Year 4 Golden Eagle Week 2011

Wednesday

We woke up in dribs and drabs, and headed in for breakfast – yummy croissants, toast, fruit juice and cereal and coffee with extra caffeine for the adults! Quickly we brushed our teeth and then off we went for our morning activities. We started off in good blustery (still) sunshine on the high ropes, log climbing and mountain boards. Unfortunately it started raining, sending the adults scuttling in for their waterproofs and covers for their cameras, which do not work that well with drops of rain on the lens. (More apologies to those who were missed out). The children followed in for a moment to put on their own waterproofs and then continued to build towers of crates, again another exercise to build up team work.

Lunch (pasta with carbonara or spicy tomato sauce) follow by fruit, jelly or yoghurts and then the heavens opened – apparently it was also raining in Wokingham. And it rained. And it rained. And we stayed out on the Mountain boards, high wire, and the Jump of Faith. And then the clouds parted and the sea of bright sunshine shone through upon us once more. We hung the children out to dry in the warm breeze, and continued. The afternoon flew by as did most of the children as they jumped from the top of twenty foot pole to grab at a bar in mid air. Most made it; Mr Jenkins did not, but he did try, and that is the whole point of these activities.

We iced our cakes for M and B before we lit the bbq for supper, or at least to cook the food for supper on and fruit kebabs with a chocholate mountain - which we seemed to wear rather than eat.

It is a pleasant evening at the moment.

Tomorrow morning we head back after breakfast and after we have cleaned our rooms, the dining room and the kitchen. Pick up is at 1630, don’t forget, and don’t forget to bring in your NAMED memory stick.

There are unfortunately 679 photographs to look through, some are lovely, some are good photographs and many are not so good for various reasons of incompetence. The varying light conditions caused all sorts of problems and then the rain did not help much either. We hope you at least get a taste of what the couple of days was about. The best way to view is, with a large glass of water or similar, to go through on a computer with your son or daughter as they explain what happened and what they did , and how they did it, and what so and so did..... Then keep all the ones you like. Enjoy!

Day Two

Tuesday pm

Homemade pizzas were a great success at the end of a long day. We then went outside and organised lots of different games amongst ourselves in the evening sunshine (remember that?). It was lovely playing and running around before a warm shower and some ‘down’ time. Mrs P-W read us a story and then we read our own books quietly. Lights out was at nine o’clock and superbly we were all asleep (or pretending very well) within fifteen minutes.

Day One

The Green Perils collected us from pick up and a convoy set off north. Three cars full of bags and two minibuses full of children. When we arrived,

we unloaded our bags into our rooms before heading out for a bit of climbing and abseiling, some work on the low ropes and some archery.

Lunch was devoured with enthusiasm. The Purple Group helped tidy away, wash up, wipe the tables and sweep the floor with the minimum of

fuss and I wonder if the other groups will do as well tomorrow. Then it was out again for Kiwi Flying, .177 air rifle shooting and exercises to develop

team work. It was blustery outside, but warm out of the wind.

This evening, we are making our own pizzas with a selection of healthy toppings – promise! Mrs Fagan will cook them while we go out to run around

playing badminton, cricket, rounders or just chilling out.

Below are a selection of photographs – if you bring in a NAMED  2gb memory stick on Thursday

evening or Friday morning all the photographs will be put on it for you to work through.
