Eagle House U9's

Wednesday 10th March
Eagle House v Highfield
Won 15 - 1
Player of the match: Madeleine Brant
Coaches Player: Holly Wright
Wow! Although it was freezing and all of our legs were blue, the girls played a fantastic game. Play was quick, as the girls were looking for a space calling out for the ball. Defence was good intercepting the ball from Highfield a great deal of the time, getting the ball up the court to Holly and Zara who scored some great goals missing hardly any (well done for taking your time!- it makes such a difference) What an amazing win 15-1… fabulous! We have one more game and we have to build on this, practising even harder on Tuesday and making sure that we learn from our mistakes.
Wednesday 24th February 2010
Eagle House v The Oratory
Won 5 - 1
Team: Zara Anichebe, Maddie Brant, Holly Wright, Eleanor Sherlock, Ellis Turton, Lulu Hammond
Girl of the Game: Zara Anichebe
Coaches Player: Eleanor Sherlock
A really good game - a bit slow to start off with, but as they got into it they were really impressive. Footwork was impeccable!! Interceptions were really well done - Zara made a great one from a centre pass. Ellis scored from the circle edge and Zara was the top scorer having scored twice. Eleanor was brilliant at getting free and her passing was always very accurate and strong. Well done girls!

Wednesday 9th December
Eagle House v Highfield
Won 6 - 2
What a fantastic game to end the term. This was a far closer match than the score suggests, with great play from both teams. Play was quick, footwork neat and passes fast and accurate. The only major difference between the teams was the ability to get the ball in the goal. Highfield certainly had many chances and unfortunately managed to convert 2 of these opportunities into goals in the final quarter.
The Eagle House girls were certainly strongest when on the attack. With great spacing and long but accurate passes, the ball moved down the court quickly. Defence is improving, although there is still a tendency to forget to mark our opponents - something to work on next term. Merry Christmas!
Wednesday 18th November
Eagle House v Hawley Place
Won 11 - 4
Team: Holly Wrighht, Zara Anichebe, Madeleine Brant, Emily-Louise Brett, Lucinda Hammond, Eleanor Sherlock
Man of the Match: Holly Wright
Girls this was a brilliant performance of how High Five should be played. The first quarter you looked as though you were still warming up, you forgot to move into a space and your passing was not strong enough (you must remember -shoulder passes) at the end of the first quarter it was 2 - 2. With a switch around and a long team chat you all woke up and turned into the dynamic team I know you can be. Hawley Place did not manage to score due to our excellent defending and we went onto score 7 in this quarter. I was very impressed with your movement on the court from our centre pass into the circle, the ball flowed as it should - well done! Our third and fourth quarters were not quite so dynamic as the ball never seemed to move out of the centre court, girls you must remember to always look forward and move into a space rather than always running towards the ball or hiding behind your player. However you did manage to hold Hawley Place and went on to an excellent win of 11 - 4.
Thursday 5th November v Hall Grove
Won 5 – 3
U9 A
The match started with much excitement as the girls came rushing out of their lesson straight on to the court, giving them a good warm up. The match was really exciting to watch and umpire as there was a lot of great team work throughout the whole game. You all played with a lot of determination and intercepted a lot of Hall Grove’s passes which showed great defence, so well done to all of you for that. What we do need to work on is once you have made the interception you must react quickly to then bring the ball up the court and convert it into a goal for us.
Overall this was a fabulous performance girls and you should all be very proud of yourselves!
Wednesday 23rd September v Oratory
Under 9A Won 8-5
Under 9B Lost 8-5
Wednesday 14th October v St. Andrew's (Pangbourne)
Under 9A Lost 6-3
Player of the Match: Zara Anichebe
Coach's Player: Zara Anichebe
The girls boarded the minibus with great enthusiasm having been really organized in the changing rooms and ready to leave on time. The drive to St. Andrew's is always enjoyable at this time of year but I doubt if the girls noticed the autumnal colours due to the excitement of the forthcoming game.
The first quarter was extremely close but EH looked to have the better spacing on the court, passed the ball out wide and so scored the first goal. A string of good strong passes down the court and into the circle gave our shooters more opportunities to score and so Zara put the ball through the net for the second time. Maddie and Holly worked well in centre court demonstrating long shoulder passes.
Eh defence worked tirelessly during the 2nd quarter, Eleanor and Zara working well together: Zara gaining the interceptions and Eleanor sprinting away for the ball. Unfortunately Holly and Maddie had cling film over their goal, the ball did not want to drop through despite several chances. Again this was a very close quarter with no goals being scored at either end.
The six minutes EH worked again to get the ball to the shooters but their defence had springs in her feet and produced some lovely interceptions. Holly made it difficult for her player to get the ball but even so EH put on one goal to St. Andrew's two. We seem to lose focus during the final quarter seeming not to think before throwing but we did get the ball to our shooters several times but were not able to make the most of those opportunities. Unfortunately we lost the game 3-6.
This was a good even game until the last quarter with some extremely good passing but we really need to focus on a new position and the role that needs to be played.
Well done girls.
