Match 9 - Wednesday, 25th June

3rd XI v Lambrook Haileybury: LOST by 5 wickets

(25 overs) Eagle House 95 all out, Lambrook Haileybury 97 for 5

The match was played on Main Field artificial wicket. Lambrook Haileybury won the toss and decided to field. Except for Kris Cook (25, including 6 successive fours), our batsmen never really got into their stride. We were aided by some wayward bowling and fielding - the extras count was 38 - and we were all out for 95 in the 19th over. We began the second innings positively, with Kevin Akunwa holding a good catch and Joab Phillips making a run-out and victory seemed within our grasp. However, some of the team then lost focus and allowed Lambrook Haileybury back into the game. Some wayward bowling and fielding of our own - the extras count was 38 again - meant that they won in the 16th over. Sam Auger took 2 for 2, Kris took 1 for 14 and George Williams took 1 for 13.

A disappointing way to end the season!

Match 8 - Wednesday, 11th June

3rd XI v Horris Hill: WON by 30 runs

(25 overs) Eagle House 88 all out, Horris Hill 58 all out

The match was played on Main Field grass wicket. Horris Hill won the toss and decided to field. Our batting was much better than in our previous game and we were all out for 88. Richard Bishop batted very well (35, including 7 fours) and there were useful contributions from Alex Heyre (13) and Will Price (12, including 2 fours). We bowled Horris Hill out in the 19th over. Kris Cook took 3 for 8, Alex took 2 for 7 and Huw Braithwaite took 2 for 14. Our star fielders were Will Price (three catches), Max Kirk (two run-outs) and Joab Phillips (one run-out).

This was a much better performance than last week. Horris Hill have won the last two matches against us, so I am very pleased with this result. I hope we remain focused for our final match of the season against Lambrook Haileybury.

Match 7 - Wednesday, 4th June

3rd XI v Yateley Manor: LOST by 6 wickets

(20 overs) Eagle House 28 all out, Yateley Manor 32 for 4

The match was played on an artificial wicket. We won the toss and decided to bat. Our performance was dreadful and we were all out for 28 in the 15th of the 20 overs. None of our batsmen reached double figures and five were out for a duck. There were several mitigating factors: the two and a half weeks since our last match, post-Common Entrance fatigue and the dreadful state of the pitch. Yateley Manor only needed 9 overs to win, although they lost four wickets in the process. Dominic Hill took 3 for 6 and Sam Auger took 1 for 3.

Yateley Manor looked a fairly good side and they deserved to win on the day. After our good performances against Crosfields and Aldro, this result was very disappointing. We need to put it behind us and focus on winning our last two matches, both at home.

Match 6 - Saturday, 17th May

3rd XI v Aldro: DRAW

(20 overs) Eagle House 116 for 4

The match was played on Manor Field artificial wicket. We won the toss and decided to bat. The match was scheduled for 25 overs, but was reduced to 20 overs because of intermittent rain. We batted very well and scored runs quickly. George Williams (29 not out, including 6 fours), Alex Heyre (23, including 4 fours) and Kevin Akunwa (21 not out, including 3 fours) all batted very well. The match was abandoned when it started to rain heavily and the result was declared a draw - what a shame, as we were in a strong position!

Match 5 - Wednesday, 14th May

3rd XI v Crosfields: WON by 7 wickets

(20 overs) Crosfields 94 for 2, Eagle House 97 for 3

The match was played on Manor Field artificial wicket on yet another glorious day. We won the toss and decided to field this time. Crosfields got off to a slow start and we could have taken three early wickets if our fielders had held their catches. We let Crosfields off the hook and they began to score runs quickly. They lost two wickets from catches held by Will Rasmussen and Kevin Akunwa, before their number three and number four batsmen closed out their innings on 94. Because of delays due to lost balls and a drinks break we decided to make the match 20 overs instead of the usual 25. Our best bowler was Will Price (1 for 12). Considering our batting so far this season and needing to score almost five runs an over to win, I was not hopeful at the start of our innings. We lost three early wickets and things looked bleak...then Alex Heyre and Kris Cook came to the crease and proceeded to score boundary after boundary. Aided by some wayward Crosfields bowling, we won the game in the 16th over. Kris scored 38, including 8 fours and Alex scored 20, including 3 fours.

Hopefully this win will inspire us for the rest of the season. Well done!

Match 4 - Saturday, 10th May

3rd XI v Ludgrove: LOST by 7 wickets

(25 overs) Eagle House 54 all out, Ludgrove 56 for 3

The match was played on a grass wicket on another glorious day. We won the toss and decided to bat. The Ludgrove bowlers were quick and accurate, but our batting in the early overs was solid. Dominic Hill (20, including 3 fours) and Will Price (13, including 2 fours) put on more than thirty runs and some of their shot-making was superb. However, once they were both out our batting collapsed and five of our players were out for a duck! Our final total of 54 all out in 22 overs was never going to be enough, but it still took Ludgrove 18 overs to win and we managed to pick up three wickets. Our best bowlers were Dominic (2 for 13) and Sam Auger (1 for 13).

In spite of our three defeats I am pleased with the positive attitude of the team and our cricketing skills are improving all the time.

Match 3 - Wednesday, 7th May

3rd XI v Cranleigh: LOST by 8 wickets

(25 overs) Eagle House 73 all out, Cranleigh 74 for 2

The match was played on a grass wicket in glorious weather. Cranleigh won the toss and decided to field. We began poorly, losing four quick wickets and it seemed that a respectable score was beyond us. The situation changed when Huw Braithwaite came to the crease. He quickly scored 20, including a six and 3 fours, before being bowled. Kris Cook also batted well (17, including 2 fours) and we were finally all out for 73. This time four of our players were out for a duck! As in the last match, it only took Cranleigh 19 overs to win the game, largely due to an excellent innings of 40 from one of their openers. Our best bowlers were Huw (1 for 3) and Sam Auger (1 for 11).

After two matches our best eleven is beginning to take shape and I am encouraged by our bowling. However, we have to work on our batting in the nets and in practice games and make sure that we are chasing every run possible.

Match 2 - Wednesday, 30th April

3rd XI v Parkside: CANCELLED

Match 1 - Saturday, 26th April

3rd XI v Caldicott: LOST by 4 wickets

(25 overs) Eagle House 70 for 9, Caldicott 74 for 6

The match was played on an artificial wicket. Caldicott won the toss and decided to field. The out-field was slow and it took us some time to get going. Caldicott bowled with a good line and length and they were quite agile in the field. Our best batsmen were Will Price (21, including 3 fours) and Dominic Hill (14, including 2 fours), but unfortunately six of our players were out for a duck! At the end of the allotted 25 overs we were 70 for 9, leaving Caldicott with a very achievable run rate of less than three an over. Caldicott began quite briskly, but two wickets in successive overs from Kris Cook unsettled them and their run rate dropped to below the necessary level. When Will Rasmussen held two excellent catches the match swung in our favour, only for some wayward bowling and mis-fielding to let Caldicott off the hook. They lost two more wickets before winning the game in the 19th over. Our best bowlers were Alex Heyre (3 for 11, with two wickets in one over) and Kris (2 for 10).
