Match Two
Wednesday 7th May v Cranleigh, at Wellington at 1430
Lost by 50 runs.
Cranleigh all out for 97. Eagle House 47 for 9, in a limited game of 20 overs innings per side.
Following the bad weather of the previous weeks, it was good at last to play some cricket in decent, warm and sunny conditions. Though Eagle House lost this game, hopefully the team would have learnt a loy from the experience and understood where their particular strenghts and weakenness lay.
Cranleigh won the toss and decided to bat first. Though the batting started slowly, the runs started to mount up as time went on. Several fours and one six helped Cranliegh on their way in a good display of controlled and offensive batting. Neverthelss good fielding, with some great catches by the likes of Theo Singh and Robert Trapell, and fantastic bowling by Antonio Marinez-Fresnda ensured that wickets began to fall.
Unfortunately The batting of Eagle House never matched their good bowling and fielding. Wickets fell very easily and the batting offered nothing of substance. There was no deternintion to score runs and the play was half hearted. No one seemed to prepared or able to score any decent runs. A lot more practice in the nets is required at break times to ensure that the batting standard is raised to a satisfactory level.
Cranleigh well deserve their victory and Eagle House have a long way to go and a lot to learn if they are going to make an impact on the cricket square. To improve they need to show some drive and determination and be prepared to work harder in the practices sessions.
