Senior Wessex Athletics Championships 2009
Wednesday 10th June at The Bournemouth Athletics Centre
We took a very able set of athletes to Bournemouth for these championships and had a great day. There were many of our athletes who recorded personal bests and made the finals of their respective eventsand three, Tom Johnson, Josh Blosse and Saxon Coop performed well enough to get into the Wessex team for the Nationals at The Alexander Stadium in Birmingham on Monday 29th June.
Some of the photos show the fine efforts that our team put into the event. My apologies to those who are not depicted here - I just couldn't get around to see everyone on the track or in the field!
This was the first time we had competed at Wessex and we all agreed that the competition was of a very high standard.
30 schools were at the Wessex Regionals and so the results our pupils achieved were exceptional. The pick of our performers were:
Tom Johnson with 1st place in the U14 boys 1500m final by around 200 meters.
Josh Blosse with 1st place in U14 boys Triple Jump and 3rd in the U14 200m final.
Saxon Coop with 2nd place and a National qualifying height in the U14 boys high jump and 2nd place in the U14 boys javelin.
Charlie Waters with 2nd place in the U12 boys 1500m final.
Charlotte Earwaker with 3rd place in the U13 girls 1500m final.
Ashleigh Bishop with 3rd in the U14 girls high jump.

Eagle House Track Meeting 14th May 2009
Firstly, we would like to thank all the schools for competing and the parents for their fantastic support.
I would also like to thank all the members of staff and the pupils who helped with the organisation and running of the event. Without their help, the meeting could not have run so smoothly.
After a wonderful performance by the boys in the Caldicott athletics meeting last week, the girls were aiming to put in a good performance to match the boys....and did they just!!! All of our girls were magnificent, with 9 first places and 10 second places in 20 races.

Athletics Meeting at Caldicott 7th May 2009
6 schools were represented at Caldicott for their annual track and field meeting. We were well represented with athletes from Years 4 to 8. The afternoon, although rather chilly, was a great success and there were many highlights from our athletes.

We finished third, the best result at this meeting for a while. There were some excellent performances on the track and in the field events. The highlight was winning 3 out of 5 long jump competitions. The 1500 metres also proved an exciting race at both U12 and U14 level.
Eagle House athletes had a good season last year and it has certainly started well in 2009. The strength of the field athletes is good to see - javelin, high jump, triple jump and shot were all succesful events. The track runners also made a good impression with some fine times being recorded.

The winning long jump trio
This early meeting gives athletes a guide to the standard they need to reach when it comes to qualifying for the Nationals later in the summer. Overall a great meeting that our athletes can feel very pleased with. Next up is our track event next week.
