COLTS A V HIGHFIELD WEDNESDAY 25th JUNE
Result Draw 12 - 12
Captain Steffi won the toss at last but with Imy and Yuna missing from the team a lacklustre EH took the field. Highfield had a good team with strong batters who hit three rounders well into the outfield. Our deep fielders; Laura, Kim ,Charlotte and Rosie were quick in retrieving the ball, throwing accurately to second so stopping several half-rounders. EH managed to put out six players but not before Highfield had put five rounders on the score sheet. Our batting innings had a disastrous beginning when Charlotte, Ashleigh and Suzanne were all caught out in the first seven balls. Alex, Tanaquille and Steffi were the only players to contribute to the first innings score but EH were fortunate to gain 1½ rounders off no balls.
Highfield again hit accurately in their second innings putting another 7 rounders onto their score but some concentrated fielding from deep to Tinks at second base, saw 5 strong Highfield players put out. For many of EH is was not a good afternoon on the batting field but for the few that managed to hit the ball, they worked extremely hard. Steffi, Alex and Rosie hit some wonderful balls but it was Tanaquille who saved the day. She played intelligently, stopping at second, not risking being put out but also running on when she saw the opportunity. Her last half rounder brought the game to a draw. Well done.

COLTS A v ST. PIRAN'S WEDNESDAY 21ST MAY
RESULT EH 12 ST. P 8½
EH won the toss for the first time and put their opposition into bat. St Piran’s hit the ball well gaining half rounders quite easily ending their innings on 5. Unfortunately many of these due to our ‘butterfingers’ around 2nd base. Usually this is our safe area!
Imogen struck out well on the first ball so scoring half a rounder. My initial thoughts were that today, we are going to be determined in our batting but……….oh no!
Despite some good contact with the ball it was not until Ashleigh faced the 19th ball that she managed to add another half rounder to our score. By this time Imogen, Charlotte and Yuna had been caught and Rosie stumped on 4th base in a desperate attempt to score a full rounder. Then it was Captain Steffi’s turn to be caught out but Alex managed to hit a lovely rounder way into the outfield. Only this was followed by another catch from St. Piran’s with Tanaquille’s turn to walk off the field. The last three girls faced 7 balls with Kim adding 2 half rounders to our score. Eh finished with just 4 rounders in their first innings.
St. Piran’s faced a far more focused EH team as they played their second batting innings, catching three players out and keeping their score down to just 3 rounders, making their total 8. Again this was not a good innings for the majority of the team, St.Pirans fielded well, stopping many a hit before we could reach 2nd base. The two stars who saved the day were Tanaquille and Charlotte! With more spirited running and determination, TQ scored off every ball she faced until she was finally caught out off a lovely hit. Charlotte ended up being last batsman in which meant she had a choice of three ball. On the final ball she hit into the outfield and with great cheering from the team returned to the batting square to face another choice of three. Again on the final ball, she managed to hit another winner, with even louder cheering she faced another 3 but the team was stumped out in the batting square. It was an exciting finish to what could have been a disastrous match.

COLTS A V YATELEY MANOR WEDNESDAY 14TH MAY
RESULT EH 9½ YM 7½
This seemed like déjà vu when the girls took several balls before managing to get onto the score sheet. Accurate fielding around the diamond from YM prevented many a half rounder from what was a good hit. Finally a great strike from Charlotte way into the outfield seemed to awaken the batters and from then on we managed to put on 7 rounders in the first innings.
With EH in the field, this was a great team effort, demonstrating how off the post fielding creates more mobile players rather than the old fashioned static post game. Imogen in the diamond with Tanaquille backing up; Charlotte and Yuna fielding the long ball produced 6 girls stumped or caught in quick succession. Steffi’s accurate pass to 2nd stopped several backward hits being converted into ½ rounders.
YM stepped up their fielding in their second innings with 8 of our players being caught or stumped but not before EH had added another 2½ to their total. A score of 7 was too much a task to ask of YM with the strong fielding side of EH.
Well done girls – this was a great game to keep the crowd entertained!
Player of the match Imogen 2½ rounders 5 stumped
Coaches player Alex (Great bowling!) 2 rounders

COLTS A v DANESHILL WEDNESDAY 7TH MAY
Result: Win 10½ - 10
Ten good balls were bowled to a very nervous EH side before they made contact with the ball and finally started to score. In the first innings some accurate fielding from Daneshill kept our score to a low 4½, we were unfortunately placing the ball straight between 2nd and 3rd base. EH looked far more relaxed as they easily put the opposition out for just 18 balls with some excellent fielding from all the team but especially from Steffi ( backstop ), Charlotte (2nd deep) and Imogen (2nd Base) Laura stopped many a short hit on the outskirts of the diamond preventing a ½ rounder at 2nd.
In our 2nd innings accurate hitting and better placement of the ball added 5 whole rounders and two ½’s to our total. Daneshill were quick to field the long ball which made the chase to 4th all the more exciting! Again, quick thinking managed to bowl DH out with 5 balls to spare, but not before they had scored 6½ despite Imogen playing another superb innings.
This was a great team effort with some impressive fielding with those not making it onto the score board making worthwhile contributions on the field.
Imogen 2½, Charlotte 2, Yuna 1½, Kim 1½, Rosie 1, Alex 1, Tanaquille 1
Player of the Match – Imogen
Coaches Player – Charlotte - 3 impressive catches in the outfield!
At the end of the match Daneshill were declared winners by ½ a rounder but on further viewing of the score card, EH had narrowly won by ½! Well done!
Coach will do better next time!
