Wednesday 14th March

Eagle House 0

St Neot's  8

You had to give credit to the girls at the end of this match as they kept going against a side that would have caused problems for our A team and everybody contributed something positive to the game. Georgia deserves a special mention as she played most of the Under 11 b game and then all of the Under 10 b game as we had no reserves available and Millie made some good saves against a rather constant barrage. St Neot's were  a well coached side and they passed the ball with much greater speed and with much greater purpose. Our problem lay in the fact that we tried to hit the ball with the hands in the right position for a push and vice versa. This meant our passing lacked power and coupled with the fact that we hit to the opposition's strong side, seldom were we able to attack with purpose.

We had a couple of practices since half term and perhaps you found it difficult to put into practice the skills that were emphasised. It is essential that you listen and use the coaching that is given.

Join a local club over the summer and we will have another go next year.

Wednesday 1st February v Cranleigh

Eagle House 1

Cranleigh 2

Team: Millie Guida GK, Emma Jennings, Georgia Frost (C), Hollie Hunt, Emily Barber, Pheobe Tennant, & Ella Tyrell Smith

Girl of the game: Amelia Guida

Well done girls! We knew we were going to have a tough match against Cranleigh but I was very impressed with how you worked as a team. This was our opposition’s second game of the year and they managed to intercept many of our passes and enter our half. However, with some great defending from Hollie and Emma they struggled to turn these into goals. Millie was fantastic in goal and rightfully deserved girl of the game!

With some excellent passes from the wings to Georgia she was able to score a great goal to level the score up to one all. Unfortunately, Cranleigh managed to score one more goal and then it was almost full time.

Overall a good match girls but we need to work on not touching the ball with our feet.

Wednesday 25th January v Holme Grange

Eagle House 0

Holme Grange 6

Team: Millie Guida GK, Emma Jennings (C), Georgia Frost, Hollie Hunt, Emily Barber, Pheobe Tennant, & Ella Tyrell Smith

I was very impressed with the way this team did not give up at all during this match. The score does not reflect the game at all, EH had plenty of the play and moved the ball extremely well on occasions. The forwards really tried to keep their width but I think we must really try to offload the ball quicker, looking up earlier to find the space. Emily as striker, stayed up on the attck but when the ball is sent her way she needs to have the other forwards with her to stop the ball being sent back out to the opposition. Emma had a great game as back going to meet the oncoming ball, clearing it up the wing to Hollie. Georgia, a stalwart as centre-mid, displayed some great stick work often finding Phoebe out on the wing for support.

We will get there girls, keep working on the skills and gather up all your determination for the next match.

Wednesday 18th January v Feltonfleet

Eagle House 0

Feltonfleet 5

The U10s played hockey against Feltonfleet this week. Although we came out with a 5-0 loss, this does not reflect the game. Millie made some great saves in the goal and everyone responded well to the short and long corners. The other team didn’t score off a single corner.

They had a few strong players which meant our attackers needed to be quicker getting onto defence. Emma and Holly held up strong but they needed the extra support from other players. Izzy and Sophia are also very talented players and have good ball control. When they are in the right place at the right time it looks fantastic. There were some real opportunities in the attacking end but unfortunately they managed to take it away at the last second.

Emily also had a brilliant game up the wing, she was always a good option, especially coming from the defensive end. Ella was often open and made some good passes for Izzy and Sophia to take up to the goal. Overall the game was very evenly matched but Feltonfleet made the most of their opportunities. Eagle House have some real potential to work with and the team is starting to play together and understand the game and each other.

U10B’s vs Highfield

8th December 2011

Eagle House drew 2-2

Team: Amelia Guida, Isabelle Orr, Sophia Orr, Emily Barber, Emma Jennings, Hollie Hunt, Ella Tyrrel Smith and Clara Bennett.

Girl of the game: Isabelle Orr

A great game to watch girls- well done! We were very well matched to Highfield and it was a very close game which could have gone either way. We were playing on grass for the third time this season and as it is a much slower game we could make some really excellent shots, passes and intercept many more balls. You all worked very well as a team, were very enthusiastic and determined to score goals.

In training we need to work on our tackling as we got pulled up on this quite a few times. It is important to remember that you can’t tackle from behind- which we did a few times and therefore gave away many free passes. Overall, it was a very good game and you all played fantastically!

U10B’s vs Holme Grange

23rd November 2011

Eagle House lost

Team: Millie Guida, Emma Jennings, Emily Barber, Georgia Frost, Sophia Orr, Pheobe Tennant-Captain, Ella Tyrrell-Smith.

Man of the match: Millie Guida

We had a very tough match at Holme grange with the teams not fairly being matched in ability. they made our team work very hard in defence and unfortunately we didnt manage to get the ball into the oppositions half much. Mille managed to save some very good saves in goal however we just did not have the power to hit the ball down field to the strikers.

We really need to work on our spacing throughout every game as we do not take advantage of the wingers and all tend to run after the ball. If we concentrate and stay were we are supposed to then the game should become less messy.

Overall, the girls kept their spirits up and carried on playing well given that it was a real struggle to beat their defence. Well done girls and better luck next time.

U10B’s vs The Oratory

12th November 2011

Eagle house draw 1-1

Team: Amelia Guida, Isabelle Orr, Sophia Orr, Emma Jennings, Hollie Hunt, Ella Tyrrell-Smith, Clara Bennett and Charlotte Leach.

Girl of the game: Ella Tyrrell-Smith

What a fantastic game girls- well done!

We arrived at The Oratory to realise that we were playing on grass for the second time this year and therefore knew that we were going to have to work hard. The first half of the match showed that the two schools were evenly matched with their skills as everyone had to work hard to get the ball near to the opposition’s goal. This meant that there were only a few shots at goal but the ones that there were Millie saved brilliantly!

After a great first half we had to keep working hard in the second to get a score on the board. With some great interceptions from our defence and centres we were able to pass the ball to the wingers and score- which we deserved. This then brought the score up to one all and unfortunately we couldn’t increase our score.

Overall it was a great match and you all worked so hard and played a wonderful game. Keep it up!

U10B vs St Andrews

Eagle House lost 7-0

Team: Millie Guida, Emily Barber, Clara Bennett, Hollie Hunt- Captain, Isabella Orr, Sophia Orr, Ella Tyrrell Smith and Charlotte Leach

Girl of the Game: Millie Guida

Coach’s Girl of the game: Charlotte Leach

For the girls second match of the year it was a disappointing final score. You all worked very hard, especially Millie in goal- who managed to save numerous shots at goal. St Andrews certainly made our defenders work hard.

We can take away from the match that one of the main things we need to improve on is that as soon as we get the ball we do not have to pass it straight away to our team mates. This meant that our opposition could intercept many of our balls. Don’t be afraid to run with the ball girls!

We had a few shots at goal but unfortunately St Andrews goalkeeper managed to stop all of our attempts. Overall well done girls you played with great spirit but better luck next time!

U10B’s vs Marlston House

28th September 2011

Eagle House lost 4-0

Team: Amelia Guida, Isabelle Orr, Sophia Orr, Emily Barber, Emma Jennings, Hollie Hunt, Ella Tyrrell-Smith, Clara Bennett and Charlotte Leach.

Girl of the game: Sophia Orr

Well done in your first hockey game of the year girls! Even though we were defeated, considering it was your first time playing on grass, I thought you put up a great fight. You worked well as a team and made sure everyone got involved.

Both teams made some very good tackles however, we need to work on creating space so our team mates can pass us the ball without any interceptions from the opposition. We tended all to run straight to the ball and not take advantage of the mid-fielders!

Millie played a great game considering it was her first attempt at being goal keeper- she managed to block the ball on numerous occasions and pass to Eagle House who could then take it down field. We had a few attempts at shooting for goal but we need to practice our aiming so we can turn it into points.
