Hockey vs Brookham
Won 4 - 0

What a brilliant game! I really don't have much to say other than what a fantastic way to end the hockey season!
Despite the grass playing surface the girls didn't struggle to pass the ball to each other, because the pitches we used were very small. Each of the girls played exceptionally well today:
Finn (CF) - Well done for scoring our first goal!
Marlie - Anne (CM) - Well done for scoring our second 2 goals!
Sophie (LW) - Well done for scoring our final goal!
Sofia (LW/sub) - You did some brilliant tackling today and had alot of motivation to get the ball
Charlotte (RW) - I noticed today Charlotte, how you were really thinking about where to pass the ball and where best to position yourself to recieve the ball. This is super and something I'd like to see you all thinking about a little bit more.
Chloe G (RD) - Well done Chloe for passing out to the people on the wing rather than just hitting it straight up the middle of the pitch, and well done for remembering what to do when the opposing team hit the ball off the pitch without being reminded.
Alice (LD) - Alice, not only can you hit really well on astro, you can also hit really well on grass.
Alexandra (Sweeper) - Alex, due to our attack being so fantastic today, I know you didn't have much to do, but you certainly helped to stop a few goals going in so well done.
Thank you for everyone who comes to cheer the girls on, it makes such a massive difference to their motivation levels.
Saturday 25th February 2012 - High 5 netball tournament
Team: Sofia, Renee, Alice, Chloe G, Alexandra, Sophie, Finn
The sun was shining, the birds were singing and the girls were playing some excellent netball. We won our first game against The Abbey school 1 - 0 with some superb intercepting from Renee in the second half stopping the other team from scoring any goals.
Our third game was against a team without much experience and we drew 0 - 0, it's easy to let the standard of our own netball drop if the opposing team are making lots of silly mistakes and that's something you girls need to be aware of in the future. Just, because the other team is crowding the ball doesn't mean you need too.
We also drew our second match with the final score being 2 - 2 against Yately Manor. We struggled in the first half of this game, but the second half was a lot better with Finn scoring 2 goals.
Unfortunately we lost our 4th match, but this was Eagle Houses year 4 team, so the fact that we managed to score at all was brilliant.
Our final game was against St Andrews and we won 3 - 1.
It was lovely to see you girls ALL playing so well in so many different positions. I was very proud watching you play today girls, it is clear that you understood what I said to you at all the half times, because I always saw a difference
in the second half of the games.
Well done to each and everyone of you and thank you to all the parents, friends and dogs who came along to support us today. :)
Photos to follow soon!!

Eagle House 0
St Andrews 3
Team: Sofia Albano, Renee, Sophie H, Chloe Grey, Charlotte, Finn S, Christie
Sorry about the bold, I cannot seem to remove it.
This was the girls first ever hockey match on grass, hence the unfortunate result. When playing on grass it is harder to hit the ball as far, so when the girls spread out fantastically across the pitch (just as they have been taught to do) they couldn't hit the ball far enough to reach each other and so it kept getting intercepted. This is something to remember next time we play on grass. Hit the ball harder, and stand slightly closer together!
However, we cannot blame everything on the grass! One thing I noticed this week is how you girls need slightly more motivation when playing hockey. You all have superb skills now, you just need to really 'attack' the game as if you want to win. When I ask you at half time if you would like to win, I don't want to hear "Well we don't really mind Miss Webb"!!
On a more positive note I would like to mention some fantastic work in defense today. It was good to see Renee and Chloe running up to meet the ball and not just standing still and waiting for it to slowly roll over. A special well done to Charlotte for playing as sweeper today, a position she has never played before. In fact, a massive well done to all of you, you're right really girls, it's not all about the winning; it's the taking part that counts!!
Thursday 9th February 2012 - Netball
Eagle House 0
Lambrook 0
Team: Sofia Albano, Renee, Sophie, Chloe Grey, Charlotte, Alice, Finn S
Well, we didn't win. But we didn't lose. :)
After such a long time since we have played a netball match, with today being the first time the girls have played a 7 - a - side match and with the main focus of our games lessons being on hockey over the past few weeks I must admit I was a little worried about this weeks match. However, every single one of the girls played well and did themselves proud. The whistle was hardly ever blown for footwork, and I didn't have to do anywhere near as much shouting from the sidelines as i normally do. The girls kept to their positions and used strong passes that were hard for the other team to intercept.
To improve in our next match and ensure we score some goals, the girls need to move into space
and pass the ball allot faster, so that our opponents don't get the chance to mark us and make it harder for us to receive the ball and therefore get it down to our attacking players.
As always, thank you to all of our wonderful supporters.
Thursday 26th January - Hockey
Eagle House 5
Edgeborogh 1
Team: Alex M, Charlotte B, Alice S, Renee O, Sophie H, Choe G, Marlie - Ann TS, Madeleine C
Captain: Alex M
Goals: Marlie-Anne x 3
Sophie Hodge X 2
Girl of the game:
Alexandra M for her excellent sweeping.
Yay!! The first hockey match we've won!! Well done to all the girls who played and thank you so much for everyone who came to support them.
At the beginning of this week I gave the girls 4 targets to work on, tackling hard and pushing the ball out of the D strongly if they're defending and moving and passing into space if they're attacking. It was very clear to see that they understand these key points now and they no longer look like they don't really know what they're supposed to be doing when they're playing. Chloe, Renee and Sophie worked especially hard in attack to keep their width and work together a lot better than last week as did Charlotte and Alice in defense.
Obviously there is still allot of things we need to practice, but we are definitely making progress.
:)
Thursday 19th January
Eagle House - 0
Feltonfleet - 1
Team: Alex M, Charlotte B, Alice S, Finn S, Renee O, Sophie H, Sofia A
Captain: Renee O
Well, what a fantastic first match of the season!! I am very pleased with the progress the girls have made in hockey since they first began playing it only a couple of months ago. We had possession of the ball for well over 50% of the game due to being very strong in attack. A special mention must go to Finn who always seemed to be on the ball and dribbling / passing it down to our D. Unfortunately, the opposing team had a strong defense and so we never quite managed to get the ball into the goal. To overcome this problem in our next match the girls must pass the ball quicker, before they are tackled.
Apart from the one occasion where our defending players weren't completely focused
and Feltonfleet scored a goal, Alice, Charlotte and Alexandra really did play to the best of their ability running to the ball, rather than waiting for it to get to them and then pushing it straight back down to our end of the pitch without hesitation. Well done all of you!!
What was so brilliant about today's match was the competitive spirit the girls portrayed, with a little more practice and even more competitive spirit I'm sure we will soon have a win.
Friday 1st December
U8B Netball v Edgeborough
Eagle House 2
Edgeborough 3
Team: Lucy Crewe (Captain), Alice Saunders, Chloe Grey, Marlie-Anne Tyler Smith, Alexandra Moiseyenko, Sophie Hodge and Charlotte Borthwick
The game got off to a wobbly start with Edgeborough scoring a goal almost instantly, however we bounced back strongly with Marlie-Anne scoring us 2 brilliant goals with the help of Chloe in the D, and with some excellent work across the pitch by Sophie and Charlotte, who really seem to understand how to get into a space to receive the ball without it being intercepted by our opponents.
Unfortunately, we then began to relax as we were winning 2 - 1 and therefore Edgeborough retook the lead by scoring another 2 goals. The girls need to learn from this mistake and concentrate for the whole of the match regardless of the score.
The umpire from Edgeborough gave a special mention to Lucy and Alice who did some superb intercepting, and I would like to say an extra big well done to Alexandra for doing so well in her first ever match!
Thursday 24th November
U8B Netball v Hall Grove
Eagle House 0
Hall grove 1
Team: Chloe P, Chloe G, Finn S, Sophie H, Sofia A, Alexandra M, Charlotte B
Girl of the game: Chloe P
As I stood and watched the girls play today I was very proud with how they have improved over the past 8 weeks since our first match.
The final score doesn't really reflect how well the girls played. The goal scored by Lambrook was in the first half of the match and due to a lack of marking by our girls playing in defence. However, after this initial mistake all the girls worked very well together as a team and we kept possession of the ball for more than half of the remaining time.
If we practice our shooting lots and lots in the coming weeks and continue to play as we did today then I think we will have a lot more wins this season.
Thursday 17th November
U8B Hockey v
Lambrook
Eagle House 0
Lambrook 3
Team: Sofia Albano, Renee Orleans - Lindsay, Chloe Grey, Alice Saunders, Finn Searle, Alexandra Moiseyenko
Girl of the game: Finn
For the girls first hockey match I was really impressed, they tried their hardest throughout the whole game
and kept their heads held high even when we began losing.
The reason Lambrook had most possession of the ball was due to the fact that we didn't manage to intercept many of their passes, this is why it is so important for
every player to be marking their opponent, just like in netball.
Towards the end of the game, Finn managed to take the ball up to our end and very nearly scored a goal, however with the rest of the players still down the other end of the pitch she had no one to pass to. This is something we will work on in practice and therefore we should have more success in our next game.
Thanks to all the parents who came to watch this exciting game.
Well down girls!!
Thursday 13th October
U8B v Feltonfleet
Eagle House won 1 - 0
Team: Christie Steer, Sofia Albano, Finnabhair Searle, Charlotte Borthwick, Chloe Grey, Sophie Hodge
Girl of the Game - Sophie Hodge - Captain
Well played girls, a much better performance than last week. You looked as though you were trying very hard to get into space so that you were free for the pass, although on a couple of occasions you all stood still with your arms in the air looking like trees. So we must really try and stay focused for the whole 6 minutes.
We certainly had a lot more attempts at shooting than Feltonfleet, and we were really unlucky that a few more didn't go into the net, but 1 did and that was brilliantly scored by Chloe in the 1st quarter - well done Chloe!
Have a great half term girls and i will see you back on the netball court soon!
Thursday 6th October V Eton End
Eagle House: 0
Eton End: 1
Team: Christie Steer - Captain, Sofia Albano, Finnabhair Searle, Charlotte Borthwick, Chloe Grey, Chloe Parry, Sophie Hodge
This match was a good learning curve for the girls, without running into space anywhere near as much as they are capable of and instead crowding round the ball,
the other team had way too much possession and therefore scored a goal.
However, our defending skills improved allot throughout the game so Eton End didn't get the chance to score a second goal, meaning the overall result was very close.
Every one of the girls is now remembering how to behave properly when we are having matches against other schools, and it is lovely to see them remembering to do 3 cheers without me having to ask them and getting on so well with their new friends.
Good luck next week girls, remember to get into space and hopefully you'll have another win!!
Thursday 29th September V St Andrews
Eagle house: 3
St Andrews: 2
Team:
Christie Steer, Sofia Albano, Finnabhair Searle, Charlotte Borthwick, Chloe Grey, Chloe Parry, Sophie Hodge
On a warm and sunny afternoon in late september the 7 and 8 year old girls piled themselves into the minibus ready to entertain the teachers with their wonderful singing!! We got a bit worried when they started with "today i don't feel like doing anything, I just wanna lay in my bed..."
However, they clearly did feel like doing something, because the match got off to a brilliant start with Finn scoring two magnificent goals in the first quarter. It was clear to see just how hard they had been practicing in games this week, as their footwork was a million times better than it was in our last match. Unfortunately, as the game went one St Andrews school were getting more and more possession of the ball, but with some fantastic interception skills from Chloe we managed to get the ball back down our end, where Charlotte scored our third and final goal.
Girls, to get even better at netball you need to make sure you keep dodging and moving into space, never stand still, because it makes it really easy for your opponent to mark you!!
Well done to every one of you, you were brilliant!
Thursday 22nd September V Hall Grove
Eagle house: 2
Hallgrove: 1
Team: Sophie Hodge - Captain, Sofia Albano, Marlie-Anne Tyler–Smith, Finnabhair Searle, Alice Saunders, Chloe Grey, Christina Steer
Considering this was the girls first ever match, they played extremely well.
In the first quarter of the match Hall Grove scored a goal, but this did not dampen the girl’s spirits at all, they concentrated more and tried even harder to mark their opponents and therefore managed to gain possession of the ball.
Throughout the next 3 quarters, the girls kept possession of the ball for the majority of the match and so a couple of really good goals were scored, resulting in us winning the match!!
There are lots of things we need to work on, for example sticking to the footwork rule and getting the ball to the correct end of the court!! However, overall it was a really lovely first match and the wonderful match tea that followed was enjoyed by all.
