Technical College (Away) 8th June

Berkshire U13 Plate Competition

Eagle House 101 for 9 (T. Fowlie 23)

Prospect College 39 allout (Z. Bigley 3 for 8, W. Dovey 4 for 7, E. Beedham 2 for 0)

An easy win against a raw and inexperianced college side. An OK batting display the backbone of which was a score of 23 by Tom Fowlie. We ran well between wickets but batsmen keep playing the same shots hitting the ball to the fielders at mid-on and mid-off. At times we need to get on the back foot and try to hit the ball square of the wicket. Practice rthis in the nets!

We bowled accurately picking up wickets at regular intervals and holding 6/6 catches. Zac added some pace to the attack but it was the line and length bowling of Billy and Edward that kept the runs down creating pressure leading to wickets.

Well done - a much needed win . Next Round match is v Bearwoodl - tba

Match v The Beacon (Home)- 16th June Cancelled due to rain

Match v Lambrook Haaileybury (Home) Wednesday 27th June

Eagle House 95 all out (C. Jobson 53)

Lambrook Haileybury 96 for 4 (C. Henderson 3 for 13)

A depleted team put up an admirable performance before losing by 6 wickets. Batting first Eagle House made 95 including an excellent 53 from Charlie Jobson who timed the ball well hitting some glorious boundaries.

Lambrook batted before tea and accurate bowling from Edward and Cameron  supported by good catching by Ben Cook, William Price and Felix Fowler saw the visitors slump to 17 for 3. Lambrook composed themselves and batted well against our weakened bowling attack, we eventually looked tired in the field as Lambrook passed our total with 6 wickets hand.
