Under 8 A’s Hockey

Eagle House v Marlston House     Home

Final score: 3-0 Win

Team: Claudia Robinson (Captain), Lucie Donnelly, Roseanna Fernanades, Holly Cookson, Hannah McClelland, Mimi Carling, Poppy Perry.

Reserves: Poorvi Kundu, Madeleine Crouch, Jasmine Cunliffe.

Marlston House Player of the Match: Claudia Robinson.

After waiting patiently on the sidelines, this group of girls came together brilliantly as a team and played a really good game of hockey against their Marlston House opposition. Midfield was particularly strong and there were some great moments of teamwork when passing between our girls was accurate and well-thought out. Defence is developing well and Holly and Mimi were a tough line to break through which saw the opposition rarely in any goal-scoring positions which was fantastic to see. Rolling on the subs, Poorvi, Maddie and Jasmine gave their all and played well, contributing to the team as a whole.

There are moments of brilliance here girls and ones to be maximised on. Passing within the team needs to happen more frequently and making use of your wings too, will result in even more goals. Work together and you will reap the rewards collectively. Well done to all girls – you all played really well and your spirit was not diminished by the sub-temperatures by this stage of the proceedings! Many thanks to the mums and dads who came to support and brave the freezing sunshine!

Final score: 3-0

Goals scored: First and second by Claudia Robinson, third by Hannah McClelland.

Under 8 A’s Hockey

Eagle House v Yateley Manor home

Final score: 6-0 Win

Team: Roseanna Fernanades(Captain), Lucie Donnelly, Claudia Robinson, Tara Vaikunthanathan, Holly Cookson, Hannah McClelland, Mimi Carling, Poppy Perry.

Yateley Manor Player of the Match: Lucie Donnelly.

This was a truly fantastic game of hockey to watch today. The Under 8A’s played some outstanding hockey and worked brilliantly together as a team. The appointment of positions was spot on as the mid-fielders worked hard to work and stay together whilst spreading out enough to allow some really great passing to happen. Special mention must go to Lucie, Roseanna and Claudia who worked particularly well together and read the game brilliantly. Defence was really strong and rolling Poppy off at half time to give Tara a game in the second made no difference – they were both as good as each other and worked excellently alongside Holly and Mimi to provide great defence for the team.

The result was very impressive but reflects all of the effort you put in to advance down the pitch and putting yourselves in the best goal-scoring positions.

If there is any advice to give you it would be to spread out that little bit more and for the midfield to entrust their teammates and pass to them. One player a team does not make and it is important to give the ball up – it will come back to you and you will work better as a team if you do!

A really impressive result and performance girls – very well done J

Final score: 6-0

Goals scored: First and second by Lucie Donnelly, third, fourth, fifth and sixth by Claudia Robinson.

Under 8 B’s Hockey

Eagle House v Yateley Manor    Home

Final score: 3-0 Win

Team: Poorvi Kundu (Captain), Lucie Donnelly, Tara Vaikunthanathan, Holly Cookson, Poppy Perry, Madeleine Crouch, Devashri Moodley.

Yateley Manor Player of the Match: Lucie Donnelly.

After a long wait to go on, the spirits were not dimmed as the light started to fade as the Under 8B’s took on Yateley Manor in this home match of hockey. The girls worked hard as a team and as individuals, striving together to get the ball down the pitch and towards their goal. Tackling and working back was strong and effort and energy was rife. A special mention should go to Tara, Poppy, Holly and Lucie who not only played in both A and B team matches, played really well in both! Also, Tara’s hatrick of 3 goals must be mentioned as a major highlight of the game for the team and a personal triumph for her individually no doubt!

It was a delight to watch you play and given the opportunity, many of you showed great potential and enthusiasm for the game which was wonderful to see. You have to remember to spread out a bit and pass to each other that little bit more and you will work much better together as a team. But really well done today – a great effort and a great result! J

Final score: 3-0

Goals scored: All 3 by Tara Vaikunthanathan.

Wednesday 19th January

U8A V Hall Grove

Won 5-0

Claudia 3, Hannah 1, Lucie 1

Team: Claudia Robinson ©, Hannah McClelland, Roseanna Fernandes, Tara Vaikunthanathan, Mimi Carling, Lucie Donnelly, Holly Cookson, Poppy Perry

Opposition Player of the Match: Claudia Robinson

Eagle House were wide awake and raring to go! No longer were they hanging back to see who would move upfront to score the goals for the team. A greater understanding of their roles was apparent from the minute the whistle blew. A few short passes, great stick work from Claudia and catching the opposition off guard we had the first goal.   Throughout the game Eagle House displayed great determination and effort in trying to remember to dribble to the open spaces,  pass the ball before being tackled or take the ball to the weak side of the player.

When Hall Grove brought the ball into our half they were ably met with the sterling defence of Holly, Mimi and Tara who despatched the ball up to mid field. These girls worked really well throughout the game, if one was unsuccessful another came behind to hinder the attack. Some thoughtful play by Tara pushing the ball out to the wing showed the improvement this team have made.

Hall Grove came out fighting in the second half as they were 4-0 down. The ball was moved over the pitch at a fair pace and all the girls demonstrated a good standard of hockey for this age group. EH gelled more as a team during these ten minutes with some nice passes into the D to our attack. Hannah, Poppy, Claudia and Roseanna supported one another and there was greater communication between them. Some unsuccessful attempts at goal were made but it was good to witness the newfound resolve to get the ball between the posts. Hall Grove kept coming back but Eagle House were quick to pounce on the ball sent up pitch by our defence. Hannah in particular showed great tenacity passing out on the wing to Roseanna who had a couple of strong runs into the D. One created a accurate pass to Lucie who finished off the match nicely with the final goal.

Well done girls, despite the score this was an even game on the pitch and most enjoyable to watch.

Thank you to all the parents who came along to support.

Wednesday 19th January

U9A V Hall Grove

Won 3-1

Sadie 2, Melanie 1

Team: Cordelia Bambury ©, Melanie Dickin, Sadie Parry, Anna Morgan GK, Anastasia Grillo, Megan Ross, Georgia Frost, Phoebe Tennant

Opposition Player of the Match: Cordelia Bambury

This was a most enjoyable game for me as I hadn’t taken this team since they were in year 3 therefore it was so lovely to see the improvement they have all made. Not only has their stick work improved immensely as was so ably demonstrated by the attack team of Cordelia, Melanie and Anastasia but their grasp of positioning really helped their game.

The two teams were very evenly matched, Hall Grove were very determined on the attack, managing to penetrate our defence but unfortunately for them their shots were slightly off target  or they were met by our great GK Anna who was having a fantastic game. She really proved to be the dominant force in the circle. It was also pleasing to see that our 16 yard hit was taken quickly by both Megan or Georgia which was a real advantage to our team. Melanie and Cordelia were quick to pick up this ball and keep it under control, passing out to the wings, Anastasia particularly had a couple of long runs up to the D before being challenged. Sadie was kept busy in the circle but had her mind set on scoring and produced two strikes right on target.  The final goal came from Melanie who had been very industrious throughout the game.

This was a most promising game which finished in the fading light. A plate of sausages and chips was richly deserved by all those who played. Cordelia was picked as player of the match, justly so, as she displayed great control over the ball and played an intelligent game. Well done to all the team.

Good luck for the festival on Saturday!

Wednesday 10th November v Oratory U9B

Team: Holly Cookson, Mimi Carling, Poorvi Kundu, Hannah McClelland, Claudia Robinson, Lucie Donnelly, Poppy Perry and Roseanna Fernandes

Unfortunately the girls were playing on grass which totally upset the confidence that has been building within this age group. They found it difficult to move the ball and several lost their footing during the game. We did display some promising skills but  our attack often found themselves surrounded by the opposition, many of whom were a year older, so could not escape with the ball or get it through the defence. When we did manage to break through, often by Claudia taking the long way round we had some good runs up the pitch. Playing on grass the girls need to remember that more force is needed behind the ball. We had several good shots at goal but must be persistent in our attack.

Claudia worked very hard as CM but must look around for support from her team mates when giving that pass. Holly and Mimi were again strong in defence and in the second half really remembered to put the ball wide out to the wings. We had the opportunity to take a short corner which we had practiced at home and I was so impressed that we scored the most fantastic goal from this - well done!

As this was a coaching game, the girls had the opportunity to  try out several positions but found it quite hard to display their improving stick skills. The Oratory played a real grass game of hit and run which proved most successful for them but we did manage to put three goals past them before the final whistle.

Goals were scored by Claudia, Holly and Lucie but a good effort by all the team

Final score 6-3

Friday 5th November  v  Holme Grange

Team: Claudia Robinson, Lucie O’Donnelly, Roseanna Fernandes, Tara Viakunthanathan, Mimi Carling, Holly Cookson, Hannah McClelland and Poppy Perry

Player of the Match: Claudia Robinson

As the first ever hockey match,  I was very pleased with the whole team in general. In the attack, Claudia led by example, her experience very evident on the pitch but she and Lucie worked well together. I think we were a bit ‘match struck ‘ during the first half as the ball was taken into the D many times but no-one took on the role of putting it in the goal. Hannah had some lovely runs on the wing but all players need to get more strength in their passing so the ball arrives where we want it to, rather than being easily intercepted . Our attack were finding space but too far away for the pass, remember to come forward for the ball. Holme Grange having already had three games under their belt, attacked our goal with determination. They made quick accurate passes into their striker and caught us off guard. On saying that, when the game settled down, our defence were superb. Mimi had a very promising game and made several great saves in front of the goal. Holly went forward for the incoming ball and was extremely brave going in for the tackle and Tara really hampered their CM with her close defending. One thing to remember is to send the ball out wide to the wing and not straight back to the attack but a brilliant start.

The second half came alight when Claudia displayed some great stick work and took the ball around a couple of defence and finished it off with a sharp hit - great goal! The girl’s spirits were visibly lifted and all players seemed to take on a new lease of life. We had a series of quick passes, Poppy and Roseanna passing around the opposition and again we were up to the D, an accurate cross pass from Hannah made the spectators gasp in anticipation but unfortunately the ball went on past the goal mouth.  We didn’t have long to wait before the girls had the ball in the D again and this time Claudia again took the opportunity to score another good goal to make us level.  Holme Grange came back to score one more which was the final score of the match.

As this was a coaching game, we did not emphasize the score but only losing by one was extremely creditable.  Well done girls, what a great first performance!
