Eagle House 2.5 Hall Grove 0
It is always a shame when the season finishes, especially one which has been curtailed so much by the glorious skiing conditions this term. However, this was a good way to finish the season in a game played in a very fair and a very competitive manner by two equally talented sides. Perhaps we deserved to edge ahead as we were a little quicker to the loose ball and certainly in the second half we managed to get the ball to the wings more often and this led to the second goal and one which would have counted had the whistle not gone in the 32 minute of a 20 minute half. Indeed, it was soooooooo great to be allowed to play on the astro(thank you to me!)after most of our practices had been done on the (very) hard surface or on grass. This enabled us to stop and pass the ball with greater consistency and everybody contributed positively, both those who should have and more pleasingly those whom I did not expect to shine in the way that they did. Two and a half good goals and conceding none is a good way to finish the season.
So thank you to all players (let's hope that you will go onto bigger and better games next year) and thank you to the parents who have supported us. I hope that everybody has enjoyed the improving hockey.
Parkside E 2 Eagle House C 1
This was a fair contest between the lower sides of this age group from each school. The game was disappointingly curtailed because of the late start of the previous games, but it can best be summed up by moments of frenetic incompetence interspersed with moments of pleasing hockey. On balance, Parkside probably deserved to win the game as individually they were the better players, and they tried to play hockey by passing the ball to players ion the same team and they constructed some good moves to create their two chances. Eagle House on the other hand struggled with the skills and technically were the weaker of the two sides. Perhaps they should have listened to the coaching (what little we have had) so that at least they could hit the ball. Having said that, we did try and deserved to gain at least a point through our continued efforts. Some like Will B and Robert and Tom B did keep running the whole game - very sensible if you ask me as it was very cold.
So a fair result between two sides that were of the same ability. We have much we can improve if we want to and are given the opportunity, time, place etc.
I would finally say that it was not always a pleasant experience driving up to and back from Surbiton. The children have to realise that great concentration is required to ensure their safety and the driver can do without childish behaviour and unnecessary distractions. Similarly, the group should also be more wary of making what could be seen as unnecessary and unwelcome and unfit comments. Such are not expected of these children.
