Netball High 5’s

Under 9 B’s

Eagle House v Hall Grove away

Final score: 1-1 Draw

Team: Devashri Moodley – Captain, Poppy Perry, Jasmine Cunliffe, Poorvi Kundu, Lucy Crewe, Roseanna Fernandes

Hall Grove Player of the Match: Devashri Moodley

Two very proud coaches stood on the sidelines on Thursday. Our girls really did colour themselves in glory at this away fixture from the outset as they started with the ‘fire in their bellies’ that makes all the difference to their game. They marked well and worked hard together to drive the ball forward, and I was particularly impressed with the team’s ability to find space – such a crucial part of the game that has taken a while for them to appreciate the benefit of. Particular mention must go to Poppy Perry who leapt like the proverbial gazelle and knocked several balls out of the opposition’s possession and was a tiny force to be reckoned with, Jasmine Cunliffe who had her best match to date and Lucy Crewe who worked relentlessly to get the ball down to the goal end. To be fair, the whole team worked tirelessly and cohesively and the match was a very exciting one to watch as a result.

Although the final score was a 1-1 draw (fantastic goal by Roseanna Fernandes) it really could have been ours for the taking. There is little constructive criticism to suggest, such was the quality of play, but all I would ask is for you to hold onto that fighting spirit and excellent mind-set to play netball and the wins will come!

Thank you to all parents who came to this away match to support the girls J

Netball High 5’s

Under 9 B’s

Eagle House v St Andrews away

Final score: 8-0 Lost

Team: Madeleine Crouch – Captain, Jasmine Cunliffe, Poorvi Kundu, Devashri Moodley, Lucy Crewe.

Hall Grove Player of the Match: Madeleine Crouch

In the seeringly hot late September sun, the Under 9 B’s travelled away to play against St Andrews, Pangbourne.

The girls have improved week on week since the beginning of term and playing alongside their A team peers during lessons, many of whom play club netball, they have really begun to grasp the concept and value of moving into space, travelling down the court and making strong accurate passes to each other in order to maintain possession.

Despite all of this wonderful progress made, St Andrews B team would have been well-matched against our A team, as they were strong in every respect: speed, accuracy of passes, travelling the ball down the court and really advanced in their reading of the game and amount of shots on goal.

What I would like to highlight is our girls valiant efforts to take on this stronger team; the fact that even though it was exceptionally hot too, there was no complaining or heads going down – just dogged determination to do their best. As a coach that is all you can ask for and I am very proud of their noble attitude and their refusal to give up.

I feel that the girls will have learned some lessons from this match and as every cloud has a silver lining, will now know the true value of taking free passes quickly, moving forward into space, putting hands up under the goal and grabbing that ball when you do!

Very well done girls – you never gave up and with this attitude, better results will come!

Congratulations to Maddie who was voted Player of the Match for the second week running J

Netball High 5’s

Under 9 B’s

Eagle House v Hall Grove home

Final score: 3-6 Lost

Team: Poorvi Kundu – Captain, Jasmine Cunliffe, Madeleine Crouch, Devashri Moodley, Lucy Crewe.

Hall Grove Player of the Match: Madeleine Crouch

It was a sunny late summer afternoon for our first High 5 match of the season. Having spent the previous two Wednesday afternoons coaching them and really encouraging them to move into and make space, I was looking forward to seeing how much they had retained.

The game started well and I felt from the outset that the two teams were pretty evenly matched. Our girls really had listened as they spread out and stayed in and around the “channels” Mrs Creighton had highlighted to them. Hall Grove’s first goal was quickly followed by ours, with a wonderful shot in by Jasmine. The end of the first quarter stood at 1-1and it really did feel that the game could go either way.

Second quarter saw more of the same and whilst Hall Grove who normally play netball had better pace when they had possession, we were still very good at making space and passing down the court when we won it back. The end of the second quarter saw the score standing at 2-2; our second goal scored by Devashri.

The third quarter was where we began to flag a little and I put this down to the fact that we were a team of five and hence had no respite from the game. All the girls worked hard but when Hall Grove got possession, we were a little lazy at working back and they scored two goals as a result of this. Jasmine scored a fantastic goal in the third, but by the end of it we were 4-3 down.

We did out best in the final quarter, but at the end of the day, we couldn’t keep up with their fresh legs and by the end of it, Hall Grove left us with a 6-3 win under their belts.

Despite the loss, I was really impressed with the girls and how hard they tried, how much they had listened and how good this basis will be to work on to develop their game further. We must remember to work back when we lose possession of the ball, grab the ball when there is a tussle and to get under the post to defend the goal if the opposition are attempting a shot. A really good game though girls and I am excited for your development as a team.

Congratulations to Maddie who was voted Player of the Match by Hall Grove J
