SEASON REVIEW
PLAYED 12 - WON 5 - DREW 4 - LOST 3
Leading goalscorers: Ali Tilmouth and Henry South (3)
Another very good season for the Colts B squad. The standard of the boys' hockey improved considerably over the term and it is a shame that the season ended when it did. If the Hoe Bridge and Cranleigh matches were at the end of the season, the results might well have been different. I hope that the Year 6 boys find a place in the 1st or 2nd XI teams next year and I am looking forward to coaching the Year 5 boys again.

Match 6 - Wednesday, 24th February - Hall Grove v Eagle House
DREW 0-0
The match was played on an Astro pitch. We dominated for much of the first half and most of our creativity came from Ru Whelan, Finlay O'Kane, Ben Howard and Henry South. We had several chances to score, but the resolute Hall Grove defending kept us out. Hall Grove had their own chances to score, but for Oscar Turton's solid goalkeeping. The second half was more evenly-balanced and both sides had opportunities to score. Our best chance fell to Henry, but unfortunately the ball came off his foot!
We were the better team on the day and I believe that we deserved to win the game. However, our lack of communication in the goal area let us down and we should have made more of our scoring opportunities. Nevertheless, a draw away from home is not a bad result. Hopefully we can round off our season with some good performances at the Dragon Tournament, which is always an exciting event.

Match 5 - Wednesday, 10th February - Eagle House v St Andrew's Woking
WON 1-0 (Harry Rees)
The match was played on the new Astro pitch at Wellington College. It was a bright, but cold day and both sides started positively. We managed to get more of the ball to our wingers and this enabled us to have several visits to the St Andrew's 'D'. We had a couple of chances to score in the first half, but we were unable to find our way around the St Andrew's defence. At the other end we were grateful to Harry Waters, who held our defensive line together, and to goalkeeper Oscar Turton. In the second half we began to dictate the play and most of our moves were created by Harry Rees, who had an outstanding game and scored a goal five minutes into the second half. This seemed to demoralise St Andrew's and we dominated the rest of the game, although we were unable to score any more goals.
A most pleasing result and our first victory in the bag! We have worked hard in our practice sessions and our best playing formation is beginning to take shape. Hopefully we can continue the momentum against Hall Grove.

Match 4 - Saturday, 6th February - Cranleigh v Eagle House
LOST 0-2
The match was played on a brand new Astro pitch. Because it was seven-a-side the players had to work very hard and therefore I used a 'rolling sub'. We conceded the first goal from a short corner and the second from open play. We had a few chances to score, but we were unable to capitalise on them. Jack Surrall was impressive on the left wing and Ali Tilmouth was a threat up front.
This was a disappointing result because we were not out-played. Cranleigh simply made the most of their opportunities to score. Our finishing must be more clinical in our next match against St Andrew's Woking and this is something we will practise in our next training session.

Match 3 - Wednesday, 3rd February - Hoe Bridge v Eagle House
LOST 2-3 (Finlay O'Kane, Henry South)
The match was played on a tight Astro pitch and therefore was a fast-paced game of hockey. We conceded a goal early in the first half, but were also unlucky not to score ourselves. At the start of the second half we conceded two more goals and I feared the worst, but we began to get into our stride and scored a goal through Finlay O'Kane. A couple of minutes before the end we scored again through Henry South to set up an exciting finish. A mention must go to Sven Winkler who created both goals. We won a short corner in the final play of the match, but unfortunately we were unable to score the equaliser.
Our matches against Hoe Bridge are always very exciting and this was no exception. To come back into the game from three goals down is very pleasing and shows the determination and positive attitude of the boys. Next up is a seven-a-side match against Cranleigh.

Match 2 - Wednesday, 27th January - Parkside v Eagle House
DREW 1-1 (Sven Winkler)
The match was played on an Astro pitch at Surbiton Hockey Club. It was the first match of the season for both teams. We started positively and our midfield were tenacious in their attempt to win the ball. Both sides had early opportunities to score, but the first half ended goal-less. Parkside scored a fantastic goal at the start of the second half; there was nothing our goalkeeper Oscar Turton could have done to prevent it. We went all-out for the equaliser in the last five minutes and had several visits to the Parkside 'D'. In the final minute Sven Winkler rounded off a good move from Daniel Salter to score.
This was an exciting and fast-paced game of hockey. Parkside play hockey for two terms and they are usually the strongest opposition we face, so a draw against them is a good result. Hopefully we can build on this result next Wednesday against Hoe Bridge.
