Wednesday 14th March - Match 6 vs. Lambrook
Result - Eagle House 1 - 0 Lambrook (Scorers - Ben Barnard)
Man of the Match - Michael Gimson
What a fantastic way to finish the 11-a-side season! This was a very good game of Hockey, between two well matches teams!
In truth there were very few clear cut chances for either team, this could also be attributed to the quality of the defending. However, there was some fine build play between the two 25 yard lines. The midfield area was very keenly contested, we just about shaded it in the end. Dominic Atherton, Ben Barnard and Ben Howard were oustanding and worked tirelessly for the team.
Our back four of Theo Talbot, Michael Gimson, Harry Waters (on debut) and Tom Walton were all excellent. We have really improved our distribution distribution and they all used the ball intelligently and effectively. Hal Quinn was a rock as ever! A calming and steadying presence in goal.
Up front we have a great mix of trickery (David Pugh), pace (Harry Rees) and intelligent movement (Brendon Parvess). This blend makes for a difficult propostion for opposition defenders. These 3 caused problems all afternoon.
The defining moment of the match came with 7 minutes remaining. Ben (Barnard) powered through the midfield, beating 3 Lambrook defenders and, despite having his first shot saved, managed to smash in the rebound.
The boys can be extremely proud of how they have performed this season. They have shown great skill, determination and team spirit throughout, which is extremely pleasing. Very well done to you all!

Result - Eagle House 4 - 3 Hall Grove (Scorers - Ben Barnard 2 (2 x PC), Harry Rees (PC), David Pugh)
Man of the Match - Ben Barnard
All the weather disruptions before half term were quickly forgotten as the first game back was a fantastic one for the neutral and a nervy one for any Eagle House supporters.
There was plenty of rustiness around as Hall Grove started sharply and were quickly 1-0 up within the first two minutes. Some last ditch defending by Sven Winkler and Tom Walton, plus a smart save by Hal Quinn kept it to just the single goal difference as we started to build our way into the match. David Pugh and Ben Barnard combined well to win our first penalty corner which was smashed home by Ben to level the score at 1-1.
Our midfield of Dominic Atherton, Ben Howard and Ben Barnard were now starting to dominate the game and it was only a matter of time before we took the lead. Harry Rees got the goal from a penalty corner after he tenaciously followed up an earlier saved effort to make it 2-1. Although Hall Grove were playing with confidence and creating good chances the half finished with us just in the ascendancy.
The second half saw us playing some fantastic attacking hockey and a number of good chances were created, but unfortunately missed. The third goal finally came from another penalty corner when Ben Barnard's sweetly struck hit found the bottom left corner to make it 3-1. To their credit Hall Grove didn't give up and their two talented players started to come into the match and two quick goals brought the score back to 3-3.
The boys were not going to let it slip by and some hard work from Brendon Parvess, David Pugh and Harry Rees up front managed to turn the tide and put us back on the front foot. After a number of close calls David Pugh calmly followed up a saved shot to slip the ball past the agile GK and win the game 4-3 for Eagle House.
There were a number of strong performances, including Theo Talbot and Michael Gimson in defence, but the Man of the Match was deservedly won by Ben Barnard for his two fine goals, his skill in attack and hard work in defence.
A great game with some real quality shown by both sides and a brilliant win for the Eagles!

Wednesday 1st February - Match 2 vs. Hoe Bridge
Result - Hoe Bridge 3 - 0 Eagle House
Man of the Match - Dominic Atherton
The final scoreline in this game was not really a fair reflection of how the boys played this afternoon. Two goals in the final 3 minutes made the result more flattering for the opposition.
In truth it was a rather scrappy game. The freezing cold conditions meant it was not a day condusive to free flowing Hockey. There were large numbers of mistakes made by both teams and the game was large played in midfield.
We generally defended resolutely and battled hard but did not create any clear cut chances to score. We did however win 5 penalty corners in the game and despite looking very dangerous, were unable to convert any. There keeper deserves credit as he made a couple of very fine saves.
The Hoe Bridge finishing on the other hand was clinical. They scored with 3 of the 4 shots they had on target.
Again much to be encourage by and plenty to work. Well done boys!

Wednesday 25th January - Match 1 vs. Parkside
Result - Eagle House 2 - 2 Parkside (Scorers - Dominic Atherton (PC), Brendon Parvess)
Man of the Match - Sven Winkler
An excellent start to the season! There is so much to be encouraged by in this afternoons performance.
Parkside undoutedly began the game the stronger and we were indebted to Hal Quinn in the early stages, who made a a number of smart saves to keep us in the contest. We grew in confidence as the game progressed and began to pass the ball very effectively. Brendon Parvess held the ball up extremely well through out the game, which allowed our strong running midfielders (Dominic Atherton, Ben Howard and Ben Barnard) to storm forward and cause the Parkside defenders considerable problems in the latter stages of the first half and throughout the second period.
We took the lead midway through the the first period with a sweetly struck shot from Dominic from a penalty corner. This gave the boys great belief and we began to dominate. However, Parkside equalised with a wonderful reverse stick strike on the stroke of half time that left Hal with no chance. In truth 1-1 at half time was a fair scoreline.
The second half was a frenetic affair, with both teams creating chances. We looked very dangerous from penalty corners and Parkside equally so on the breakaway. They eventually took the lead with a well take finish. The boys did not let their heads drop and Brendon scored a deserved equaliser from clsoe range after good work from Ben Barnard down the right.
All the boys can be pleased of the contributions they made today. Theo Talbot, Michael Gimson and Tom Walton were resolute in defence. Sven Winkler was outstanding and deservedly won Man of the Match. Harry Rees, David Pugh and Lucas Bamber worked extremely hard for the team and created a great deal going forward.
Well done to you all!
