Friday 19th March
Eagle House 2 Bishopsgate 2
Thursday 11th March
The Abbey 2 Eagle House 2
This was certainly an exciting game with the ball moving from end to end culminating in a clearing save from Ellis on the final whistle (actually it was after the whistle should have been blown, but the coach had been watching the game, so exciting was it). We arrived a little late as it took a little too long for the girls to get ready and to follow the instructions on the team sheets, and after a quick warm-up, we were off.
Eagle House scored an early goal, penalising the Abbey for not clearing the ball properly and it appeared that we would cruise on. However, we started to make mistakes and suddenly we all were attracted to the ball (honey and pot come to mind), allowing far too much space to the opposition who drove up and scored rather an easy goal.
The second half started well with Holly passing strongly to the far post for Zara to finish off a flowing move similar to the one last Wednesday against Yateley Manor, and again we threatened to dominate. Ellie, Izzie, Eleanor, and Emily kept their places with greater discipline and Emily and Ellie especially were trying hard to put into practice what they had been told, stopping and releasing the ball well. Unfortunately, with five minutes to go, we conceded another goal, and although both teams could have scored two or three more, a draw was a fair result. So well done to both sides!
Points to work on – move your feet. This is not football, so the ball cannot touch your feet. You must move your feet, keeping your stick away from your body.
- Stop the ball properly before passing.
- Bend your knees to hit/push the ball
- Don’t dither; pass the ball much earlier.
Next week we are back to netball on Wednesday and it will be a good game.
Eagle House 2 v 2 Yateley Manor
(Maddie Brant 2)
Squad: Ellis Turton (GK); Lucinda Hammond (Capt); Maddie Brant; Ellie Moore;
Zara Anichebe; Emily-Lousia Brett; Isabelle Edwards; Holly Wright
After their great victory and performance v Daneshill the Under-9s were keen to get back onto the pitch for their 2nd match of the term. Confidence was high after a good training session on Tuesday afternoon, but it was clear that Yateley Manor were also in good spirits as they started brightly and put Eagle House under some early pressure.
Adjusting to the bigger pitch at Wellington took a little time and it was only down to a couple of excellent saves by Ellis in the Eagle House goal that kept the score line blank in the first half. Maddie and Holly both had chances to score, but the found the Yateley Manor defence a tough nut to crack as their deep players made some important interceptions and last ditch tackles. (HT 0-0)
The start of the 2nd half saw Isabelle play in her first hockey match for the school and she didn't have to wait long to see her team score the first goal. A quick free hit by Lulu gave Maddie some space through the middle and she moved powerfully towards the top of the circle, riding a couple of challenges, to fire the ball low to the goalkeepers right and into the bottom left hand corner (1-0). Yatelely Manor came straight back and were unlucky to just miss the far post with a quick shot. However, they didn't have to wait long for an equalizer as a a mix up in the Eagle House defence gave the Yateley striker space to turn and shoot and this time Ellis was unable to keep the ball out (1-1).
Eagle House came back strongly and were rewarded by the goal of the match, a great team goal with some clinical passing. A free hit by Isabelle near her own circle was passed on by Zara to Holly wide on the left wing. Holly managed to turn under pressure and find Lulu breaking through the middle and she slipped it past the last defender to Maddie in the D who pushed it past the GK for the 2nd goal (2-1).
Unfortunately Eagle House weren't able to hold on for the win as a late goal by Yateley Manor tied the match up at 2-2. It was tough on Ellis, who had been excellent throughout the match, as the final defection came off an Eagle House stick which gave her no chance to react and make a save.

Eagle House U9A v Daneshill (away)
Wednesday 27th January
Eagle House 5 v 0 Daneshill
(Holly Wright 3, Maddie Brant, Zara Anichebe)
Squad: Ellis Turton (GK); Lucinda Hammond (Capt); Maddie Brant; Ellie Moore;
Zara Anichebe; Emily-Lousia Brett; Eleanor Sherlock; Holly Wright
The Under 9s produced a fantastic team performance in their first match of the Lent Term and totally deserved the large margin of victory over Daneshill. However, the first half was a close affair with both sides unable to take control of the match and create good goal scoring opportunities. The deadlock was finally broken when Maddie dribbled powerfully down the right and crossed to Holly, who was unmarked in the middle of the D, and she calmly pushed the ball into the corner of the Daneshill goal.
After taking the lead Eagle House noticeably grew in confidence and started to dictate the play more resulting in one of two more chances, which unfortunately were not taken. The defensive group of Emily-Lousia, Eleanor and Ellie were all sharp to any Daneshill attack and this meant that Ellis didn't have to make a save in the first half, which finished at 1-0.
Daneshill started the second half brightly and Ellis needed to be alert to turn a good shot onto the post which Maddie cleared out of danger. Eagle House's midfield of Maddie, Zara and Lulu were starting to dominate the match and it was no surprise when they set Holly up for her 2nd and 3rd goals of the match. With the victory secured it was great to see Maddie score a well deserved goal after all her hard work and the match was finished of by a quality strike from Zara to complete the scoring in a fine 5-0 victory.
