Eagle House 3rd XI v Cranleigh (home)
Saturday 6th February
Eagle House 1 Cranleigh 4
(Charlie Riddell)
Squad: Robin Vonchek (GK); Tristan Abery (Capt); Shushil Tamang; Charlie Riddell; Ross Yates
Netra Limbu;Noah Walton; Lewis Riddell; Alex Wilkinson;George Arnold-Wallinger; Mika Kenny; Henry Jones
It is rather difficult for this team to benefit from any real continuity as there were 4 changes to the team that battled so well on Wednesday as well as the appearance of the third coach/umpire in as many games. We started brightly and had the better of the early exchanges but Cranleigh quickly found their feet and began to apply pressure. Our defence seemed up to the challenge until we conceded a very soft goal as we stopped playing right in front of our goal in the circle waiting for the whistle to blow for a short corner while Cranleigh played the obvious advantage to score the opening goal. Cranleigh had the better of the rest of the half but were unable to add to their score.
The opening minutes of the second half saw Cranleigh still in the ascendancy until we broke well out of our half and Charlie hammered home a great equaliser. For a time Cranleigh looked rattled by this unexpected turn of events but they regained their composure and began to dominate both territory and possession. Unfortunately we lost Noah who received a painful blow on the foot and in the absence of our most reliable defender, Cranleigh were able to ram home their superiority with 3 goals scored in quick succession. The final scoreline possibly flattered the visitors a little as our boys had played their part in an entertaining game played on grass in good sunny conditions.
Eagle House 3rd XI v Hoe Bridge (home)
Wednesday 3rd February
Eagle House 3 v 3 Hoe Bridge
(Charlie Riddell 2, Lewis Riddell)
Squad: Robin Vonchek (GK); Tristan Abery (Capt); Shushil Tamang; Charlie Riddell; Ross Yates
Netra Limbu; Will Rowlands; Lewis Riddell; Charlie Waters; Austin Larson; Aman Ale; Henry Jones
It was a case of what might have been as a goal scored in last minute by Hoe Bridge, denied the Eagle House 3rd XI a well deserved victory. In spite of three very late changes to the squad, due to injury and illness, the 3rd XI started their match v Hoe Bridge brightly in what were very cold and grey conditions on the Wellington Astro.
The first chance of the match fell to Tristan who found himself unmarked high up the pitch and clean through on the Hoe Bridge goal keeper. A good save denied Eagle House an opening goal and after a scramble in their circle Hoe Bridge managed to clear the ball away from danger. Eagle House continued to dominate the possession in the midfield and it was no surprise when they broke the deadlock after good work again from Tristan and Netra allowed Charlie Riddell to score from the rebound.
Although looking confident it was Hoe Bridge who scored next to equalise at 1-1 and would have been ahead at halftime, but for a fantastic reaction save by Robin who somehow managed to reach a ball destined for the bottom left corner. (HT 1-1)
The second half followed a similar pattern whereby Eagle House took the lead and Hoe Bridge fought back to equalise. A strong and determined run up the left wing by Lewis, gave him space to cross the ball to Charlie who made no mistake in scoring his and the team's second goal. Again Hoe Bridge equalised, but from the restart Eagle House went straight up the other end to get ahead again at 3-2 after a fine finish from Lewis.
With Netra commanding the midfield, showing some nice touches of skill and a solid defensive performance from Robin, Shushil and Charlie Waters the result seemed to be secure. However Hoe Bridge hadn't given up hope and they managed to tie the match up at 3-3 in the final minute with a well taken goal. (FT 3-3)
Coach's player of the match: Netra Limbu
