Thursday evening blog:

The sun shone, the surf was up, and we all had a fantastic day at the
beach. In the morning groups 1 and 2 had stunt kites and beach games,
while groups 3 and 4 had body boarding. Mr Taylor even had time to
give a quick Biology lesson by pointing out some jellyfish washed up
on the beach. We returned to the centre for lunch and a change of
wetsuits and then returned to the beach, where all four groups were in
the water - two groups body boarding and two groups surfing. We
returned to the centre and after dinner the children showed off their
dance moves at the outdoor disco. Great fun was had by all, and it is
the sign of a successful trip that the children don't want to leave!

Tomorrow morning we are at the centre doing high ropes, initiative
exercises, survivor and the wet challenge course. We are leaving the
centre after lunch and hope to be back at school at 6pm, traffic
permitting. See you then!

Wednesday evening blog:

After a good night's sleep unbroken by my (now forgotten) ghost story,
we spent the morning at the centre. The highlight for groups 1 and 2
was the wet challenge course where the idea was to get as wet and
muddy as possible, and the winners of the 'mucky prize' were Tilda
Kneen
and Oliver Crosby. The other activities this morning were
orienteering, shooting and survivor.

After lunch we picked up our wetsuits and boarded the coach for our
journey to the beach at Westward Ho! Groups 1 and 2 went surfing with
Mrs Creighton and they had a fantastic time. Harry Waters won the
'Kelly Slater award' for riding the longest wave. Groups 3 and 4 had
speed sailing (which proved quite difficult because of the strong
wind) and stunt kites. I gave a Geography lesson on the beach - in
other words I pointed out Lundy Island, as Ben Howard is demonstrating
in the photo below. Then we all ate ice cream and returned to the
centre.

The entertainment this evening was Robot Wars, which was enjoyed by
all. We have a whole day at the beach tomorrow and then the children
have a disco in the evening.

Tuesday evening blog:

Due to strong winds our beach sessions today were postponed until
Thursday, so we had a busy day based at the centre. Groups 1 and 2
have done orienteering, rifle shooting, fencing and aeroball. Groups 3
and 4 have done fencing, aeroball, high ropes and initiative
exercises. The children have really enjoyed the activities so far and
they have responded well to new challenges. It is good to see new
friendship groups being made. After dinner we joined another school
for a camp fire (see photo below) where songs were sung, marshmallows were toasted,
and I told my customary ghost story about Beam House - hopefully the
children will get some sleep tonight!

Tomorrow we are at the centre in the morning and then we are off to
the beach for surfing, body boarding and a geography lesson!

Monday evening blog:

We arrived at Beam House at 3.30pm. After our welcome talk and
unpacking it was time to explore the centre and then dinner. Our
evening entertainment was 'wacky games', and the children's excitement
was not at all dampened by the wet weather. As I write this blog
everyone is fast asleep. Tomorrow morning we are all based at the
centre and in the afternoon we are heading off to the beach for some
surfing...
